Let the cycle begin!

If this game does turn out to be what Sgea claims it to be, I'm curious if they're going to treat it like a new game entirely or make it as a sort of tribute to the Genesis days sort of in the same vein of what Bionic Commando Rearmed did for the original Nes game. I think a lot of the presentational choices made will hinge on this choice. The fan in me actually hopes they go the tribute route.

What about Sonic Labyrinth? I always figured that to be the worst.... Though I guess since it is a Spin Off it doesn't count...

I still think Sonic '06 is worse. Yes, if I had to choose to play one of those games I would choose Sonic Labyrinth. '06 is just that bad.

Or like what Capcom did for Megaman?

Yeah, I see your point. I hope this isn't just some lame Genesis Trib.
I'd rather it be a new-old era thing...

In a way, i'm glad. I did like the design for those level pieces but i did feel they were a little too abstract for a 'green hill-esque' level. Being honest, they seemed more in place for a NiGHTS game, lol.... ...

..now there's an interesting thought. Sonic levels getting a NiGHTS style make over. Sonic is a dreamer who meets NiGHTS and all the levels are old Sonic levels all warped and dreamscapey. That would totally be an interesting crossover. Sonic & NiGHTS.

Sorry. I was going somewhere there. My bad. XD;;

I'm glad it's fake. The "Needlemouse" being used offically in that manner doesn't sit right with me. It sound like some sort of derranged science experiment.

DiGi- That's a really good idea. I've been thinking for a while about if Sonic into Dreams was a full Sonic overlay of NiGHTS. Imagine running up to the Master Emerald as Sonic to become Super Sonic (NiGHTS). As you fly, you need to collect rings to get Chaos Emeralds (Ideya), and fly through large rings to keep your power. ;)

I was thinking Rearmed myself when I thought about a 3D old school Sonic game, even if my wishful thinking gets the best of me for more opportunity to do more than what Sonic did in older games. I do really like him having an assortment of attacks like in SSBB the SA series or Sonic Battle, thought it worked for him  The sound track for Rearmed is BEAST lol.

In a way, i'm glad. I did like the design for those level pieces but i did feel they were a little too abstract for a 'green hill-esque' level. Being honest, they seemed more in place for a NiGHTS game, lol.... ...

They are NiGHTSesque and the game might even play like NiD/JOD sidescrolling on a track yet in a completely 3d world, I am really excited to see the new zones.

except maybe "strange, isn't it!"
on an unrelated note, i'm likin how the forums have suddenly sprung to full life again. if, at the end of the day, this game is pathetic, we can still be thankful to it for giving us something good to talk about and be excited for. and Sonic and sega all stars racing!

and back on track, usually with sega when they release a new sonic game, they like to show all the highlights at announcement to get us interested, like movies do in their TV adverts. but this gives us nothing really. is that not like NiD, that during development wasnt shown much? and i have a feeling that maybe, just maybe, we all like NiD! maybe we'll like this as much? i dunno, just spitballin and such here, but well, it's not like we can do anything else, there's nothing on the trailer to bloody analyse and talk about!

Saw some theories about how the Sonic insignia is not actually Sonic, which blows my mind because the blue ball wizzing around to classic sounds sure sounds and looks like Sonic to me. XD

wait a second, if they're using the old sonic logo on the trailer, does that mean it'll be old sonic on the game, rather than modern sonic? although while sonic's spindashin about on that video, he's glowing like he does on unleashed. maybe they've fused the two or something.

and lol, featuring 6 all new characters! ^_^

oh that is AWESOME! XD See, it works, doesn't it? The blue next to the purple, why wouldn't they make a brilliant crossover? And you know what would also benefit from a game like this? It would SELL and get NiGHTS some more fans because as long as it's got Sonic in the title it will fly off the shelves! ^_^ .....(the more i joke about this crossover the more it sounds like it's making sense).

Probably my favorite title screen joke would be this one:

XD hahahaaha! That actually made me laugh out loud. Priceless!

Contrary to oh-so-popular belief, the old school games were platformers, they put emphasis on platforming and exploring your environment. The 3d games are like, here's a level, get from this point to this point as fast as possible.

