Darker NiGHTS?

It sorta makes sense for a game about nightmares to be dark. Hell, the last nightmare that I had was about mass murder.

Would you care to see a NiGHTS game with a darker theme?

Yes, I think a lot of us would. I think it would be more interesting if Reala had captured Nights and had taken him to Wizeman only to discover that he wanted to replace Nights personality or soul with something else. And instead of Helen and Will wandering around boring forest mazes and kid friendly las vegas trying to find Nights they can wonder the corridors of Nightmare Casle or dimension wherever Wizeman was staring into space from. While wandering the hallways, instead of butterflies, bees, and other non scary animals Reala is chasing them kind of like the awakeners but scarier.

Trust me, it's much creepier than it sounds.

I'll pass.
I don't have a problem with the idea of NiGHTS delving into horrific and mature themes but I would not want a game made excessively edgy so that it will appeal to high schoolers.

By darker I only mean slightly. Not Shadow the Hedgehog dark.

Of course not as dark as Shadow the Hedgeog. Darker. You know like a death metal music video or a gothic video. Maybe an absence of kids. Like NiGHTS rebels and makes it to Nightopia. However NiGHTS gets thrown back into the world of Nightmare by Wizeman shortly after his/her rebellion of the six handed villain. NiGHTS would have to work his/her way out of the place. Sounds like a prequel to the first game. The absence of voices would really enhance to overall moody feel of the game.I never really saw any of the "nightmare"n to be all that frightening. They never seemed intent on killing anyone either.
By darker I only mean slightly. Not Shadow the Hedgehog dark.

If it was done right.
i.e. Tim Burton-style or Okage-style.
They hired anyone who worked on Okage: Shadow King... it had such a mixture of cute x dark that it = epic win of mass proportions

It doesn't have to be mass murder though. It can just be a little unsettling. Not too much but at the same time a lot of fear pouring from the game. Yeah... definitely rated TDarker NiGHTS... hm... that would be hard to imagine. NiGHTS games are always happy and cheerful, I can't really picture mass-murder or anything like that in a NiGHTS game.

Where the dreamers are concerned, I think a key is making their problems and personalities as universal as possible, which I think Sonic Team has tried to do. Though I must say Helen's world seems a little too posh for the average kid's standards.

Oogie Boogie = PuffyMaybe the bosses could look a little less like goddamn witch cats and fat clowns and a little more like goddamn chainsaw-weilding maniacs. Y'know. Just a thought.

The maren are sorta lame in terms of being nightmares. A snake/ghost one would be good. I can't even imagine anyone who is scared of balls or chameleons.(sp?) Spiders I understand, but balls? Real threatening Sega.

Crap, that never even crossed my mind when I made it. I guess they sort of look similar. Both do have the large fangs and tail blades. They're different enough though.So.... it's Seviper, maren style?

The Nightmares are now scary looking at all... I mean come-on! An angry, fluffy, SHEEP, nightmare? That's baaaaad... it's even worse than my pun.
OK maybe not AS bad as my pun but still bad...

I'd offer Black Sheep, but since I haven't seen that movie I can't say if it's actually scary or just laughable. Still, you can either argue that there's phobia for everything, or that it's supposed to look non-scary to fool people. An angry, fluffy, SHEEP, nightmare?

If it's to be dark, it'd be interestingly done in a more ...artistic style, no blood, no gore, perhaps in way of Okage. [ahhhh Okage~] Sometimes, simple things can make things irrational. For example, monsters in my dreams, horror movies I seen, none of them scare me as much as someone who might look absolutely and completely ... normal.
Then again I found the Silent Hill Series a psychological analysis more then a horror game, Resident Evil didn't scare me particularly... but ahhh, Fatal Frame on the other hand? That was enough to creep me out. My this has turned into a rambling about fear - hasn't it?
...To go a little offtopic about Black Sheep now!
I'd offer Black Sheep, but since I haven't seen that movie I can't say if it's actually scary or just laughable. Still, you can either argue that there's phobia for everything, or that it's supposed to look non-scary to fool people.
Honestly, I went in thinking it was a joke and it was ...one of the most ridiculously bloody, gory, and brutal movies I've seen. So I came out more or less confused, I mean I wasn't particularly scared or anything but a lot of the things could easily squick people.
SQUICK UNDER THE SPOILERS, DON'T SAY I DIDN'T WARN YOU
So overall, I was left with...should I be scared, or should I be humored? Honestly, you can't make a horror movie about sheep seriously. It just leaves so many people confused.

Hell No!!!
Theres enought angst in games nowadays. NiGHTS in my mind is a paragon of acid/LSD induced imagery of the gum drop smile and rainbow vomit variety. That's the way I like it, that's the way it's been, and it's worked pretty good so far.

My guess: Because unfortunately some people just add some angst when they want something to be darker.Hey, wait...since when did dark = angst?

That's too bad. When I think of dark, I don't think of self-destruction--rather, insanity, i.e. the above picture.
I think it's unfair to associate darkness with angst. Angst is more suited to the drama genre, not darkness. Drama and dark are two completely separate tones.

I've seen odd film moments before... but this?I'd offer Black Sheep, but since I haven't seen that movie I can't say if it's actually scary or just laughable. Still, you can either argue that there's phobia for everything, or that it's supposed to look non-scary to fool people.
I mean come-on!
ppl who've been looking into the NiGHTS 3 topic would know how much I've been ranting for a darker NiGHTS by now... but, imo, it would be interesting to see some twisted views in the story... and not stuff like "I AM GOD" but things that make sense and make you want to believe it but it's also abit twisted at the same time... then again I may be going above the mark being NiGHTS is still a "for everybody" game... not the best example...

I think everybody who's against a darker theme are afraid Sega will muck up the series like in Shadow the Hedgehog...(shudders) That game sucked .

Speak for yourself. I loved that game and want the NiGHTS series to try to step in that direction. Reala's own game. Guns, violence, cursing and doom. Muahahaha.
