Today, Sonic the Hedgehog turns 19 years old! It's been mostly good, I must say. Today, I'm going to celebrate by playing all the good Sonic games I have. What are you gonna do? Discuss the whole occasion here!

Well I could play sonic games, but I play everyday anyway.
It could be nice to have some friends with. A big Sonic party. Lol

Yay Sonic! Although my first game was Sonic 2 and I didn't own my own Genesis until after Sonic & Knuckles came out...
It's really weird to think of how little of Sonic's career has been made up of good games. 1991-1994 are the "classic" period, then there was a long gap with B-titles like Sonic 3D Blast and Sonic R. Sonic Adventure was great, heralded as a "return of Sonic" in 1999, five years since the previous TRUE Sonic game. After that, it's been downhill IMO.
If you count 1991-1999 as a solid time period of Sonic's best years, it's still only 8 years. Less than half of his time around. The handheld games go against this trend, but they're secondary. IDK, this weirds me out because when I got into Sonic, he was THE COOLEST and the 90s seemed to go on forever...

I played Sonic 1 yesterday and after obsessively reading all the news about Sonic Colors and Sonic 4 I'm burned out of anything Sonic right now. I'll say a simple "Happy Birthday" and leave it at that.

Rocky Horror, Bruce Campbell, one of my best friends, and Sonic have all had birthdays in a row. How cool is that?
The problem with Sonic now isn't his late 90s issue of not having any real games to speak of so much as becoming a parody of himself. 90s hip and edgy will not always be cool, so Sonic now seems really, really dated. That's probably why he older games have such universal appeal- there's no dialogue, just body language to show that he's bored waiting. It's a kind of generic "I'm to cool for my blue quills" thing. Now, the shows, even the beloved SatAM, have a sort of campy quality to them, because it's 90s cool taken to the extreme. That's why I think Sonic 4 will work. There's no camp value forced upon Sonic.
He had ATTITUDE! He was FAST! He fought fat old guys in ROBOTS! And we loved every second of it.IDK, this weirds me out because when I got into Sonic, he was THE COOLEST and the 90s seemed to go on forever...
