Okay, I had this idea as something for fun. Everybody knows the Sonic franchises has one of the most ridiculously inflated character casts in gaming. Well, here is your chance to talk about one of them. Pick one character from the Sonic games, any character you like, rate them on a scale of 1 to 10 (ten being best) and explain why you gave them the score you did. Maybe you'll praise a character you like or bash one you hate. Whatever it is, it's your call. Have fun!

I feel like certain characters that are currently pointless could be improved, like Shadow and Rouge. Currently basic knockoffs of Sonic and Knuckles, they could be re-engineered to play more uniquely. Rouge, in the way she could perhaps fly manually, plus hang on ceilings, in effect having properties of Tails and Knuckles without mimicking anyone specifically. Shadow, on the other hand, is rooted in Chaos Control; instead of being stupid and giving him a dumbass gun, focus on the powers of Chaos Control. He could throw a projectile, I guess, but let it just be an energy shot, not an idiotic pistol. Teleportation, time manipulation, that sort of stuff should be his focus.

I guess what I'm saying is, Rouge and Shadow could go from being like, a 4 to like, an 8 on the character worthiness scale with some tweaking.

Indeed, I never tire of ranting about Sonic's current state of affairs. By the way, is anyone at all who worked on Sonic in 1991 still there? I feel like when people compare Sonic with Mario's titles nowadays, one thing to keep in mind is Mario still has his papa Miyamoto by his side. Sonic, not so much.

I choose to start with...*drumroll*...ROUGE!

I love Rouge. I may be her only fan, but I give her a....9/10!

She's cool. She's a smart woman who knows what she wants and how to get it. No damsel in distress here. While she appears ditzy, Rouge can and will use her looks to get to her goal. She's intellegent (how else could she break into Robotnik's bases), and technically a hero (she works for the government and all). Her only downside is her new 4K!ds voice. She sounds like an 80 year old man. Some say she acts trampy. How so? Sure she wears a garish outfit, but it fits her personality. Plus, how are the naked guys not tramps?

Also, I love her theme song, "Fly in the Freedom"

Nope, your not alone... I too love Rouge... she's manipulative and ranks among the top double agents in my book (Revolver Ocelot is the top)

'Nother Rouge fan right here. She's my favorite female character, with Blaze as a close second.
But, that's not who I'm going to talk about.

The one character I'll give a 10 of 10 is E-102 Gamma. Not only was he one of Eggman's robots, he was one of Sonic's allies without being best buds with Sonic. He destroyed his "siblings" without a second thought, but unlike Omega, he didn't go on some bezerker rampage and try and kill Eggman. He had the bird inside of him, so his destruction wasn't all sorrow, which is more than can be said for any other character in the franchise. And he's one of the few characters to only be in a single Sonic game; unfortunately, he's one of the few I wouldn't mind seeing back. But he's also the only Sonic character they've "killed" off that actually stayed dead (Emerl doesn't count, since he disappeared, and we don't know what happened to him.) Oh, and his theme song by Fumie Kumatani? Absolutely brilliant. You don't need words (at least I don't think there's any lyrics) to give it the kind of feeling that song had.

Omochao, on the other hand, needs to be, as Omega seems so fond of saying, "Erradicated." Horrible, aweul, disgusting, devil-spawn, creature of the deep. Needless to say, I give him a negative infinity of 10. Not only is his voice (at least the American voice. I turned it to Japanese, and voiala- instantly cute!) annoying as hell, the design of his is sure to send anyone straight to Nightmare, (maybe Omochao should take up a contract with Wizeman?) and we musn't forget how up-in-your-face he got in Sonic Heroes. The only fun thing you could do with Omochao was attack him in SA2, and even then you had to be pretty skilled with the character, especially Tails and Eggman, because you had to set the Omochao off, then shoot him in mid-circling. The only Sonic characters anywhere near as annoying as Omochao are Charmy, Marine, and Chip, and even those three together wouldn't hold a candle agaisnt Omochao. (And that's saying something, because I REALLY hate Marine. Charmy's second to her, with Chip as a close third.)

