Day two had a little more progress. We found a folder with TRiPPY on it, but unfortunately it was seen as empty. The partition table still seems to be corrupted, and there was further corruption in some of the folders that were supposed to be there. It's starting to get under my skin a little...

...so tomorrow, I'll be diving in myself. Figuring out the best method to do it, but I'm gonna tunnel in and remote access their compy to see if I can resolve this problem in real time. I'll be having the Sonic R song "Work It Out" on loop while I do this, imagining I'm in my own early 90's montage of a movie, training for the gold...

Work it out, work it out, make it hap-pen.
You've got to make it real!

Eye of the tiger Stevo! Conquer the harddrive and save the files! ...Which will somehow get the high school to reinstate an old coot as the basketball coach. >>

Not only am I not giving up, but tomorrow we're ramping up the hard drive search heuristics to "excessive search". Also, I talked with my friend Michelle, who does professional data recovery, and she says she's willing to help out possibly if my expertise fails.

KEEP ON PUSHING!!!

Didn't have a good day today. Spent all of lastnight waking up every 3 hours to check on a full scan for this other crap PC to virtual memory out on me and close the program 18 hours in e_____e; IM IN A BAD MOOD.

Now we're probably going to have to buy an entire new PC just to give us the ability to actualy USE data recovery software because this one is too slow to run anything more than the calculator.

But at least we found more files! Now lets hope my crap PC setup will actually allow us to save them somehow.

Since i got home I've had nothing to do and it's boring me to tears. I can't draw or anything :P Stupid PC's... I feel like I'm driving Stevo nuts with my shitty techno luck. Sorry man.

Stevo sees what you're doing. Always. And you know he knows all your secrets. ALL. YOUR. SECRETS.

Anyways, hopefully we can get another scan going and increase the VMem size enough for the pc not to crap out, however 256 is a really small amount of real RAM to be working with. We'll hopefully figure something out, I'll probably tweak the size when I get back.

Keep up hope, we're gonna keep trying things until we either get it to work or the new computer arrives.

It's harddrive space that the computer uses as RAM once the actual RAM fills up. Is your harddrive full?

I think its because of how Windows "intelligently" allocates VMem based on actual ram size. The HDD isn't gargantuan but I'm sure there's enough room to change the VMem allocation settings. Going to check it in a few.

Well it would seem that it's going to continue being a pain in the ass today too. Unless the PC i'm using at the mo can suddenly magic up shittons of VM to help the situation.

AN UPDATE ON THE HDD SITUATION-
Stevo pulled some wickywikwicked barebones scan on the HDD using XP with the VM maxed out. It somehow repaired the broken HDD so now it's no longer corrupted.

Thing is though the majority of my files aint there D: SO now starts FIND THE MISSING FILES SCAN!

At least its working now. Some good news at least. It's no longer calling itself hello I'm mister E: 8736487rjhbfgjshfgbjhf||\\\';\ld;k drive nice to meet you.

No idea if this'll work but since Stevo just repaired the MOST ANNOYING HDD IN EXISTANCE i hold faith that my files will be burried in there somewhere.

At this point things are beginning to really baffle me. Not having adequate equipment to finish the scan is exacerbating the situation. I'm not trying to jinx anything but if it turns out that a new computer needs to be bought, and then nothing can be recovered from the scan, my wall may have a few new fist-shaped holes through it. It'll make it easier to say hi to the neighbors at least.

the hard drive: it is mocking me.

Don't worry TRiP. I'm sure something will come along to brighten things up. I'm sure people here would be willing to help with a new PC purchase as well.

This is absolutely insane. It seriously seems like everybody I know is having serious issues at the beginning of the new year. Not just computer related either. I don't blame 2010 though. I blame 2009. That year was a bitch and everybody knows it so it had to go out like a bitch and give everybody one last big middle finger to try and screw up 2010 who seems like he could be a really cool guy. In summary...

f*** you '09!

XD pppfttt 2009 was just a year of trying and getting nothing but steel toecapped boots to the teeth. It truely is lingering!

I hope things take a turn for the better. We've found a PC build we can buy/invest in, going to order it tommorow. I'm hoping it wont take 3 months to arrive or I'm gonna go nutty and develop a keyboard twitch. Serious. This keyboard is like a bloody 80's typewriter >:[ CLUNK CLUNK CLUNK i need my tablet back T_T
Needless to say this is going to kill DiGi's bank. So the ol' coffee fund will definately be open to biscuits.

I'm sleeping in here tonight with a sleeping bag on the floor watching over the PC scan. Hard to the Core!

If the only thing wrong with your computer is the hard drive can you just buy a new hard drive? It would be a shame if you had to buy a whole new computer if the only thing that died is the hard drive. Definitely sucks to lose your files though...

Nah its more than one thing unfortunately, the entire system is unreliable. It heats up WAY too much and freezes while sounding like a food blender, even after the fan has been cleaned. For the kinda things i need to do the PC is as slow as hell and I'll never forgive Vista for making my printer have basic scan settings and no print preview. HP refuse to make patches for anything older than 2 years it seems.

UPDATE!: SO we just bought a new Dell PC. And it's a beast. Not sure when it's arriving but hopefully it wont take too long to build and post. It cost a stupid amount though so if anyone would like to donate even a £1 to help DiGi recount the dent in his bank it would be most apreciated.

paypal-
fearmyhips@yahoo.co.uk

As soon as it arrives we're going to attempt to save the broken HDD and reclaim my files again (with enough horsepower to do so) and get this bloody show on the road. Too much of me sitting about twiddling my thumbs, i have websites to update and jobs to get :-)

Major props to Stevo for the pc rec and help!

Congrats on the purchase! ^_^

I've always been a fan of Dell computers. I've owned 2 desktops and 1 laptop from them and I've never had any real issues with them. For the most part they are pretty customizable and their cost is very reasonable. They also stand by their warranties should you ever run into trouble.

I'm sure it will last you a good long time. Always better to spend a bit more upfront and get something that will last.

^^ yeah, the one I'm using right now is from 2003 and still works! O___O In that time I've owned my AST, E Machine AND the HP. Gonna see how Dell works out :P Having to buy another 3 PC's would work out more expensive in the long run anyway. I'm excited for it to get here :3

-EDIT!
Just got an arrival time of the 3rd of Febuary T_____T why so lonnnnng. Well at least I've got some time to get art done i suppose.

Oof! That hit the bank, that did. son of a-.

I'm concerned about the fact that our stuff still hangs in the balance of "is it safe or isn't it?" ...it's a really bad limbo to be in.
That, and the fact that by the time the comp gets here January will have been finished and it will have pushed us a whole month back with work we need to do.
So much has been effected. Lynne working on her folio, the music i'm making and the deadline i've set myself, stuff that could have been done for the NiGHTS campaign.

Most unfortunate. HP comps are terrible. I'm never getting one of those ever again.

Don't you worry about the music stuff. I'll do your stuff expedited. The other stuff I can't say I can assist with, but hell, this is a set of lessons for the future and there's nothing more you can do at the moment. *slaps a smile onto DiGi* there, now you look better.
