heh, I'll admit I was doing that too... XD Best I can figure is that it used the nunchuck and remote. You use the remote like a wand to aim NiGHTS up and down while the analog stick decides which direction you're going... either that or it's played with just a remote where up and down point NiGHTS and holding the remote closer and further away from the TV decide direction... or A or B for forward and back... too much time on me hands~ XD
Time'll tell though... I've only really used horizontal controls in Excite Trucks as I've barely played Sonic, so I can't judge... I don't feel they're very compatible though.

EDIT: ...my apologies for dragging this into controler discussion territory.

@Sairus.: That's how I'm thinking it'll be played :3.

Hmm... interesting 8D! Looks like Helen and Will each have their own stories, with the other acting as a 'supporting character'. Kinda like the different sides and stories in SA1 and SA2?

I'm guessing, when both stories are done, there'll be final story mode (Like 'Supersonic' and 'Last' in SA1 and SA2), where both team up? Meh....

Well, if it's playable on the show floor, all we have to do is wait for IGN, Gamespot, or someone else to put up a story on how it's played.

Hey, this is off topic, but did anyone else notice that Tomoko Sasaki is doing some music for Super Smash Bros. Brawl? The only game listed in his resume is NiGHTS. Maybe NiGHTS could appear in Brawl as an Assist Trophy or something?

I think I heard about that a little while ago :3.

As for controls, I'm thinking NiGHTS is/follows the pointer.

I hope not. If the emphasis is on feeling like you are immersed in the flight aspect, (Which the Trailer seems to confirm) I don't think that pointing at the screen is very immersive. All we can do is wait. I'm pretty sure something will show up on G4/Gamespot/IGN.

As for controls, I'm thinking NiGHTS is/follows the pointer.

For the directly behind parts I'd agree. They'll play something like the twilight vultures section from Zelda... but for the regular game I don't think that'd be plausable. If it was just point and follow it'd be impossible to do paraloops for instance, or at least impossible to do them as demonstrated in the trailer.

Also, Crono, my thanks. Sai is much amused! XD

That as well (I'm mixed between yours and Sai's ideas :) ).

I'm hoping it's more than that. Unless the wii mote isn't too sensitive to the angle that you're pointing, I don't really see how anyone could perform paraloops. The camera isn't directly behind NiGHTS for what seems to be most of the time, and you'd constantly have to be pointing right if I understand what you mean by pointer.

The whole pointer thing was done to a similar effect in Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz, in the credits you had a monkey who'd knd of follow the pointer, but it was more like it was flying, it also left behind a trail of stars.

Seriously, finish a world in that game and play the credits, the scheme would work for NiGHTS. It would work very well indeed.

You really think so? (I wouldn't know, I don't have Bannana Blitz) How would NiGHTS know when to scroll across the mare? Besides, the camera focuses on NiGHTS in the trailor. 'Tis a conundrum indeed.

I have no idea what you guys are talking about, but the game is on rails. If banana blitz was a free roaming three demensional flight simulation than it couldn't work the same way for NiGHTS. You'd pretty much just be pointing to the right at varying angles.

The Banana Blitz credits were a 2D plain, where you could navigate a NiGHTSish flying monkey ball around things, apply that to a NiGHTS style level and you're on to a winner.

That could work IF you used the nunchuck or the D-pad for left and right movement, because with this interface, the game would otherwise have to automatically scroll to move!

one thing I might point out from watching the gameplay vid, the motion is too jaggy to be motion controlled... that's obviously being done with an analog stick. but then again they did promise to have 2 control schemes, so the motion control is still up in the air.

It wouldn't HAVE to autoscroll to use following the pointer as the navigation. It could be done that NiGHTS moves faster the further away from him the pointer is. If you pointed right at him he'd stop or hardly move at all, if it was a little to the right he'd move right at a slower speed and if it was all the way to the right he'd go as fast as he could.

Almost like an analogue stick, in fact, just using the position on the screen.

To me, I would feel better to have some substance in my hand, rather then wave it all around. I guess I'm just retro that way... ^_^
