This really got me thinking: What 32-bit (N64 was only 64 bits on its graphics chip ^_^) game do you consider the best? A friend of mine and myself are in a constant argument over this (NiGHTS v FF7*) so I wanted to get a more widespread opinion. As many NiGHTS fans as we have here, surely not ALL of us consider it the greatest of its era (as awesome as that would be).

For each of the above I selected what many consider each system's best Action game and its best RPG game, to try and keep the field even.

If you choose Other, just remember that this is limited to the big 3 32-bit systems: Saturn, PSX, N64. No trying to slip in there with a 3DO, Jaguar, or Pippin game :P

*EDIT: thanks to Xenon for correcting me; it's all of the Final Fantasy series he argues, not just FF7. FF7 stays as a choice since it's the most highly regarded of the Playstation generation.

I actually shouldn't vote on this... I put "Other" only because I am currently at war with myself trying to decide if I like Final Fantasy more than NiGHTS... though technically it's a three-way-tie for first in my mind between NiGHTS, Final Fantasy, and Chrono Trigger/Chrono Cross

This is a never-ending battle... T-T

And TRAViS, I DETEST YOU. Only for putting both options on there. We will argue this topic until time stands STILL.

Well, I picked NiGHTS because unfortunately, I haven't had a chance to try out the others. :P

Trying to chose one or the other would be just like trying to chose what jam you will eat on your toast the morning you wake up.
They all have their good points and they all have their bad points.
I can't really chose because I like them all.

I picked NiGHTS, but FF Tactics and Resi Evil 2 were close, Majora's Mask was up there too. So many great games still lingering from the golden age of 16-bit. But can you even consider FF7 a game? It was one of the most horrid excuses for a battle system with an incredibly inexcusably easy boss that for some reason regularly wins most badd*** baddy of all time, go watch Awesome Fantasy 7 to see what I think of the storyline and characters, (not to mention fans) and the games materia system was a pathetic attempt to incorporate customization and essentially allowing you to make the same three characters no matter who was specifically in your party, No reason to use Barret or Yuffie late game.

I'm probably going to be the only one who picks it but... Panzer Dragoon Saga won my vote after a very long mental battle between it and NiGHTS. I love NiGHTS a heck of a lot ( I wouldn't be here if I didn't XD ), but the world of Panzer Dragoon intrigues me so much.

Plus, Panzer Saga has Atolm.

Atolm is win.

Yes. ò_ó

Ocarina of Time was a truly awesome game. However, I have the most childhood memories from NiGHTS.

Well, unfortunately I'd probably go with Zelda Ocarina of Time. NiGHTS comes into a VERY close second though. On gameplay alone, Zelda wins out. However, NiGHTS is one game whose experience transcends the time you actually spend playing it. The Panzer Dragoon games also come in very close too, because they too transcend their gameplay.

NiGHTS is the only game on that list that I've ever actually played, or had any remote interest in playing.

Is that wrong? :o

As much as I like NiGHTS, my favorite 32-bit game -- and favorite game of all time -- is Shining Force III.

I have played ALL of the above.

There is no contest between them.

NiGHTS wins this match without trying.

Unfortunately, I'm stuck between NiGHTS and Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. I played both of these games long after they came out, still can't beat either one, and like them both (with the exception of the Deku Tree and Forest Temple stages, thank you SEGA for keeping the creepy bugs out of NiGHTS). It's sort of like trying to choose between Naruto and One Piece... I can't do it!!!

So, for now... "Other" will do.

I would choose 'Other,' but I feel that I don't have a right to choose as the only system there I own is 64, and I don't really have any great games for it. I had it given to me too late in the system's lifetime to find any good games in stores. D: Besides, the only game that rivals NiGHTS to me is actually 18-bit (that is SNES, right?) EarthBound 4evar! <_<

I say Panzer Dragoon Saga honestly. I love so much about the game, I doubt I'll ever find another game that could draw me in so much.

NiGHTS was a hugely fun game with awesomeness ALL AROUND but I found PDS to be a more intellectually engaging experience I suppose?

I have played the majority of the games on that list and I can honestly say I have never felt the same way about those games like I feel about NiGHTS. Like I said in a post a long time ago, NiGHTS was the only game that gave me a feeling that I can not describe. Some games have come close to that feeling but they could never surpass what NiGHTS gave me and therefore I will refer to this game as the best game ever until another game comes along that completely transfers my feelings about NiGHTS over to another game. Looking at what has already occurred in this generation of gaming I can tell this generation won't deliver that feeling.

EDIT: To clarify, I'm voting again because I have now played more of the games listed.

I've played all there but Metal Gear and FF, and NiGHTS is by far the best of all of them.

I'm pretty sure that I enjoyed Ocarina of Time more than NiD, but then I'm a huge fan of the Zelda games.

Also, MGS was pretty cool too. Especially Mantis.

Well NiGHTS wouldn't really count, because I just recently played it, so my vote went for Other. My favorite fifth Generation game definately was The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask. It just had everything a game needs<3 They better release it on Virtual Console soon, otherweise I'll go nuts X__X

Yeah, what she said.

From what I saw, there weren't even two in the same genre. That'd be like going to the Oscars and choosing between the winners for each category to select the "Best Entertainment Icon" of the year.
