What would you want in a new NiGHTS game?

Unrelated thought- In general I feel like it'd be a nice touch if whenever you're running out of time the dreamworld starts to lose color.
Also I had another kind of idea too; what if a NiGHTS game had a sort of Special Stage? I suppose it would have to involve acquiring a prize of some sort, either a special ability* or an extra. Achievements/trophies would be welcome in a new game ( for example, doing a "Dreamy!!!" on the Ribbon would be an obvious one).
* Idea for a new move- Drill Burst? Sort of acts like the Rocket Persona combined with Sonic's Boost in Unleashed.

The general feeling that I've gotten from people who dislike JoD is that it's too different from the original, and they'd rather have something more along the lines of the Japanese NiD remake. I don't think that having the same sort of ending would be a problem.
Conversely, a trip through a terrifying nightmare would be a perfect tension-builder before Wizeman's reveal, rather than the final party in Nightopia that we see in the cities.
That's what I'd think too, though I owe it to JoD's hype for getting me interested in NiGHTS, I think people don't like just how different it is. I played the original NiD, Christmas Version, and obviously JoD, and they are pretty different.
Maybe a blend of the two with some different touches might satisfy everyone. A surprise ending with a change people are worried about, and having the Ideya system back, but with some twists. I think it'd be pretty fun like that. Any hopefully the Wizeman fight would be a bit more epic than easy.

I would like to see an remake of NID with new levels, endings, and I wish to have de chance to change NiGHTS outfit easily. Or maybe JoD-2 (in fact, I prefer NID, but JoD is a great game)

Section 1: NiGHTS: Into Dreams remake possibilities
a) Sony PSP: This would be pretty much as easy as port-and-localize. It wouldn't be hard at all for the folks working on Sony-stuff to port the code from PS2-to-PSP (as has been done with COUNTLESS other ports already but this is one I would be HIGHLY interested in) and then localize the language to whatever your preference is (mine would be English). It seems to be one of the less-graphics-intensive PS2 games, and wouldn't suffer in the port to the PSP since you'd basically be using a simple control-scheme: d-pad or the analog-nub for controls, buttons for dashing, triggers for stunts. It wouldn't feel like it was made for a different system, and the wide-screen would be great for seeing farther into the field of play.
B) iPhone/iPod Touch: another semi-natural porting, though seeing as how many games have been butchered by lack-luster control implementation of the device's accelerometers (position sensors), I'd hesitate to make this before the PSP port. Using your finger to guide NiGHTS would be easiest, though the tilt-sensors could potentially work, and the platform has the graphics potential to make it look decent. I have no idea how tricks would work, though, nor dashing.
c) Nintendo DS: This could also potentially be a DSi-ware thing. Using stylus to guide NiGHTS and have the ability to switch left-hand and right-hand control schemes: if right-handed, have directional buttons for tricks and the L-trigger for dashing, if left-handed, have the regular buttons for tricks and the R-trigger for dashing. Top-screen for scores, time, etc., maybe also showing Nightopian happiness and other stats. Bundle some NiGHTS-related minigames for sure. DSi-ware could allow downloadable extras like NEW LEVELS and so-on.
d) 360 Live/PS3 Store release: logical release of PS2-port. Easy and would probably make a good bit of cash. Could also do this with JoD to improve framerates/visuals and CONTROLS.
New ideas:
a) Project NATAL: yeah, this would be pretty cool to do. Could be implemented in many ways: have NiGHTS controlled similar to the eye-toy style NiGHTS level, or even have NiGHTS controlled with your hand.
B) NiGHTS: Brethren Story: prequel to NiD showing the creation of NiGHTS and Reala by Wizeman and how NiGHTS came to rebel. Think of a story of redemption similar to FF4 except on a much less epic scale. Could flow right into an NiD remake as well.
c) projcets as listed above but used for new game: yeah, I'm getting lazy now and am a little tired of typing at the moment, lol.
So, there you have my input, for what it's worth. In a new game, I'd want to see the characters fleshed out a good bit more, experimentation with a dreams ability to morph and change based on user action and desire, and some more appealing story-lines! COME ON, MAKE US RELATE TO THE CHARACTERS! Well, besides how DiGi relates to wanting to be Will's Dad OH SNAP I WENT THERE.

