Unfortunately, running right and jumping on things can only keep a gamer entertained for so long.
That's the thing though. When was the last time they actualy done that without the added need for gimmicks? Every game that involves Sonic always seems like it has to try something NEW when it was the old school playing style that got people happy in the first place. Since they have started adding this extra stuff in it's weighed the Sonic name down too much.
I mean, ok. Let's take a look at this game. "Hedgehog Engine". This is supposed to be the big one (again). They're supposed to bring Sonic back to his roots and his roots are running from A to B, collect rings and beat up a boss. It worked back in the 90's, the company may have finally listened to the fans asking for the old school gameplay to return so they've built this engine in light of this fact. Ok. Great. That sounds like a good plan. Stick with it Sega, that engine could pay off. But no, wait, hold on. They've gone and done it again by breaking up the usual gameplay style in favor of having Sonic turn into a Werewolf which not only slows him down but changes his style of gameplay completely. Wow. There they go and balls it up again. Can't they just leave Sonic alone and let the poor bastard run without slapping something else on him?
The whole Werewolf thing still ain't going down well with me, i'm afraid. Too out of character and it could potentialy break up the whole point of the 'Hedgehog Engine' and what it's supposed to do for Sonic in the first place.
Of course, that's just my own opinion but i've been hearing a lot of other people seem to share similar views on this.
Still, i'm going to play it but i'm really not looking forwrd to this game.
