Sonic The Hedgehog Cartoons

My opinions:
SatAM-was pretty good, great animation and great puns(I love those puns!) but it only lasted two seasons with a third season planned out but never aired. I wasn't around to watch Sonic SatAM(hey, I'm only twelve!) but I've seen the episodes on Youtube and DVD.
AoSTH-Loved it! It showed plenty of discredited villains such as Scratch, Grounder and Coconuts. Funny. My only complaint is that Sonic and Tails are the only heroes in the series(as far as I know).
Sonic X-3/5 simply because 1. It's like SEGA WANTS to kill off every character! First Maria, then Molly, then Cosmo, WHO'S NEXT!? And is it just me, or are all the people who died GIRLS!? Is SEGA sexist or something!?(technically, I can't count Shadow unless I refer to the Japanese version, but in the English version, he just disappears, so I can't count him as dead) and 2. The voices weren't that good it the American version. It might be just me, but I do NOT like the voices...
Sonic Underground-pretty well done. I was surprised that Double D's voice actor voices Sonic's Singing Voice. The voices overall were so-so, while the animation looked as though it was a cross between Sonic SatAM and Sonic X. I'd give it a 4/5.
Sonic The Hedgehog(film)-Quite funny. I love how Tails sounds(he sounds like a stuffy little kid...hey, in my book that is grade-A cute) and Sonic's voice was...hard to describe...Knuckles's voice may have been the best Knuckles voice before Scott Drier(Adventure to Heroes). Metal's voice was...like a robotic SatAM Sonic. And when I saw that Eggman and the President were voiced by the same person(only time I EVER pay attention to the credits) I wanted to jump out the window, take the movie and voice over the President's and Eggman's lines, only to realize I couldn't voice act Eggman to save my life. The animation was like a cross between a tall Sonic from Next Gen(I think he looks tall in that game) and Sonic CD. 4/5 for some odd voices(i.e.: Eggman, Sonic, Metal Sonic).
What are your opinions? *sits here waiting to collect dust*

For visual quality, Sonic X can't be beat. Though some of the best Sonic animation ever, IMO, are the cinemas in Sonic CD.
I find Sonic X is so much more enjoyable in Japanese. It's not just you, 4Kids kinda generally sucks at what they do. Haven't seen it in a while though, so I have no idea about Molly and Cosmo.
And I haven't seen the OVA. I'd like to.

SatAM is what got me hooked on Sonic in the most hardcore way possible. I love the show, I love the atmosphere. Bunnie is my favorite SatAM original character, I would say. This series is one of those things that heavily shaped my life. I'll credit it with supplying me with a hatred of authority and distrust of industrial/corporate culture? It also opened the door to the comic book series which did some great things with the universe (before doing stupid things with the universe). Also Sonic singing about the rocket in his pocket? Comic gold.
Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog I like. It was kind of just the Sonic series which got one through the week until the next SatAM episode aired. However upon rewatching the show on DVD, I think it is pretty quality in a very silly way. It is definitely the most "cartoony" of Sonic Cartoons. I own an original animation cel of Sonic from this series and it makes me happy.
Sonic Christmas Blast is an odd duck. It has Princess Sally (sans voice) from SatAM but is clearly set in the AoStH universe. And even though I am not a religious/Christmas sort AT ALL there is something kind of fun about it that I like.
Sonic Underground is cool with its biggest flaw being fairly lame music videos and annoying digital video pans (they looks 'too smooth' and awkward). Also while I support Jaleel White as the voice of Sonic and Manic, his Sonia sounds too masculine to work right and it throws things off.
Sonic OVA (aka "Sonic the Hedgehog the Movie) is pure class in a silly way. I enjoy it thoroughly in Japanese. The English dub has a place of honor as the worst dub I have ever heard in my life (more so than Panzer Dragoon, even). Hyper Metal Sonic is cool. the aesthetics of are spot on. Even if the story and characters are kind of dumb, I think it is plenty good. I also like the ending theme lots.
Sonic X I never got into. I own the first four DVD volumes and consider them too boring to deal with. I've heard things get better later on but it seems most episodes are based around stories like "Sonic and friends find out how much fun carnivals are" or "Sonic and friends find out that apples taste good". Too inane for my taste. If the DVDs were released with options for Japanese audio with subtitles, I would stick with it. But I hate the idea of supporting 4Kids and their terrible dub so I won't watch any more than I already have.
Also the Sonic X comic is pretty lame compared to the main comic. Yet somehow it has lasted for more issues than the Knuckles comic! This is pretty dang tragic IMO.