If I may point to some theories...B) NiGHTS: Brethren Story: prequel to NiD showing the creation of NiGHTS and Reala by Wizeman and how NiGHTS came to rebel. Think of a story of redemption similar to FF4 except on a much less epic scale. Could flow right into an NiD remake as well.
Check "Theory 4: NiGHTS' Betrayal" (and update) and the "JoD Before NiD Theories" 1 and 2. There's evidence from official, never-made-it-in dialogue that supports that NiGHTS might've rebelled to save Nightopia, which makes sense since he/she is always exploring them (freedom and all) up to the point of leaving behind Visitors. Not to mention the presence of hovercars in NiD and regular ones in JoD. Then again it's also speculated that there is no timeline and thus it falls into a "Zelda timeline theory" -like setting. (Nintendo says there is no timeline for the LoZ series yet fans still find evidence to piece the games in whatever order they see fit.)

And I would love to see "I'm not evil I just have issues" NiGHTS. I so got used to see NiGHTS as a knightly, yet mischievous prankster-trickster spirit - he's a maren after all. JoD's image... is much more different from that. The story of NiGHTS rebellion, why not? But I'm too afraid that developers would have a story that is different from what community have already built...
Since I'm speaking about NiGHTS character, I'd say that I don't really like his voice because it sounds too feminine. Julissa did a good job bringing out NiGHTS character, but he just sounds too feminine for me, and I can't help it! Can we pleasepleaseplease have something more androgynous?
I'm cool with dreamers having issues like illness or bullying. It's not a must, but I think it's challenging to have something more dramatic, because you too have to think about the problem taht particular dreamer has. Saturn game has a good, solid flow - dreamers needed to revise their self-esteem to do what they wanted to, and ultimately succeed as they overcame their fears. In JoD, beside doing what they liked, they also had parent issues - it's nice, it's more complex, it has more to relate to. But if dreamers' problems become more complex, they would need much more storyline, and cutscenes and stuff...
My Dream you are able to customize - yes. I would like a chaogarden in NiGHTS style. And what if marens could actually work as animals or chao drivers, so you can have more control over breeding? That makes sense - say, if marens actually get into My Dream via paraloop, it's like you take some negative aspect, strip it off its badness and use the remaining energy to make or do whatever you need to.
And some Pian-Dreamer minigames would be fun and relaxing, too...
New dreamscapes - yes. I feel that JoD more or less copied themes of NiD. A beach level - check, an Alps level - check, a forest city level - check, a park level - check... Crystal Castle and Delight City are more original, but still, certainly there are more themes that just that? Maybe a dreamer is shy and a book worm, so, say, a forest that is a library? Fish flying in the air? Or a dreamscape that is made of clouds?
I think I'd be cool with anything, as long as it has more mischievous and androgynous NiGHTS and dreamscape you are able to explore as a kid. And bring the Alarm Egg back, it's fun to run away from!
long post is so long... I'm sorry

Idea: Fan music. Capcom did it for HD Remix. Do it, Sega. Primary music sources would be NiD.com and OC Remix, no doubt. We're the Shoryuken.com of NiGHTS, after all.
^^^^ THIS!!! Considering how the selection of OCReMix for the soundtrack work was due to a Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo project having already been made, it's definitely possible for Sega with a NiGHTS game if it is a remake of the original, or somehow incorporates levels/entities from the original.
From my understanding (basically, what I remember from the OCR panel back at MAG when they were talking about this) is that the OCR project Blood on the Asphalt was released, and then when Capcom started making the HD Remix version of SSF2T, they contacted the project director there and asked if they wanted to rework the remix project and then have it be the soundtrack to the new game. Big differences between the original project and the one that was the soundtrack to HD Remix, but I think that's the long-and-short of it. Oh, what a dream...
Anyways, pulling back to reality, DARiA, you've got some really neat ideas too! Maybe the story itself could incorporate elements that make the player question whether or not NiGHTS is actually an entity or something created as a defense mechanism in the person's own head to cope with severe mental stress and difficulties. Not saying definitively one way or the other, just thought it'd be a cool thing to have it be plausible to believe one way or the other, and in the end leaving it up to the player to decide.