Gamma's story was even deeper than that...

You may recall that Gamma described destroying the other E-series robots as "rescuing" them. What Gamma was really doing was freeing the flickies imprisoned inside of them. Those flickies were family members of the one Amy has with her most of the game.

It was kind of funny when they did the fight between Gamma and Beta in Sonic X, as Gamma's real objective was completely lost on Amy.

There's this one time in Crazy Gadget where Omochao tells you that you can defeat enemies with shields by attacking their feet. I think he's trying to convince you to not fling him at them.

Praise or attack? What mood am i in today? Let's go with 'attack' (oh, come now. You didn't see this coming?)

Marine.

Let's just get this over and done with. She's pointless. She's annoying. I'm all for having a Sonic Character with the Australian thang going on but when every single line becomes Australian Slang that probably only Australians will get half the time then...really...what's the point? She's just annoying by all means.
I swear, play the game and you'll see even Sonic and Tails can't believe they've run into this one.

And her character design is very 'round'. I mean, just look at that head. It's a circle with two...weird things popping out of the back that are (i'm guessing) meant to represent pony-tails? Or something? It's just a shabby character design that takes the piss and really didn't need to be there.

Marine the Raccoon, not even good enough for furry porn.

Get her outta here!

I like the Tals Doll(and no, he's not forcing/paying me to say that).

On a scale, I'd rate him around 8-or-9ish.

He's very creepy, and those tales don't help my Tailsomnia much either(a word I made up for fearing the Tails Doll). However, in Sonic R, he's quite fast and can beat Super Sonic in a race. So, I like him on the whole.

First off, for myself practically anything after SA2 I'm not 100% down with.
Anyway, I will pick
-drum roll-

Spoiler

a.) Adorable A-Life
B.) Adorable Plot Device
C.) Unique gameplay and breeding system
D.) Loved by all

10/10. Best sonic character in existance.

Since I can't really pass judgement on characters that I haven't seen yet (Silver, Blaze, and Marine the one who everyone seems to hate), I guess I'll have to go with Shadow the Hedgehog (I'll be going off of what I see in SA2 and SH of course).

I believe that Shadow is a pretty cool character... he's manipulative, determined, emotionally strong, sharp, out for his own, confident in his own abilities, and aloof. It is also an added bonus that he, along with Knuckles and Metal Sonic, is one of the few who can really give Sonic an actual challenge (Robotnick/Eggman doesn't count since he uses machines rather than natural ability). Unfortunately... his character started taking a severe and unnecessary beating from Shadow the Hedgehog and onward. However, like the series, I believe that Shadow can be saved with better writing and his old voice actor (not Griffith-bashing, he's just not right for the job).

My rating for Shadow: 7/10

He would have got a 10 like E-102 Gamma, but he was brought back and forced to live as a Uchiha-Sasuke-without-a-purpose as a result of the abomination that was named after him. Sorry if any of this sounds confusing.

The characters I like the most, are classic Sonic (pre-Sonic Heroes) and Tails. Sonic, albeit did not show much of his personality in the 16-bit games, was always admirable. And who didn't like Jaleel White voicing him in AoStH? Just as a young kid, I always looked up to Sonic as being a positive role model (Sonic Sez!). Then, things took a turn for the worst when Sonic Heroes came out. Abnormally cheesy lines, trying to make Sonic even more cool than when he already was??! SEGA has ruined his rep since Heroes, and now they need to make a strong comeback. Over and all, Sonic is definitely a 10/10 IMO.

