NiGHTS Saturn 40% Beta
#1
Posted 18 November 2007 - 11:35 AM

I am drx, and I've dumped quite a few Sonic protos in my time
(www.hidden-palace.org)
I come to you with a, well, urgent offer. I have encountered a NiGHTS proto. It's not a shitty proto, however. It's a... 40% completed proto. There is one but, though - the guy is asking $1500.
Now, normally I'd probably spend that much on it but it's not the case now (I'm out of cash).
So I wanted to ask you - would anyone here spend $1500 on a NiGHTS 40% beta in ~2 days? Otherwise some prototype hoarder will end up getting it and it will be lost foreeeeeeeeever.
The guy also has a more complete NiGHTS proto for $500.
If you don't have that kind of money individually, maybe it would be possible to raise around $1.5k? If I have enough (strong) declarations, I could possibly prolong the hold up to a week maybe.
A Sonic Team beta, especially 40% completed - that's not something you can encounter twice, especially if it's NiGHTS. That's why I came here. I would take a loan probably if I could, but I'm already buying a lot of stuff from the seller already so it's out of question for me.
I'm sorry if I'm offending anybody, asking for money and all without making any introductory topics, just wanted to help out. Feel free to ask any questions regarding the prototype (though, keep in mind, as I do not own it, I can't tell you what's different etc.; I can't tell you where it comes from, obviously; it's a legit deal, I've dealt with the seller before, and he's to be trusted)

Anyone crazy with money to burn? We'd love you forever.
All sorts of sh!t might be on there including debug, Selph, alternate versions of bosses before finalised etc etc.
So rare you honestly REALLY will not see this ever again. I've not seen it in 11 years.
If anyone is interested get talking. You could own the rarest thing ever in the NiGHTS franchise.

Some of our older members with jobs could contribute to this but it's something that they would need to think over. I don't suppose he could give us a bit more time to talk about this, could he?
I don't have any money now since we went to Amsterdam and i went over my own budget. The whole Amsterdam/Sega trip was that spur of the moment thing that only usually happens to me once every year or so. I don't think i could put money towards this now no matter how much i want it so it's really all on the fanbase, here.

Would the seller be able to extend the time for this? Two days is kinda 'do or die' and i know that it's not enough time for most of these forum members to discuss what their options are.

It's rather unfortunate, but you have got to understand that there are several serious Saturn collectors that would paypal him whatever money the second he mentioned a NiGHTS 40% beta to them, so the seller is doing me a big favor as it is (by keeping it a secret for 2 days). I really wish it wasn't like that, but it's not for me to decide =/
In effect, I can only prolong the time if I am _sure_ someone will come up with the money on time. I can't risk my reputation with the seller either.
So getting the beta is only possible if:
1) some generous and wealthy individual here will be able to come up with the cash
2) several people will declare will to gather $1500
I know it's unlikely, but hey, at least I tried.

Well, in that case, it really is up to the rest of the forum members. If you're in a position to contribute hugely to this then i suggest you speak up now. Just getting a discussion going about who is able to do what will help things progress. This kinda thing doesnt happen everyday. It probably doesn't happen every decade either. It's one of those things where once it's gone, it's probably gone for a very long time, if not for good.
I know some people here have shown interest in what NiD was before it became the game we know and love. And there has been so many people here who have wondered about Selph and what he is. This could very well be the only chance we get to knowing anything about him.
I am not saying Selph is 100% certain in this beta but he could most certainly be, if it's only 40% completed.
Anyways, for the people who are able to, i strongly suggest you speak up now and try and figure out a plan for yourselves.
If i didn't go Amsterdam on that Sega trip i would have put my money on to this in a heartbeat.

So far, it doesn't look too promising.
DRX, when exactly is the closing date on this offer? You said two days. Does that mean this offer started last night...so we only have one day left?

I think TRiP might send out an email to everyone signed up at our boards, informing them of this news. Maybe someone who isn't a regular visitor might be able to help fund this.

I'd say we have around 30 hours starting now. I have tried registering here as soon as I got the offer, but the activation took time...
I only have 349 dollars.
350*5=1750. If 5 people with 350 bux donated, we could get it...

If I had to donate, I would donate 50-100 dollars (If that would help).

drx, if someone else gets this, could you do us a huge favor and hook us up with them?
The seller will obviously be in contact with whoever this sells to, and since you're friends with the seller, you could possibly direct him here?
I'm seriously dying to see what's on this beta, and from the sounds of it, you're our only hope here :/ This is like the find of the decade, it'd be seriously depressing if it amounted to naught.

Let me make this clear right now. I HAVE THE MONEY FOR THIS. IN FULL. However, there are a lot of other factors that I have to take into consideration (like living expenses). Given my banks are closed today anyway, I would need at least until 1PM EST tomorrow to consider all this and move my funds around.
It's a really tough decision for something like this. If you have any type of solid proof to verify this prototype's existence, show it as soon as possible and I'll probably be a little less hesitant.