I never thought of that =D And I think that's a great idea! It may lead to some misunderstandings, tho, like people who played JoD now claim that NiGHTS is definitely female, but the idea itself is really great! Wouldn't that make something along the lines "There's a part of NiGHTS is you"? It would be so nice...

...and then took on the form of the boss in an explosion of firey evil. They could even have a nod to the River Styx with the shadows always swiriling around the Black Sea in Wizeman's throne room. Just imagine Wizey pulling a shodow out of the air and molding it into a boss. They could do the same with NiGHTS- to the male dreamer he could look more aerodynamic and have a deeper (but still androgynous) voice, and to the female dreamer he could be more frilly and have a more feminine voice. Then, the dremers could pick a pronoun for NiGHTS, but Reala would, if he was to return, never use a pronoun. It would be the best way to subtly show that NiGHTS is androgynous, and his personality depens on what the Dreamer thinks.
Now on to dreamers! Dreamer customization would be fun- pick from some different outfits, faces, and hairstyles, the pick an interest. From there, the plot would relate to the interest chosen. If that happens, there should be only one dreamer, so twice the number of levels would be in order. Like DARiA said, keep it unique- I'm all set with beach levels, thank you very much.
In the levels themselves, they should be totally over the top with glitter and fun things to explore to create a stark contrast with the dark shadows and fire of Nightmare. Music in Nightmare should start out as creepy moaning that buils up to chanting then ultimately a really derranged orchestration, like Danny Elfman. Imagine Nightopia as a hybrid of Walt Disney and spun sugar with Nightmare like Tim Burton and Tim Curry gone mad. A more dramtic contrast would make the Nightmare ares more frightening.
Don't show Wizeman until the end! Player should feel his presence, but never actually see Wizeman as a real being until the end. He should be like Ganon in A Link to the past- eveyone is afraid of him, his changes on the world are noticable, and statues and images of a triumphant Ganon dot the landscape, but it isn't until the final reveal that we actually see him in person. It's that chilling sense of a higher power that needs to be captured in Wizeman's personality. If there was the echoing laugh of Wizeman as each shdow became a boss, then it was heard lound and clear in Wizeman's actual reveal, it would be a creepy touch.
Going back to the levels, I think that ideya palaces whould return, but I don't want every dreamer having every ideya. Seriously, ave Claris and Elliot been canonized as saints yet? They are pure, courageous, wize, intellegent, and hopeful. At least Will and Helen have to learn each trait as they progress through Nightopia and learn more about themselves. Plus, if every dreamer has all five ideya, what makes the red one so special? Are Claris and Elliot lucky to just be flawless in every way? maybe instead of starting in Nightopia, each level would begin in a ravaged, nightmarish Nightopia. As each ideya is relased from it's capture, the level can improve slightly. With each mare, things can become more lush, the music can become fore birght and orchestrated, and the Pians go from Mepians to regular Pians. By the time the final ideya is released, Wizeman's curse is broken and the music is fully orchestrated, the graphics are bright, and the pians are singing. After the level is beaten, it should stay sunny for exploration with Dreamers. I like that JoD had multiple missions in each Nightopia, so that should stay, and each mission should be in the "pure" version of the level.
The Dream Gate should return, but all of the doors should be fixed by the end. It always seemed so lopsided to me. In each level, the dreamer should ultimately recieve an ideya of their own, and the level ought to be related to it's ideya somehow.
Sorry for the endless rant, but each idea seemed to build off of the last.