...Wait, Jaleel White voices all three?
Yeah, I'll never look at Sonic Underground the same way due to this news...but then again, Sonic's singing is voiced by Sam Vincent(Double D in the American version of Ed Edd n' Eddy)...meh, go figure!

YAY! I thought I was the world's only AoSTH fan. It was funny, like the old Warner cartoons, pure and simple. As nice as SatAM is/was, It was just too elaborate. AoSTH you could just jump right in abd enjoy an episode- in SatAM, you need to see the whole series to know what's going on.
everybody now- "I HATE THAT HEDGEHOOOOOOOOOOOOG!!!"

Then when the episodes were released on DVD it struck me. It is a play on words of "homos"!
The resulting pun is pretty great IMO. (Not that approve of using "homo"as a pejorative or anything.)

AoStH I didn't like because of the liberties they took with the characters, such as Sonic's random fondness for chili dogs, and they were also kind of ugly. It's funny and all, but kind of hard on the eyes.
SatAM I think I only ever saw about half an episode of, which I didn't like.
People seem to either love or hate Sonic X, but I personally think it was a lot better than what some other fandoms had to put up with. It might also be because I was watching subbed episodes, rather than the 4shame dub.

Sonic X is a mixed bag. There were good episodes, and awful episodes.
I've never watched Sonic Underground.
The Sonic OVA is the best! Nice animation, lots of action and humor.

Sonic SatAM- In my humble opinion, this was the best out of all the cartoons in the Sonic Universe and what prompted me to try drawing my own series. While it had a darker atmosphere than most of the other shows, it managed to keep a light-hearted moment every now and then (go Dulcy!). Also I consider the Robotnick in this series the "best" since he was a threat to Sonic and his friends and never waivered from that whereas the others seem as threatening as Team Rocket or Andrew Oinkanny (Star Fox).
Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog- Despite the fact that everyone seems to hate this one, I believe that this one was okay for what it was... The silly cartoony stuff that this series had entertained my sister and I, but these days we prefer to keep it over in our rosy colored memories (like the first Ninja Turtles cartoon).
Sonic Underground- I can't really pass judgement on this one since I've only seen 5-7 episodes of it, but like Adventures, I feel that it was okay for what it was. The only thing that I found annoying was the fact that they always felt the need to sing. I had to give Jaheel White (one of the two best Sonic voice actors in my opinion) respect for playing a female character though (don't see too much of that these days).
Sonic OVA- Provided many laughs in a good way, I'll admit
Sonic X- (or Sonic ECKS! if you watch the 4Kids version) Once again, I can't pass judgement here since I've only seen the badly mutilated corpse of the show that 4Kids presented to the fanbase. But after seeing various Japanese scenes on Youtube (before they were removed), it seemed like it was a good show.

never watched the sat AM thing, unfortunately. however, if it's anything like the archie comic, never mind
and as for sonicX- chris is probably the biggest mary sue (and no, i did mean for the feminine here) in all of sonic. except for maybe the princess- but she doesn't stick around for too long, now does she? the plot made perfect sense- just base it off the video games. then they went into outer space. they ruined it there. just like 4kids has ruined so much before the poor blue hedgehog. like the Mews. and kirby. (shudders) they need to be stopped, badly. let's just hope they never turn their destructive gaze to NiGHTS...

loved adventures of sonic the hedgehog. I can still sing the theme song. and my fav epi is tails in charge. ah, good times. good times.

The Archie comics actually based their stuff off of the SatAM cartoon, but trust me... the cartoon is likable. The Archie comic, in my opinion, is just a long, never-ending fanfiction.
P.S. Half of us pray that 4Kids never turns their destructive gaze in NiGHTS' direction

SonicX- I shall readily admit I catch this on 4kids every other Saturday or so, watch it, then silently mock Chris Thorndike for the rest of said Saturday
LOL can you even IMAGINE what we'd do to them if they did?!?P.S. Half of us pray that 4Kids never turns their destructive gaze in NiGHTS' direction
I'd vote for sending a team to burn down there headquarters (Kidding!)

Sonic Underground: Never watched it, never will.
AoStH: I absolutely adored that show. I enjoyed the quirky humor. I also enjoyed the antics of Grounder, Coconuts, and Scratch.
Sonic Movie: I had mixed feelings about that thing. I just didn't like it as much as I should've.
Sonic X: I humbly admit right now that I somewhat enjoyed this anime'. Bash me if you want, I just enjoyed the show while I watched it.*
*There is a cameo of Case Closed in one of the episodes when Vector the Crocodile puts on big glasses and a wig that resembled Conan Edogawa's (Jimmy Kudo's) hairdo.