I always thought of Tails as a loyal friend who nevers leaves Sonic's side. Even though he does struggle with his low self-esteem, he is able to shine at some points during the series (notably, SA2B). One thing I hate: the voice actors for Tails since Sonic Heroes. They have to find a better voice actor than the person right now who makes Tails sound like he has a cold in every game. Rating: 10/10 (bias, he's my favorite Sonic character lol)

I rate Blaze the Cat 8/10. Why? well unlike most of the female Sonic cast she does not act cute (Cream) annoying (Amy) or walk around acting like some cheap hooker (Rouge) she seems to have head head screwed on the right way and I think IMO a good addtion to the series.

I'm going to rate a relitivly new character: Chip

Chip got a good first impression with me, thanks to his appearance in "Night of the Werehog". It was amusing to see him frightened.

I liked him at first in Unleashed, he seemed... unobtrusive. That was until you find out his back story. It's some really dumb serious business from nowhere.

negative ten out of ten.

I'm insulted :P

I think I'll bash...shadow!

He started out mediocre, a cool anti-sonic (although, I thought that that was Knuxie's job, but he somehow become Sonic's buddy), but he quickly went down hill. His Death at the end of SA2 was gallant and amazing, making him a really awsome character. One you could look up to. Flawed, yes (he helped Robotnik) but Shadow did it for a good reason, which redeemed him. The "leap of faith" redeemed him even more. But the came the game. Woah- Shadow's a robot?! Created by aliens?! HUH?! <_<

That game confused me in many ways. I couldn't stand it. Plus, the calm, collected shadow is now the biggest mental case/alzheimer's patient in the video game world?! aaaahhhhh!!
The whole memory loss thing continued into Sonic Heroes, and his constant "Who am I?" grew irritating very quickly. Of course, Shadow is part cat, and is revived for every game he's in. Which, might I add, is all of them.

I rate him.....1/10. He was cool at first.
In all, Shadow is like Brittany Spears- once admirable and popular, but now crazy and disliked by most.

I think I'll pick on our old pal from '94, Knucklehead!

I generally like him on the whole, but GOSH why did he have to sound so angry in '06! In the '90s, his gameplay was good, and in the third NiGHTS comic, the creators said that the flight engine was based off of Knuckles' glide. So, if you think about it, Knux is kinda like NiGHTS's prototype. Then came Sonic Heroes. I'm not saying the game's not good, but WHY couldn't Knux just glide on his own?! Jeez! Then, lo and behold, the series started to suck even MORE! Out came the crap we know as Shadow the hedgehog. Not only is it kind of an RPG ripoff*the many plots, chose your path, etc.*, BUT WTF!? WHY does Shadow constantly repeat stuff?? And since when does Knuckles use Homing Attack?!

My Rating:

GenesisKnux: 9/10
NewKnux: 2/10

I'm pretty sure I'm in the minority but I'll rate Amy...

Amy gets 10/10! Pretty much the only Sonic character with a moe-factor to speak of.

She is such a fun character. She is annoying like nothing else, Sonic can barely tolerate her, cute and sugary sweet like a frosting-coated J-pop idol, and AFAIK she has only really played an important role plot-wise in the first Sonic Adventure (not including being kidnapped in Sonic CD).
She has the most definite goal of all the characters (next to Knuckles guarding Angel Island) in her desire to be loved by Sonic. But everyone knows it will never happen and her pathetic romantic failures remind me of my own ineptitude in a lighthearted manner. But she never gets depressed no matter how bad things go for her! The closest she'll come is getting angry and proceeding to pull a giant mallet out of hammerspace and wacking things.

I also liked the recent "Rosy the Rascal" interpretation in Sonic comics but it would have been better if they played her seriously/tragic instead of wacky comedy.

I love Amy, and I agree 100%! Rouge, Amy, and Cream are great. In fact, I was humming "My Sweet Passion" as I was reading the topic, and then I come to Amy!