Also, Selph would be a nicely added bonus.
I agree it would be fun to go up aganist yourself or something like that.
Also leave out the feeling like the Wii remote is not connecting.
More easy flying and no awakers...Gosh I hate those things!

- I'm sure to be stoned for this, but I only want NiGHTS, Wizeman, and Pians to return. Reala can't just keep coming back to life; the symbolism is shattered if he keeps being revived. The same thing happens with Jackle- he's cool, but what does he have to do with the plot?
- I like how in JoD, the flying level introduces each of the areas that will be explored in later missions. The next NiGHTS game should keep that.

Maybe a mini game where your flying for performence? I mean free fly with practice which has unlimited time and show where you show off or flying skills. It could be an easy way to enjoy what NiGHTS was shown to do.

That's a brilliant idea. I'd love to just fly around in the Dream Gate and enjoy it's prettiness without Owl yelling at me to follow instructions that I already know.Maybe a mini game where your flying for performence? The problem would be with intellectual property. Everyone involved would basically have to sign a contract saying that they are forfeiting payment for any work done on the game. That sort of thing looks seriously sketchy in the industry.
In addition to that there is sure to be a lot of terrible suggestions (e.g. NiGHTS/Reala romance scenes, NiGHTS should have a gun and shoot cops, the dreamers should be emo, et al.) Whoever ends up in charge of filtering all that would end up BASICALLY being in charge of the entire direction of the project and the purpose of getting fan input for serious design purposes would be defeated.
The game industry would not work as a democracy, unfortunately.
In Japan, the market is very different - for one thing the Hatsune Miku game would never sell stateside since American otaku aren't as willing to pay for that kind of thing. I mean, the fact that in Japan you can buy a figure of "Kagami from Lucky Star cosplaying as Hatsune Miku referencing Orihime Inoue from Bleach" boggles the mind. Put her on anything and it will sell in Japan. (American fans don't even like paying for DVDs of a show they like)
Also, the game was clearly designed beforehand and they just left certain variables of things like "SONG TO BE CHOSEN FROM FAN SUBMISSIONS", "CHARACTER TO BE CHOSEN FROM FAN SUBMISSIONS" etc. Basically, fan content could be put into a game but it wouldn't be possible for fans to design the game. (In the same way that Mega Man 6 had fan-made Robot Masters... it doesn't really change the design beyond what the bosses look like. It's just a gimmick.)
Also Hatsune Miku and Mega Man are guaranteed to be pretty big sellers. NiGHTS, not so much.
THIS POST IS LONGER THAN IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN.

And I definitely get the whole "Generic video game peepz would give bad ideas thing", but what if it was limited to our community. And not design the game per say, but you guys know this community could've given SEGA some better ideas than some stuff they have. I mean... reading through all these posts sounds like it could be a whole game. The VOCALOID stuff you had to be a member of the PIAPRO community I believe, which is the big site for fans. We're the big site for NiGHTS. I know this wouldn't happen because of how... much smaller the community is, but it's a nice thought, ne?

I think that every person have all of the Ideyas, it just that some of them glow brighter, so to say. Like some people are more brave, the other more intelligent, some other always keep hope alive, or able to learn and grow stronger, or simply pure and nice. The main trait of the dreamers was bravery so far, so they were able to keep their heads high and face the odds. But I must say that it would be nice to see how a person with a different trait behaves.
And I seem to fail to see how would symbolism shatter if Reala comes back. NiGHTS can appear in a dream of any dreamer, as anyone can relate to NiGHTS. As NiGHTS isn't an exclusive entity to only one dreamer, wouldn't that mean Reala isn't one, too? Everyone has a shadowy part of himself, which is the way Reala can drag you into a nightmare - which won't be about flames and tortures all the time, I believe. Mine are mainly about university >_<
And I suddenly thought that JoD bossmarens are actually NiD bossmarenrs .__. What remained of them. It's like Noctourne said, they are formless, but take form of a dreamer's fear in a symbolic way. Is that possible?
As for the effects like rainbows or rain or thunderclouds - oh yes *_* Rain falling upside-down, why not?

