I don't think there ever was a game that really made me feel so much love as NiGHTS. Other classics like Sonic, Burning Rangers, Shining Force 2 and 3 are still from time to time on my mind, but it has never been anything close to how it was with NiGHTS. It was an experience that would last through the day and the NiGHTS... you could literally take him to bed with you in your mind and I remember that so many years ago I always made up stories with him and me before going to sleep. That one sentence is still a set piece of words in my mind, rolling at the ease of practice... 'and NiGHTS looked smiling at me...' and I would see that tender mystical and magical face of his. I still get all giddy about it.
Anyway, Beyond the Window was completed about a year ago after 6 months of concept development, to storyboarding and finally animating. Afterwards, things moved on so fast (I worked in Brussels on a feature film, which is amasing! go see Brendan and the Secret of Kells in 2008!) that I never had the chance to really enjoy any of it, save for the magical moment of it being shown at the Holland Animation Festival on the big screen. Soon it will also be screened at another festival in Holland and even one in Finland. It really feels exciting to be able to show it to even more people. There nothing like the experience of emerging others in a piece of your mind. You get good comments, you get bad comments, but really... it's all about showing something very special and close to your heart to others and like NiGHTS take them on a ride through a whole new or very familiar world they might have forgotten or never had a chance to look at. That's the real rewarding part of it. I'm so glad I found you guys!
I'm ready to pick up right where I left off with NiGHTS
So, some little specs about me:
I'm a 24 years old fangirl of old games, old animated series and also of shounen ai and yaoi I'm not one for mixing the old interests with the new ones as those old things are really cherished childhood dreams for me which I hold very dear. I like singing musicals, dancing tai chi-esque on rythmic music and I can appreciate heavy metal just as much as any sweet wiccan music and I basically love anything that has deep or special meaning to it. I guess you can call me a sensitive soul. I can sit crying about one sentence in a song or poem for hours and be swept up in the air with love for a special glimpse of a cherished character. I can suddenly break out in laughter in public when thinking up a new twist on a story and generally scare the hell out of fellow train travellers when I'm drawing and not noticing that I do all the expressions in real life too. I was one of those lost souls crying happy tears for the fake NiGHTS 2 trailer on youtube months ago, until finding out after initial joy that it sadly was fake. Luckily it wasn't a long wait to hear that even so, there still would be a NiGHTS 2. And so steadily rumours about JoD and my dear NiGHTS slipped back into my life.
I'm also still a big Elfquest fan and am lucky to know mister Pini in person because of an award I won in around 2000. Art, comics, books, games and animations have always played a big part in my life. No doubt they will continue to do so in the future as I see myself as a storyteller. And with that I feel truly blessed to be able to do all the things I love, creating, imagining and drawing for 'real' when I graduate next year.
I think that paints a pretty accurate picture of at least the inner spirit so, thanks for being here and reading it! If you haven't seen Beyond the Window you, you should definately give it a go at my youtube channel. I'll be seeing you all around here whenever times permits! I've got so much catching up to do.

:oeh, fanmagnet: nice! *clunk*
I just found this on the livejournal of one of my friends... amazing coincidence? I think not. I'm sure I'll sleep soundly tonight with these lyrics in my mind: dreams to dream by fivel (I have yet to listen to it!) I mean, I've just picked up NiGHTS again and whamma, he's back into my life in full! (as to not clog the topic you can read it here)

But seriously.. You should have tryed out the Panzer Dragoon series, Skies of Arcadia or Shenmue as well, they are some other games I think you'd have really enjoyed.

I never thought of the movie that way....Hey, great work you did! I think Sonic Team would be proud to know they had a hand in inspiring the work. It would be a quite beautiful use of NiGHTS as a character. Like, at the end when the jester leaves, it could even have been Wizeman calling NiGHTS back. Meaning that this was during NiGHTS's rebellion.

@sharky: lol I finally got proposed! My mum will be so happy
I did, I only mentioned the old classics as somehow those others fall under a younger category for me, as I was much more fangirling then and less the innocent soul I was back then, so I guess they weren't on my mind when writing it. (check my profile, you'll find them mentioned there)
When I saw your Azal avatar I was like d'oh! How could I have missed mentioning Panzer Dragoon Saga which has had a great influence on my personal fantasy world Ocreana. I fell in love with so many of the characters back then.. Paet, Arwen and even Lord Craymen... I was a sucker for brooding, misunderstood characters. And Azel... she was such a great character.... ahh. Do you know this site?
@Kbooki: nope, I'm a saggitarius but I recently found out that there is a 13th starsign which isn't an official part of the zodiac, but does have the sun pass in it. It's called snake-carrier in dutch and happens right around my birthday on the 10th of december. So I'm not sure if there are any descriptions of that
@submas: I'd like that. Would be curious to know what they think about it, and if I can convince them to do an animated series of NiGHTS or something like Burning Rangers.
I'm working on a local comic artist to turn her comic into an animated movie right now, not sure if I can succeed, feels like she's lost a bit of heart, but I've got some classmates helping me out with it. It'd be a real cool children's animation involving a little princess from a world where the long line of kings have always ordered the lamps and candles to shine day and night because the royals are absolutely *not* afraid of the dark, but wouldn't want their precious people to be scared. Because of it, the people have never seen the night sky and the moon and the stars and everyone believes their planet Eureka is the only thing in the universe. When princess Aster escapes from her boring birthday party by means of a magical and dusty old telescope and the help of a friendly out of work astronomer, she starts to learn about the universe and sets out the catch a star and proof to her father that the universe exists.
It's a lovely children's story from a couple of years ago, and I really hope she will make it.
And thanks again for all your appreciation! It's much welcomed!

Ah, great match then!
Many of my friends are winter and autumn children. I once bought this book about personality discriptions by the date of your birth. Scary to see that so many of me and my friends' descriptions were pretty spot on. Sometimes it would be off, but most of the times we could really recognize ourselves in the descriptions on that specific day, and in no other day things like that interest me, I'm curious to know how stuff like that works.