I wish people would get past the word "Sonic" and associating it with the gameplay, like speed is the only aspect to the series. The reason the 3d games were so terrible isn't because they were 3d, it's because they had linear unimaginative level design and the focus was primarily on getting to the finish line. That's never been fun, and it never will be.

And yes, you can ruin a 2d game in the same manner. Side scrolling doesn't dictate how the game is played. It could simply be another shallow get-to-the-finish-line failure of a game.

But, y'know... Plan for the worst, hope for the best. Maybe developers will actually play the old games as reference this time around and stop assuming Sonic "just isn't fast enough".

I love how we're all excited about a trailer that shows us nothing. The Sega chourus is great, but what on Earth is wrong with Sonic on his emblem? He looks as if he was scalped!

@Bret- Yes! You win the realistic observation prize. Sonic should not be slowed down to OoT Adult Link levels (He was like a freaking snail without Epona!), but exploration is an important element to balance the (rather gimmicky) speed.

@bret: Amen!! :lol:

Holy crap, Sonic fans who are in agreement! Soon a cure for cancer will be found, world hunger stopped, clowns and nuns will get along, etc, etc.

Of course, I'm not saying they should make the games any slower, I'm saying playing a faster character shouldn't be conductive of a "race-against-time" style of gameplay. You'd think that after Mario64 set the standards, Sonic Team would just suck it up and follow suit, but with Sonic-like physics and speed and in an obstacle laden environment.

I'm actually disappointed the new game will be a sidescroller. I was hoping they'd just fix all the obvious (and easily fixable) problems with the 3d ones and move on.

Yeah, I'm a pretty open-minded Sonic fangirl. (Yes I said fangirl, be afraid, be very afraid...) :P
I'm actually happy that this is a side-scroller, but I can see what you mean. I hope they don't just give up on 3D Sonic games either. They just need to play games like Sonic Adventure and see what made them so good.

Am I the only person who wants to see this as a Genesis homage? Too many utterly bizarre events have plagued recent Sonic, so it might be nice to have the series "reboot" itself. If Sonic could start anew with just the major improvements from past games, like the spin dash and the homing attack, it could be a turn in the right direction.

Ah, good to see that Sonic is in 2D again. HOPEFULLY SEGA doesn't screw anything up. *glares at Shadow The Disaster game* I'm also glad that they're naming a project after a prototype. Believe it or not, Sonic's original name, and it's still his codename, is Mr. Needlemouse.

But is it just me, or does the title screen look like this? I didn't make that pic, btw.

I hope they have certain characters as unlockables, such as Metal Sonic and stuff. Also, maybe they could add Cream and Cheese as unlockables as well, they need to make more appearances in the games, IMO.

I am a huge Metal Sonic fan, so I'll be WAY happy if he's in this. Really, he's about the only villain I can tolerate anymore. Unleashed put some of my faith back in Dr. R, but Metal Sonic should've been in that one, too. That would've been an EPIC battle.

Heck, he hasn't been a boss (as himself) since CD, has he? Just cameos and multiplayer.

Dreadknux posted this on Twitter and i can't agree more. The music for this game needs to be done by this artist -
She - Music
She - Supersonic
She - Memories
She - Kicks

Either that or Tryezz, because Tyrezz makes it funky -
Tryezz - Sonics Poppin Groove

If they're choosing to go back to the old style of gameplay then bring back the old style of music. No offence but i'm tired of the all poppy rock stuff. I remember back when i would just go in to school humming Ice Cap Zone or Green Hill Zone and everybody else knew what it was. They need those catchy tunes back and either of these artists are amazing at making catchy tunes.

You're right on that DiGi. The tracks used to be hella funky. I mean, I ain't gonna hate on the newer tracks or anything like that but they ain't as memorable as the old school Genesis tracks or even the Dreamcast era games.

And damn that guy Tryezz knows how to move your body with his tracks.

Nice beats, I definitely love SEGA when it comes to music production (creamed when Hideki Naganuma did the music for Sonic Rush), these suite a revitalized Sonic game perfect! all hail the 00ntz.
