NEW SONIC UNLEASHED GAMEPLAY!!!
http://www.ps3fanboy.com/2008/06/18/sonic-...eashed-trailer/

This new Sonic Unleashed gameplay trailer looks... awesome. It has all the makings of a 90s great Sonic game -- speed, color and more speed. The stage design is classic Sonic and the visuals look gorgeous. Can this be the Sonic game to revitalize the aging franchise? After the glitches and control problems with Sega's last attempt on the PS3, did we run out of optimism for the beloved blue video game icon? We're keeping our fingers crossed.

Oh my goodness~ my need to buy a Wii just went up tenfold. That looks like a flabbergastingly excellent game of pressing right and occasionally pressing the A button... My favourite kind of game ohyesh. *_*

I just really hope they don't screw it up with a terrible plotline... oh, and bad controls. Sonic games are usually very good with intuitive controls though - it's just the camera angles that screw things up. XD Last thing you want is scrabbling for buttons interrupting that scrummy looking gameflow. <3

Fun game looks fun. :3

But it kinda looks like the player doesn't really have to do much except go forward. Hopefully they'll change that.

I wonder when they'll release a boss video. =O

Everyones getting hyped over this game and someone even when as far to scream "Best Sonic game ever!" I stay by the notion that Sega will screw this up in a way that will make even God blow chunks.

When the game is released. =3

according to moderately reliable sources, something late 2008 that's as specific as I can get...

I hope I didn't already say this on a previous page but I'm beginning to feel that way too. I mean, they show us this excellent video, three now(i think), and everyone is so hyped but it seems many have forgotten about the Werehodge already. It's hard to say whether this will be good or not when SEGA is taking such a huge risk. They don't show us the Werehodge gameplay and it's kinda puts you off.

By the way. I want to share something with you all. A chart that is so true it's scary:

Yeah, that chart pretty much sums up why I completely abandoned the Sonic fandom once NiGHTS came around. I'd rather pledge allegiance to a series that takes years to release rather than a series that disappoints every year. With the exception of Secret Rings, I haven't been satisfied since Sonic Adventure 2...which was the time I actually "joined" the fandom.

I mean, that's just one reason. There's also the fact that the fanbase, in general, are in this one giant heaping, steamy, sweating, shitty pile of complaining over games, characters, character couplings, bad voice actors, unused characters, new characters, how the older games are better and always be better...there's also the halfassed fancharacters, popular h0 fancharacters, people who claim to be dating/married to characters, and SonicPassion...*shudder*.

Bitter?

You bet.

I don't blame you at all Murasaki. Fandoms ruin a lot of things for a lot of people. That's why I'm glad this place is the way it is. I have yet to see any out of control nonsense yet. I'm not sure how the fans at DeviantART are about NiGHTS but I do know this place keeps it frosty. It hurts me as an old school Sonic fan to see how it is nowadays though. All of the bickering, hatred, and porn and is just a shame to witness. I still have hope in almost all Sonic games that are shown but I have learned that SEGA ain't the way she used to be and therefore Sonic will probably never be the same again. I look at this game and go "It's looking good so far" but dammit I know something's going to give reviewers and even players a reason to be overwhelmingly disappointed.

I think it has a lot to do with unrealistic expectations, made by the developers and then adapted by the fans. I remember when they were promising the realtime sun/moon phases in Sonic 06...and ended up having that idea scrapped. When you think about it, there's no real reason why that kind of thing should be scrapped, other than time constraints. What's with these time constraints anyway? They're losing more money by releasing early than they would if they had reasonable timelines.

If I remember correctly, all of my favourite games as of late have been delayed from their previously scheduled release at least once...well, you know, NiGHTS excluded, but you get my message.

Yeah, I get what your saying. Whoever is in charge of these projects should be fired or at least be hit with a "get real" pipe or something. I can't remember the day/night thing but I do remember one video where they were talking about how things had been slowed down so they could be examined easier. Come to find out the game was that slow lol

iLLViLLAiN, your chart describes it perfectly.