I'd like to be part of said team. but do we need them to go after NiGHTS first?
kidding.
anyway, on the topic, i remember this book a (okay, i'll admit, i had a crush on him. then he stole my ruby version.) guy i knew gave me way back when. i'm pretty sure it was based off the SatAM cartoon, and i absolutely adored it.
and not that long ago, i got a few sonic underground episodes on dvd. lol, all three hedgehogs are voiced by urkle.

And Robotnik, oh man he was both scary and awesome at the same time and his obsession with wanting to turn everything into robots made you feel you were watching a real psycho at work.

SatAM was the best. I remember I recorded them all. XD Now I'm tempted to buy the DVD set.
The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog was funny and not as serious as the SatAM. I remember in grade school when I would wake up and watch it while I was getting ready for school.
I did *not* like Sonic Underground. XP
I liked the Sonic OVA anime. ADV released it over here a few years ago and while the dub was bad, I still liked the animation and Metal Sonic.
I haven't seen much of Sonic X. I've only seen the first few episodes in Japanese. It makes me happy that the Chaotix are in it atleast.

Heh heh I saw that... XDI think it's relevant to the topic that Nostalgia Critic has decided to add his two cents about Sonic cartoons.
Nostalgia Critic-Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog
I actually got the DVD versions of SatAM and AoSTH for Christmas, and I liked 'em both. Especially AoSTH. In one episode Coconuts sounded somewhat like Jackle. And I love Grounder for some reason. I find him adorable. XD
I've never watched Sonic X, and frankly I don't want to. 4Kids ruins everything. They better not turn their fearsome gaze to our beloved NiGHTS!
I've never watched Underground, but I don't really want to see that either. XP
However, I LOVED the OVA. I watched it on YouTube, and thought the visuals were beautiful. I'm attempting to get a copy on DVD. I actually kinda liked the English dub. Tails's voice was adorable, and at some points I couldn't resist Sonic's voice, ("STRANGE iSN'T iT?!") I loved Metal Sonic as well. His... erm... "voice" was cool. Even if it mainly consisted of bleeps and boops. I loved it.

Yeh, I have the movie on VHS.........Yes, I'm pretty OldSkool...
IMO, the Sonic OVA isn't just the best Sonic animated adaption, it's one of the best animated adaption of a video game ever. The only thing I can think of that comes close would be the Earthworm Jim cartoon.

Actually, some parts of the SMBSS were good. My complaint is that they overdo the VG noises.

I agree that AoStH took far too many liberties, but they weren't the only ones. Sonic Underground is just plain not Sonic with all their changes. Plus, AoStH and SatAM has more or less the same Robotnik design, which was, frankly, pulled out of nowhere. It was kind of ugly, but that added to the charm. It was like low budget Looney Tunes in bizzaro world. It really is quite an aquired taste, but if you don't take it too seriously and laugh at both the jokes and the campy quality of the whole thing, it can be much more entertaining than originally thought. I love those crazy backgrounds.
4shame, I like that. They slaughtered Hoshi no Kaabii, so all we got was "Kirby Right back at Ya!" Exuse me?! I hate how they censor the life out of anime now. I thought early Pokemon was some of their best work, however.
Actually, some parts of the SMBSS were good. My complaint is that they overdo the VG noises.
I love kitsh, so the SMBSS is fun- both corny and well done. The VG noises I like, because they keep the show grounded in the game. Plus, I can't help but crack up at Toad's squeaky head.

It's because it reminds me so much of the kick-ass SONIC CD intro and ending animations.
I think that's the best style for sonic (and sidekicks), I would LOVE to see more stuff of that fashion.
It's not just how he "looks", but how it is all animated and blend together, specially talking about the Sonic CD animations.
It's the kind of thing I see and I admire, and feel respect for all the talented artists who gave it that exact feeling.
There is this little extra in Sonic CD, "pencil test" where you can see what I'm talking about, especially the last animation (even though the quality it was released back in 1992 is very bad)
Anyways, I liked AoSTH when I was a little kid, never saw SatAM, I got to see Underground but by that time I realised the quality of the animation was very bad, and lost interest.

And For the Record For the Person Who Started this Topic I Highly Doubt Sega is Sexist. I mean Sonic Died in 06 and Came Back to Life But That's Still is Considered a Death. Black Doom is Dead, Dark Oak is Dead. Seems to me That Males Die as Often as Females. Besides According to Sonic SATAM, Robuttnik Heheheh Should be Dead. Right? Plus Lets not Forget the Knuckles Tribe. Chaos Destroyed them all Cept for Tikal being his friend.