Reala was just a boss in NiD. He symbolized NiGHTS beating his evil side (to me, at least), but at the end of the day he was as significant as Puffy or Gulpo. Reala's return in JoD was purely fanservice. Unless the next NiGHTS game is a prequel, NiGHTS should be dead and stay dead. NiGHTS is good now- he's no longer the trickster of NiD.And I seem to fail to see how would symbolism shatter if Reala comes back. Um, I really sorry if I misunderstand, but did you mean Reala in this sentence?
Or, did you mean that since NiGHTS faded in a white light in JoD, he faded from the dreamworld completely?

4 storylines instead of 2. two of the four unlocked later when children that had fallen into black ocean before will get rescued by new visitors
so in the rescued visitors' storyline you actually play in real nightmare not just boss!
4 type of missions: normal mission (no chase missions! i like taking extra laps this mission would be just like original nid ), link mission, platforming mission for children (i think this is a really good idea to use children) and vs. missions -> no childish "collect 50 nightopians" missions
and u can also finish normal missions with children unlike JoD
the dreamgate will still exist
my dream is more easy to play
original nightmarens return: jackle, reala, dunbalon, these are the oens i like (i like dunbalon better, puffy is gay )
awakers only for platforming missions, normal missions have egg-alarm
star chips are featured!
children gameplay is easier, more like NiD, no camera problems like JoD
a new brother for NiGHTS also for reala lol. reala and the new brother are unlocked and you can play with them
in the nightmaren missions maybe u can dualize with reala? XD lol
the rings are back to their original colours, i mean orange and yellow not just yellow
owl is in the game
no long cutscenes, actually just little short cutscenes, so nights speaking is featured
wizeman boss is harder
that's all i can think right now but i could say more i think

1. Bring back the old features. Jackle, Reala Day, etc.
2. Make it ACTUALLY like a dream. Don't make the dreamers so stiff during gameplay and make everything alot more...what's the word...cartoony? Bouncy? UNrealistic?
3. I second the motion of playing as Jackle and Reala.
4. I don't want to say to get rid of the voices, just give them different ones. Reala sounded FAR too serious at points, NiGHTS's strayed from androgynous at points, but Wizeman was epic.
5. Make it a bit more heartwarming and touching during most of the game, but dark and depressing in some of the darker moments.
6. Show us what Nightmare really looks like.
7. Make the My Dream more like the Chao Garden.
8. Make the dreams wider and more spread out, like a Zelda game.
9. Bring back Selph.
I don't know. These are just a few things i think they should do.
EDIT: I also think they should put in dreamer customization.

1- JACKLE! like everyone else wants
2-the game be like SADX/SA2B like three diferent stories NiGHTS, Reala and jackle of course
3-Reala and Jackle can dualise with dreamers too (hurr imagine reala with a girl XD)
4-i also like the idea of the "create your own dreamer n stuff XD"

1) In the cutscene, one of the old or new dreamers refer NiGHTS as a "she". Like Will and Owl refers NiGHTS as a "he" in his dreams on Journey of Dreams.
2) Although Wizeman is the main villain of the NIGHTS series, Reala as the chief would have two of his bumbling henchmen to do his dirty work. Kind of similair to Eggman's Decoe and Bocoe. Or classic Scratch and Grounder. Or Eggman's Orbot and Cubot Cruella's Horace and Jasper.
3) New treasures.
4) Everything else is A-OK.

Maybe Sega could hold a contest nation wide for chacters created by fans ( i just said fan characters) to appear in a new Nights game.
Oh God, please no! The last thing we need is a Mary-Sue/Gary-Stu created by a deluded fangirl/fanboy becoming canon.

I agree that taking people's fan characters as they are could put Mary Sues in there, but if Sega did have a contest, they would probably just take art designs, which I think would be a good way to spur their creativity. And if they took some ideas for the boss fight mechanics, that would be great, too. Though I wouldn't want to be the poor person to sift through all those letters/e-mails.