Just one thing though. As lovely as it sounds for everyone to gather $1500 for this, where would the disk end up? That episode of the Simpsons where they buy issue 1 of Radioactive Man springs to mind... XD
EDIT: Wow, nice one TRAViS o_O

Take your time, Travis though. This is some big amount of money.
DRX. Is it possible to ask the person just an extra day? I know it might be pushing it since you know the guy and don't wanna step on his toes but an extra day could really smooth out the plans in here.
But, before anything goes through between you guys, i want to know how the rest of the fanbase will benefit from this. If the purchase takes place and the Beta is bought, are you guys going to be sharing everything you find on that Disc with the rest of the community and if so, how?
I may be able to put €200-300 towards it if it's needed. (that's somwhere around $375 on the outside)

My point exactly. If i was the one buying it, i'd want to show you guys everything on it because...er...well...i'm co-admin of the website, lol. It's kinda like my job. XD;

Really though, where is this being sold exactly? Who is in line to buy it, and will he/she most likely not share any info they get from the game?
Also...is it really worth it. I mean, what are the chances something that new and wonderful will be on there that its worth $1500. I love NiGHTS too, but...but thats just a bit much. It would really stink to pay all that money and there but not much to learn from it. But it would be really nice to see. Its going to bug us till kingdom come now.....
*Still wonders why she remembers an Egg clock that was really only a clock flying like a UFO in her sampler game from 11 years ago.*
----Edit---
Also....that is a good point Sairus. O.O I remember that episode too.
#19
Posted 18 November 2007 - 07:38 PM

From what I gathered he would like to share it with everybody so that's great, but the decision is his to make.
Also, he only probably has the money for the 40% beta. If anyone is interested in getting the other one, let me know, but I don't guarantee the other one has anything interesting (it's more complete after all) =p
I'll keep you folks posted.

That said, I am willing to contribute up to $300-$400 Canadian. This is an amazing chance for the fans! If we can score this, whoever gets the actual copy should agree to share the goods with the rest of us, maybe even capture some video footage!
Now if we were to pay as a group, how would we organize it? Set up a Paypal pot?
#21

So, will the Beta be sent to TRAViS then? Does he have all the correct equipment to run the Beta or ....lol...i really don't know nothing about hacking so, eh, as long as you guys know what you're doing, i'm happy.

maybe even capture some video footage!
Yeah, i was thinking something like that, too. If it's possible, of course

#22
Posted 18 November 2007 - 07:52 PM

But you guys can do whatever you want, of course.
#23
Posted 18 November 2007 - 08:01 PM

If, however, Travis is 100% certain he wants to go alone then it's all up to him. So far, he's the only person that has said he's able to do something to that scale.
And i trust him when he says he will share it with us all too so we will not lose out if he does decide to buy it by himself.
Anyways, as i said, this is all down to you guys to decide. Just let us know what is happening and how everything goes down.

if you mind me clarifying a few things......first.....40% beta........thats at least well over a 3rd of the game and secrets....thats um....*counts and estimates* 3 levels for each......( i may be wrong......but i dont own the game)
there is also a chance that a 40% build wont respond to the system.........i have no clue.......im just guessing of what i know with PC and old Tech........
the Beta...which kinda Means working but Bugged...and or Viral.... or other kinda Random Quirks of coding......so um....if you guys um do try and buy and play it...be wary with the saves.......
but as a Collecter's point of view i do think this is a 1 rare Item. and no copies of it......um and we are at.....1 item....and 6.3 Billion people...i say....GO for it lol
hope this Helps

How the seller can ask that amount without giving more detailed a description of the item is beyond me.
I'm interested in the contents of the disc naturally, but not that badly.

Take care with what you're doing here, whoever ends up getting this. I'm not trying to point fingers and say this is false, but always make sure you know what you're getting into, especially for this amount of money.

Hoever, in response to Hirzuka's post, can you please try and format your posts so their not so annoying to read? I wouldn't usualy actually say anything, but that post was a little extreme.
That's a quick rewrting of your post with some decent grammer. It's not perfect, so don't nitpick, but it's a hell of a lot easier to read.Hey all. From what I'm hearing, this guy is really nuts for asking it at that kinda price. I guess the question is "How dedicated are you for it?" (Which is a no brainer. It's a must buy)

As everyone is saying, definitely be careful with what you're buying and try to get as much info as possible beforehand.
I will certainly donate if you do proceed to rip it. Probably anywhere from $5-50 for the rip. But it is up to you how you want to play this.
Best of luck to you.

Good call.I've recently come across several grand for being awesome, though I'm in two minds about this. My advice to whoever does get it is to rip it, sell it, then distribute the rip.
Rip better be bin/cue tho.

I think, to say thank you for TRAViS doing this for us, we should help pay him back some of the cash. I noticed some of you were going to pool money together but TRAViS decided to go it alone because it may have been too much trouble to get that all sorted out in time to reach the deadline. So, if you were going to put some money towards the Beta, instead put your money towards TRAViS. I think it will be a nice way to help say thanks to him.
Once the game is in TRAViS' hands and it's all in working order, TRAV can give us his paypal account details and we'll donate some money to him.
I think it's fair. TRAV was going to buy this for the community anyway. His entire savings is going on this so i think, as a fanbase, we should help pay him back. TRAV may own the disc but he's doing this for the fanbase and he's promised me to provide us with everything he finds and i trust him.
So, can we have some of that community spirit up in here and help get some of Trav's money back to him, yeah? I don't even have much money left but i'm still gonna send some money his way, too.

Encore to TRAViS. Thank you for doing this, man.
