I know he won't (God I hope not) but what if he were to target NiGHTS on his game hitlist?

Use your imagination ^_^

I remember seeing that before x3.

Anyway, I highly DOUBT he'd even TRY to go after NiGHTS, unless he WANTS to be made a laughing-stock. A Flying Jester similar to one found in a friendly, fun-loving book for kids? A moral telling you to follow your dreams?

If he did... a judge would DEFINITELY hit him with their gravel.

He already is a laughing stock. Hot Coffee was the peak of his credibility. He has all but flushed it away.

He's a like a funny show. Its funny to watch him squirm as he tries to sue every video game company under the sun and gets squished every time.

He would never go after NiGHTS.
NiGHTS is WAY too benign for him to ever target it.

Wizeman would have a few choice words for him, I'm sure...

...NiGHTS would have a rather boring day, too. Every Nightmare and Maren would be tormenting the guy. In a coma.

A long coma.

I could've sworn I made a thread just so we could curse the bastard out. Wonder what happened to it.

For my part, I doubt he'll start screaming about NiGHTS. I'm sure he'll have his mouth and hands full with Manhunt 2 instead.

Then again, I find it odd that we haven't heard from him yet about that one. He didn't speak up about the AO rating and he hasn't been screaming about the subsequent re-rating and imminent release. It could be that he's given up or that the news sites have stopped reporting about what he says. Either way, it's a positive sign.

Actually, I think he's up-in-arms about the re-rating already. He's convinced it's a conspiracy between Take2 and the ESRB since they refused to say what was changed to allow the lower rating. I don't remember where I read about it, though. I would assume GameSpot or GamePolitics.

You're right.

Thing is, I was only looking at Gamespot and they haven't mentioned him since the Take Two settlement. GamePolitics, however, has all the goods on how Thompson is calling conspiracy on the ESRB. Still, it looks like he has bigger worries.

If there's a charismatic anti-gaming demagogue out there, (s)he would've shown up and supplanted Jack-ass Thomspon long ago. I'm not saying there won't be someone like that in the future, I'm just saying that (s)he currently does not exist.

God forbid, should someone like that make it to office, I can easily see the gaming industry being ruined and set back for years. Or, worst-case scenario is that video games are banned, or considered illegal and are gathered up. I know its not likely with the 1st Amendment hanging around, but people can do some seemingly impossible things if they just put enough effort and money into it. <_<

Man, I'm going to nightmares about this one....

Needless to say, I'm sure that most everyone here would gladly keep their 'illegal contraband' and hide it from the fuzz. Which is all the more reason to start to establish the Nation of Gaming. If we can rally effective support, we can stop this disgusting show of distaste towards our games.

I am also anti-social. But thats not the point. Anyway...Jack Thompson is an guy that just loves to try to get games banned because of the content in them. Like Bully for example, before it came out he thought it was just another beat em up blood bath by Rockstar and paraded that fact...

But the story of Bully was..."Your new to college and some of the guys are picking on you...Get revenge". That's about it. You also have to go to your classes and other things and you get detention and bad grades if you don't do good. Jack hasn't touched it since...

P.S. Bully comes out for Wii this Christmas.

See, that's why I doubt he'd go after JoD... there's no violence or anything "morally wrong" about it, and outside of fandom it's not getting attention in the way Manhunt and Bully got.

If someone told him that NiGHTS looks gay or that sweet dream creatures can be sucked into the void by the main character, he'd be on the game like white on rice.

I saw him making a comment about internet and game addiction (back when the health board or whatever was trying to decide if it was a viable mental disorder). Um.. basically it was just a bunch of blabbering nonsense spouted by someone who knows nothing of the subject. Really, the best way to fight against something is to get all the information you can, not stand up and look like a moron cause you have no idea what you're talking about.

Hitler once said that people swallow lies easily, provided the lies are big enough.

That's really what this is all about. It's about using half-truths, base emotions and uncertain research to create a whopper so huge that no one will call him on it. Mind you, Thompson is a lawyer (for now), so he's a professional at this.

Basically, its just him putting a spin on the issues to make video games look harmful to society.

But, can anyone really come up with an honest example of video games causing something harmful to and society? I for one can't. I know that many people say that people who caused school shootings or murders, etc, played shooting games and the like, but typically those people are already mentally unstable, with such games only perhaps giving a way to plan out such an attack. Besides, those types of gamers make up only maybe .01% of the gamer population. There are far more criminal acts caused by such factors as racial tension, anger, and poverty than can be attributed to video games.

Search on wikipedia 'Ethnic Cleansing'.

Video games made for simulating and preparing something to hurt people, like a video game that trains terrorist, is the only thing I could possibly think of besides that piece of sh!t.

And let's not forget that there are other crimes out there, not just murder, rape, theft and drug dealing.

What about money laundering? Bribery and corruption? What about slavery?

With all this crap going around, with the shape our country is in, you'd have to be a total nutcase to think that video games are the biggest thing to worry about right now.

Its funny how politicians are always focused on things that make little difference in life, i.e. video games, when there are far worse problems that need to be dealt with.

ah yes... good 'ol Jack Thompson... the bane of the gaming community... I wrote a speech that included his dumbass in it XD, and some of you mentioned stuff I mentioned in the speech X3

How people that are already cuckoo for coco puffs are the ones that let video games (and any other form of media) govern their lives, and how there are much more rampant and critical things to worry about o_O.

Also one example I used was, Alot of games come from Japan, yet Japan is one of the countries with the LOWEST crime rates. Why? Cause they pay attention what's IMPORTANT!! LoL Like... zero tolerance gun laws and stuff X3.

I know that this thread is about Mr. Thompson, but I feel I have to comment on this. Zero tolerance gun laws don't really stop crime. Since they are criminals, then I don't think they would have a problem illegally obtaining firearms. Just look at Britain. They enacted serious gun laws, and yet their crime rate hasn't really changed, and in fact has increased. So when people say that gun laws stop crime, I have a problem with that. Besides, I like knowing that I have a right to use a gun, unlike many people in the world, where there is less freedom.

Actually, if I might add, Japan is also very restricted with their military due to World War II. *gasp*

As for crime rates, I wouldn't be surprised if Crime Rate in Japan rising has video games play a part. Not at all. It probably isn't, but if it is, I'm not gonna be surprised...

And, guns ARE tolerated in Japan. Hunting Rifles, for instance, are allowed to be sold, if registered with the police.

Japan is very strict with their rules, but, that doesn't mean crime rate is non-existent...

On a side note, I WOULD NOT want to go on a Japanese game show.: T-T

I agree with you with that 100% :3.

Don't get me wrong, I ain't got nothin' against Japan, and I do indeed like Japan as well. I don't have anything against someone liking Japan, until they start seemingly attack my own country and telling me how Japan is better. I'm sorry, but I needed to just blurt that out. It's nationalism, pals, and it's also what started the World Wars.

Alright, I'm done talking.