I'll now rate Cream...10/10! She's cute, smart, polite, and she has a point. She's the Tails to Amy's Sonic, and as Amy becomes more powerful and independent, Cream is a natural next step as a sidekick. She also has a significance in the plot of Sonic Advance and Sonic Heroes, but she is not in your face everywhere. Her extreme politeness (Everyone is "Mr." or "Miss") and innocence are refreshing with moody Knuckles and "too cool for schoo- D@#%! Maria!" Shadow. She has taken Tail's role as the adorable sidekick- since Sonic Adventure, Tails has really grown independent of Sonic and made a name for himself as an inventor. Also, Cream is the voice of sanity- Sonic is so hyper and Amy is so lovesick that when they're a group, nothing gets done. Cream can calm everyone down and not worry about being "cool" or "evil" or anything else. Finally, in a wprld of sad videogames, it's nice to have a little bunny loved by her family and friends. Sure she's saccharine and her voice can be somewhat grating, but you know you love her deep inside! And just say "Cream the bunny" out load. :)

Silver the Hedgeho 1/10

Completely unnecessary. Ugly character design. Annoying atmosphere about him. The only thing good about his creation was his theme song in Sonic 06.

Now THAT'S an insult! Saying Silver's character design was ugly is like saying NiGHTS's character design was ugly*if you notice how similar they look*!

My rating for Silv: 8/10

As I've said before, he and NiGHTS look similar and their personalities are even similar! They both have those horns/spikes in the back of their head and they're both incredibly justified and willing to protect what they believe is right!

Silver's theme was awesomesauce, his voice suited him, he was even original! Those of you who say Silver's a Sonic recolor, you must be blind. The only problem I have is his gameplay sometimes and the fact that his head looks like a potleaf.

Silver was ORIGINAL, he was COOL*way past I might add*, he was AWESOME, AND HE SHOULD GET HIS OWN GAME! *brick'd by angry mob of Silver haters* WHAT?! I mean, Tails, Knuckles, and Shadow got their own games, EVEN EGGMAN*a poor rip-off of tetris, might I add*! But what does Silver get? Zippo, zilch, doodly-squat, nada, nothing. Am I done making my point?!

You've made your point but I'm not convinced. Still hate him. I've been told I'm stubborn like that haha. I will truthfully say that I thought he was okay back when I first saw him and didn't know he was a young hedgehog. I thought he was an old guy and I thought it was cool they were putting an old hedgehog in the game. As for him looking like NiGHTS I just don't see it.

Silver... Oh man, there's a hard character to rate.

As he is, He's tied inexorably to the sci-fi bullcrap that makes the stories so cringe worthy. So that's not working for him.

His design has some good ideas, but it looks so awkward. The two large quills, the ones cantilevered off the back of his head, just seem way too big, and in spite of it, still can't seem to fill the space they're supposed to. His design being a problem is troubling, especially when the ideas they had going in were so good:
Posted Image
Posted Image

It's not clear what the second image is. It could either be a Super form, or a completely different image for the character. The most notable thing about the first image is that Silver's big quills are smaller, but just as wide, and his smaller quills tighten more. He's also doesn't have the Napoleon Dynamite boots.

I don't know what to make of his voice. His voice is a tad winy, and it seriously doesn't fit someone from such a dystopian future. It's not a bad voice, but still. I guess the real problem is that he's a fourteen-ish year old cartoon hedgehog from a dystopian future where the earth's crust seems to have given way to the mantel, so they're going to have a hard time getting anything to work.

Wow that first one is definitely what I'd rather see. I think I was a bit too bias on Silver. I don't really know the character like that. I just don't like seeing him because it just feels awkward looking at him.

Totally forgot about Elise. Her presence in the series really makes me wish that the only female human of importance in Sonic was Maria and she's dead so you know she won't be trying to shag up with furballs. I really don't think we'll be seeing Elise anymore though so that's a good thing.

well at the beggining I though that he was some kind of Omocha sustitute, but fortunately he's not the kind of character who bothers you every 5 minutes in-game, and he's quite funny, in fact, without him the game would be boring and dead serious, I dunno why so much people hate him

and when I noticed about his past...man I almost freaked out to see his true form xDDD

DO YOU WANT SOME CHOCOLATE? Chip gets 8/10

Now to rate*drum roll*:.............SONIC!