I think it has a lot to do with unrealistic expectations, made by the developers and then adapted by the fans.

Not just the fans - the one big downside with my fave gaming magazine is that whenever they're reviewing a Sonic Team game, you can expect bashing and talk about how it's not as good as before. You'd think that by now they (and everyone else) would've learned not to have such big expectations...

What's with these time constraints anyway? They're losing more money by releasing early than they would if they had reasonable timelines.

I'm wondering that too, especially since it seems that all of their later games could've been good if they'd gotten enough time (read: "more than one-two years").

Oh, God, is that chart accurate!
But you know what? If they announce a Chao Garden (And they have it in the Wii version), and don't have it so you're CONSTANTLY running back to it like the My Dream thing, I will be happy, even if the rest of the game is an unplayable pile of sh*t.
Chao = Heart-Attack (In a good way) Happy. You can observe my many happy spasms in the Chronicles topic when they announced Chao would have their own Tamagotchi-like Chao Garden.

That chart may be accurate, but it also haunts the dreams of optimists everywhere! Take it away! Take it away! I am so glad that the Wii version is being helped/co-developed by Dimps, the makers of the Sonic Advance and Rush games. They are probably telling Sonic Team everything about how to make this game better. I just hope that the junior people at Sonic Team don't get all proud and reject the advice of a (let's be honest) better developer.

But I haven't lost perspective. I always assume that games are going to disappoint me. Especially ones that look awesome.

just want to remind you all that the Wii version is going to be different in ways. Graphically inferior for one. It also has changed level designs, but does seem to keep the same overall feel.
Go to gonintendo and check out the scans of Wii version over there, although the quality of the scans is pretty crappy.

Lets not forget that there will be less levels as well.....AND it won't be using the Hedgehog engine that has been in the works for 3 years. (Which makes no sense to me since they were working on other Sonic games at that time...)

....why the hell did I buy a Wii again?

Every time I see a new post on this topic I expect it to say something along the lines of
OMG I CAN'T BELIEVE SEGA DID THIS TO US!!!! SEGA HAS OFFICIALLY KILLED SONIC!!!
Then again this might be considered a late observation...
sorry if ya think I'm being too negative... I'm jus lookin at what I see... BUT that doesn't mean this game will flop...
hopefully...

I thought that kinda already happend when an article in Nintendo Power stated that "It's not about 'going back.' I'd put it as 'taking lessons from the past.'" Which kinda sounds like they are not going back to Sonic roots.

As soon as I heard about Shadow the hedgehog Sonic fans I knew were getting very hyped up... I was the only one, as far as I knew, who knew it was gonna be god-awful... is there really so many buyers of these games that it keeps Sega in the green in terms of money? Seriously!

Your not the only one that thought it was going to be awful. (Only reason I had it was because it was a gift.) Yet the game made tons of money for all the wrong reasons. Its about appearance I guess....

I don't know why others get them but I still get them because I need to judge for myself if the game is good or not. Or maybe I am board....

Well the funny thing is that this makes the Sonic RPG trailer look a whole lot better now.....ehehe..(I thought that trailer sucked too.)

As for buying the game, yeah see there we go. However I think I will be smart and cheap about it and wait till its $30-$20. Actually if I get the PS2 version then it shouldn't take that long--ew no! No more Sonic games on the PS2. Loading time sucks.

Oh come now, it wasn't that bad. Sure, it was bizzare and utter cheese and 90s b-movie/cloverfield style, but I dunno, I sorta liked it.

Just because they're trying something different again isn't necessarily a bad thing, it's gonna take them time to find a new niche. Unfortunately, running right and jumping on things can only keep a gamer entertained for so long.

