So, yeah. I heard about this a while ago and then it slipped my mind because i thought it was a piss take. Only it's true. They really are going to make a live action Dragom Ball movie. Wait, forget that. They are making it right now. It's been in development for a while apparently.

Apparently the guy that played Spike in Buffy the Vampire Slayer is going to be Piccolo. Well, that's what i heard anyway.

So, love it or hate it, this is heading to the big screen.

Ya know, just for old times sake, i think i will go and see this when it comes out. I'm curious as to how they casted up the other characters. Piccolo had always been a favourite character of mine back in the day. I wanna see how this guy from Buffy acts as him.

Why Dragon Ball? (Personally, I always hated the Dragon Ball series but I won't bring that into this...)
aren't there other anime series that have a higher rep than Dragon Ball? That being said, do you think we can expect more anime to be brought into this? I don't think this is going to end well...
well... better off that FOX handles this, imo, than Universal studios... don't want them leeching off good anime like they did with Marvel... (which, for the record, I never really cared for Marvel either, but ahh well...)
I admit I don' keep up with the going-ons in terms of film making but I still don't think they can master what anime brought us with actors...
hmm... btw this may seem abit off topic but how did speed racer fare on the big screen? Speed Racer being (correct me if I'm wrong) the first anime converted to a major motion picture on the big screen...

Because the manga and anime stopped being made many years ago, the video games can only go so far and Akira Toriyama is HUNGREEEEEH!. Actually, i wonder if Akira is getting any money from this movie. He must do, surely. Won't he? o.o

Akira Toriyama was sick of DB/Z related stuff a long time ago. Why do you think he killed off Goku so many times? Because he was trying to end the series. I think he wanted to end it at the Namek saga. Or was it Cell? I think Cell. He even tries to avoid talking about it in interviews. They milked him too much for it, so he's sick of it. But that was years ago, maybe he changed his tune. Its always sad when people get sick of their own creations.

He'll probably vomit when he watches this.

If they're going to at least attempt this, they need to find people that could fit the character's body styles, at least. :(; And I'm of the firm belief that it would take a muscular black man to physically play Piccolo properly.

Yeh, he can act. He just doesn't look anything remotely like the character he's supposed to be....which kinda defeats the point of making a Dragon Ball movie, in my opinion. Why make a movie on a bunch of well known characters when the actors are made to look nothing like them?

Anyone else getting a Jean Claude Street Fighter vibe from this yet?

Anyone else getting a Jean Claude Street Fighter vibe from this yet?

Oh god, man. Let us not speak of that abomination of game to movie madness. That film completely butchered all that was established for Street Fighter. Though, I must give props to the guy who played Bison. He played a lovely rendition of Bison's personality even if he looked nothing like him. To this day, I cringe at the thought of Vega being a stereo typical Spaniard with the dark skin and hair. <_< NEVERMIND THAT HE WAS FROM A REGION THAT IT'S NATURAL TO HAVE BLONDE HAIR AND PALE SKIN.

Some people can make their differences work for them, but some characters like Piccolo need a little more for them. But, I suppose we need to know the timeframe of the movie compared to the rest of the canon universe (or the approximate thereof) to know exactly who we should be expecting to show up cast wise.

I should SLAP Jams Marsters (Spike from Buffy and my FAVOURITE show Angel) for accepting a retarded role as Piccolo in an even more retarded movie. So get this....

Some caucasian american actor is playing Goku...yeah, and not even a well known one...

Chow yun fat (Crouching Tiger) a freaking AMAZING drama-esque actor and insane action star, is playing a humble 'lazy' old perverted man....yeah ok there....

And a bunch of people with heads up their coolahs thinking this film would sell so they sigend contracts to make this movie. Yup, i like our films nowadays.

THIS MOVIE WILL BOMB!

EDIT: And the worst Christine Dayee to ever appear in any sort of Phantom of the Opera merchandise is playing Bulma..yup..this movie's boned.

I don't even WATCH DB or any of it's series... but I at least know what some of the characters look like... at this point I question if the film will even be remotely simaler to any of the cartoons overall. :/

I will give this movie the benefit of the doubt that it might actually turn out ok. Unlike series adaption movies of the 90's, directors are putting more effort into scripting lately. Still.... I think the Cowboy Bebop live-action from Fox will have a better chance this this one.

... and damn them for not revealing what Piccolo looks like! My favorite prime time TV actor from Angel is playing him so It makes me seriously curious. >:|

I saw some set pics a while back and I already established in my head that this movie will be terrible. I just wonder if kids nowadays who plays the Budokai and Tenkaichi games will feel the same way about this movie like many of us did back in the day about the Street Fighter movie or even the Mario Bros. film.

Word on the street is that Piccolo will look like a stupid purple-spandex superhero type costume? That is what I heard at college last semester but I haven't seen the supposed pictures.

And I cannot lie, I broke down and ordered the first season of DBZ from Right Stuf, as they were having a Dragon Ball sale. I feel like this may be a sign that I am hitting "otaku rock bottom". I know it is a terrible show but I have such fond memories of it!

I saw a bunch of pics last night and they sent me railing. Piccolo looks like a shitty Star Trek villain and seriously, they can make a Dragonball look like some burnt crispy Ideya NiGHTS made in Home Ec. but they can't make a dude green and get a f*!*ing chick's hair to be blue?! [/badlanguage]

This honestly doesn't look anything like Dragon Ball at all. None of the characters look anything even remotely like how they're supposed to look so what is the point of the movie then? If they were going to make a Dragon Ball film then they should have kept in a little more true to the characters in the TV series and manga. sh!t, people are complaining about Optimus Prime having a firey paint job? Piccolo ain't even got the correct colour in this film. Now THAT is something to complain about. I can only imagine the fan response is gonna tits up too, no decent dragon ball fan is going to like this. Dragon Ball strives on it's characters and none of these film cast-ups look anything like what they need to look like.

I wanted to hold some hope for this film because i was curious to see how Piccolo would turn out...and being honest, after seeing that image of James Masters as Piccolo he looks like he's right back in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, not Dragon Ball.

There is so much epic fail emanating from this movie it's hilarious. Seriously, this flick looks even less faithful to the source material than that upcoming GI Joe movie, and that's saying something.

Seriously. With the amount of negative feedback that this film is getting, why on earth are they continuing with it? The fans won't like it, the non-fans won't like it. I know Dragon Ball is kinda cheesy and over-done by todays standards but i still kinda liked the old stuff. The manga was quite fun to read the first time through and i thoroughly enjoyed it. But this movie, i honestly can't figure out what they're trying to do. It's not doing anybody any favors so why are they even bothering?

Oh well, Cowboy Bebop, don't you dare let us down.