I'm surprised no one else has...

My vote: 9.99999999999999999999999999999999999999999/10

Best character*duh, he's the star!* and my favorite. Sure, his voice is off nowadays*with a pretty good comeback in Unleashed* and yeah, he seems a bit different, but isn't that what all people do as they get older? He's still as fast and radicool as ever!

Nowadays, people simply recognize Sonic for all the NEGATIVE things. Some positive comments are that not only is he still cool, but he's still as fast as ever.

My ONLY problem is that Sonic hates crying, right? Then WHY does he cry in Sonic X*at the end of Ep. 52*?

Sonic also crys in the classic SatAM series?
They just save it for emotionally climactic moments. Which the video games never have.

Besides, no matter how much someone claims they "hate crying" everyone is going to be doing it at some time or another.

He does? If he does cry, I don't remember it.

Thank you for liking Sonic. Sonic "fans" who hate him annoy me, even though I admit to not liking recent games.

Now, I shall rate Big!

5/10

He gets points for being new, but he contributes nothing to the story of either game that he's in. His design is nice, but his levels in SA are incredibly tedious, and his appearence in Sonic Heroes seems like almost an afterthought. There's so much potential for a character that lives in the jungle and isn't moody like Knuckles, but they Sega made him much too dull. If he actually had an emotional attachment to the people playing the game and was less than just a reason for Froggy's exsistence, I'd like him more.

He gets 3 points for a cool design and 2 for potential, but he looses points for being uninteresting and about as fun as a sugar cube. Sure, you could probably do something enjoyable with a sugar cube by itself, but it's purpose in tea is just a means to an end. Big could do interesting things on his own (other than fishing), but in the basic plots of SA and Heroes, he's just kind of there.

Big the Cat creeps me out because it is really strange to have an apparently retarded character in the universe? And it is creepy to have him hanging out with Cream and Amy in Sonic Heroes.

He does? If he does cry, I don't remember it.

I'll admit it's pretty easily to forget. However there were rumors that Sega forbid Dic from letting Sonic cry ever again because of it (these rumors were untrue). The episode was "Ultra Sonic" - about 1:40 into this video.

In one of the episodes they find out that the power rings can restore a robotized person's mind and Sonic used it on his uncle chuck but at the end of the episode they found out that it was only temporary and Bunny and Sally had to comfort him on the monorail ride back.

I gotta agree, cat who wants to save pet frog by fishing subplot was really boring. He'd have one or two enemis in his stage and they weren't aggressive or mobile.

Oh, right! I remember!

Doesn't he also cry in part one of Ultra Sonic*out of joy* and again in the episode where they try their de-roboticizer on Uncle Chuck?

EDIT: Now I will rate:...........Shadow The Hedgehog!

8/10

He was awesome at first, but in Heroes and Shadow The Game, he constantly repeated stuff WAY too often. In 06, at least he didn't act all emo like in the game. He was just really mysterious, like his SA2 counterpart.

His voice originally led me to believe he was British, but then Jason Griffith came along, and made Shad sound less British. He's generally a darker Sonic with a much better vocabulary.

"You never cease to surprise me, blue hedgehog..."
-Shadow the Hedgehog in SA2
"Even if I'm not real, I'm still the Ultimate Lifeform, SHADOW THE HEDGEHOG!"
-Shadow the Hedgehog in Sonic Heroes
"THIS IS WHO I AM!"
-Shadow the Hedgehog in his own game
"Certainly, it might have been possible..........if he were still alive...."
-Shadow the Hedgehog in Sonic 06
News just in! Shadow sneezed on Sonic and now he will catch--the emo....

Shadow: The what?
Sonic: THE EMO! *screaming*WHAAAAAAA-HAHA-HAAAAAAAA!!!
Shadow:.......Tch. I don't have time for--
Sonic: *runs Shad over* AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!