That's the thing though. When was the last time they actualy done that without the added need for gimmicks? Every game that involves Sonic always seems like it has to try something NEW when it was the old school playing style that got people happy in the first place. Since they have started adding this extra stuff in it's weighed the Sonic name down too much.
I mean, ok. Let's take a look at this game. "Hedgehog Engine". This is supposed to be the big one (again). They're supposed to bring Sonic back to his roots and his roots are running from A to B, collect rings and beat up a boss. It worked back in the 90's, the company may have finally listened to the fans asking for the old school gameplay to return so they've built this engine in light of this fact. Ok. Great. That sounds like a good plan. Stick with it Sega, that engine could pay off. But no, wait, hold on. They've gone and done it again by breaking up the usual gameplay style in favor of having Sonic turn into a Werewolf which not only slows him down but changes his style of gameplay completely. Wow. There they go and balls it up again. Can't they just leave Sonic alone and let the poor bastard run without slapping something else on him?

The whole Werewolf thing still ain't going down well with me, i'm afraid. Too out of character and it could potentialy break up the whole point of the 'Hedgehog Engine' and what it's supposed to do for Sonic in the first place.

Of course, that's just my own opinion but i've been hearing a lot of other people seem to share similar views on this.

Still, i'm going to play it but i'm really not looking forwrd to this game.

Yeah, everyone has their own opinion. It seems to be a marmite divide on this game at the moment.

I wasn't snapping at those who don't like the look of it, if it seemed like that, I'm just someone who prefers to see people wait until they've played it to judge. Which I intend to do, since I wanna know how wolfy plays before I judge him on more than his appearance and concept. If my dreams are right, I'll enjoy playing as him, but some people may not.

We'll know come the end of the year, no doubt.

Totally understandable, Fen. But, you gotta admit that the Sonic fanbase does get hard-done a lot. It get's to a stage where you just expect it to all go to hell upon release. I mean when we all saw Sonic '06 we all thought that was gonna be the big one that would bring back the glory of Sonic's name. It done the complete opposite. After that, my faith in Sega to get Sonic right has been a little tiring.

As i said, i'll still give a try.

hey, fair enough mate, it's all I ever ask is that people give it a chance XD

Yeah, we do get screwed over a bit, because Sega knows they'll keep making money off of Sonic. But at least they're trying different things now in some sort of effort to please the fans.

(I... sorta liked S06 anyway >_>)

I forgot that this will be fore the PS2 thanks for the reminder I'll save some money!

Just remember that there will be less levels on the PS2 and Wii version. However that my be a blessing.

The reason they keep doing something new is because you can't just keep playing old school and expect everyone to be happy with it. You can't do the same old thing all the time. Its generally about new things. There are some Sonic fans that only want retro game play and there are those that want something new. You can't please them all. Believe it or not, there are those that like the treasure hunting or the shooting, and all the other crap Sega has ever thrown at us. Also since Dimps is working on the levels, it won't be that much at Sonic's roots. (Its going to be like the Sonic Advanced or Rush levels)

I don't know about this Hedgehog engine anymore. One person keeps trying to put into my head that its nothing more than a upgrade of the Sonic 2006 engine or the time they have spent on this new engine is a lie. I hope this theory is wrong. I really do.

I could have sworn that it was already mentioned that the game is not actually going back to its roots anyway. Its just trying to change things up from what it has done in the past.

All I know is that its a he say, she say, they say, nor say situation and I don't care what Sega says anymore! They always say they are going back to Sonic's roots and they don't. I am going to try this game and judge it for myself since nothing they say about Sonic seems to be right anymore.

I thought the trailer was pretty good, right up until the actual 'Sonic Unleashed' Logo came up, and the guy just kept talking. If they had stopped him when the logo came up, it would have been better. Instead, he just ruined it.

I dunno. I guess I just like over-the-top cliche cheesy trailers.

Eh... kinda hate to state this observation I've had, but don't the camera angle changes kinda remind you of JoD's? 0-0;;; I'm not at all a game expert, so I know this might not be unusual, but I'm worried that JoD might've been the testing ground for the Hedgehog Engine (and I also understand that this might be a bit of a leap in claim, again because I don't really know a lot about games and, therefore, what makes an engine an engine).

Forgive my stupidity if this is, indeed, silly. XD
