Owl is actually Jiminy Cricket, and NiGHTS is Pinocchio. Wizeman is Gepetto, and THE GREAT MOTHER is the Blue Fairy.

Reala is still a log, and Jackle is a bunch of discarded parts in the wastebin.

Hm.. I don't think you need to worry. One of their main goals this time was expanding the gameplay from NiD; peruse the articles in the JoD news section to get the lowdown on everything. But here's just a small sample of things to do in JoD that we could never do in NiD:

Online multiplayer
Expanded two-player modes
'My Dream', which functions similar to Sonic Adventure's Chao Garden. Uses Wii online weather functionality. Interactive between players.
Multiple missions for each dream
'Dreamdrops' - functions like the Emblems in the Sonic Adventure games

One thing that makes NiD legendary is its replayability; score attack. As long as JoD's key capture can hold a candle to Ideya Capture, we'll be okay.. it worries me though. But yeah, ton of stuff to do besides the main game now.

Hate those too. Just the other day I dreamt that I was playing NiD. Wouldn't be nothing special if I DID have the NiGHTS into Dreams game. I then got lucid and realized that unfortunally I still didn't have no game.
But then I went "Oh wth, I'm playing NiGHTS tonight. @.=" Unfortunally, didn't last long. ;__;

Now, another JoD AND dreaming with NiGHTS game random thought : This morning I dreamt that I was seeing some cutscene from the new JoD game, and in this dream the intire game was about NiGHTS past. I think the game was all like a "flash-back", and I could see NiGHTS with a design very similar (if not equal) to TRiPPY's U.V. NiGHTS. It was all going around NiGHTS story and past, with Reala included in the cutscene.

The game just looked kickass. @w@
