DARiA's drawings album

Well, due to my feeling of NiGHTS-fanart approaching, I'd open a topic for my pictures, 'kay? ^-^
This is the first finished piece I've made (finished some minutes ago). Kind of a dreamscape, with clouds floating underneath you feet and blooming fields spreading above your head. Some nice place to rest, lie down on the fluffy cloud and listen to the little cloud chimes...
Some place I'd like to visit to relax.
It's not drawn or colored as good as I wish it should be, but is all I can do with the abilities of mine... Thought I'm quite proud of it =3
Any critique or comments highly appreciated!
FunFact: I was drawing the sketch of the pic during my lessons today, and my classmates were like: "Daria, WHAT is it?", "Where is the sky? THIS the sky, below the ground?", "What kind of a grass growind there exactly? Did you smoke it?", "Ha-ha, a visions of a drug addict?". Oh yeah, I love my classmates so much that I wanna beat them up from time to time...
[EDIT] - 06.08.2007
Well, it's been a while!
Glad to be back again with a new drawing.
Nothing much I have to say about this... It just that I suddenly came to a thought: "Hey, I have to draw Clariss!", and so I did. She's in a chibi form, as you can easily tell. That's all because I'm not skilled enough to draw proper human anatomically correct...
I also changed her usual design, because I felt like this. I kept the original color scheme, though.

[EDIT] - 09.08.2007 - editing it again, by replacing the links and cutting out my comments, since they're wickedly long
I should say that today's update owes Icachan and animejosse a lot ^-^

Now about the lovely draw you have here... I've been wondering how exactly have you done that. Was it digitalized or very well painted ? Well, it looks great anyways. And I love the "floating" ground and the solid sky. Some sweet dreamscape that I'de love to discover too. I need relaxing places.
Well, I'de certainly love to see more, dreamscapes or even NiGHTS fanart. I bet you'de do great. I'll be waiting.

Sketch is done in pencil, then scanned and colored digitally in Photoshop CS (digital coloring is the only one I can do more or less fine, I'm suck at traditional coloring).
Personally, I love only the cloudy sky in this picture. Somehow I was able to make it almost as I wanted - soft and blurry. And maybe the foliage came out quite nice. I don't like how fields came out, I've meesed them up pretty much. Guess it was bad idea to add golden flowers, they look quite out of place >.<
EDIT
To avoid double-posting, I'm editing the message
Well, LET YOUR EYES GET BURNED! XD Sorry. I've drew this maren today at school, and decided to scan and color it. Color scheme is quite random and a little bit gaudy - though I've tried to lessen the difference between colors by adding some texture all over the clothes...
Yep, I'm aware that marens are originally genderless, but I made this one more feminine on purpose
Note: it's just a random fanmaren. 'Cause when I'm join' a fandom, I'm quite likely to make one-two... dozens of new charas, just for pictures and desing.
Nothing quite special, I'd say

And yes, I'm back to haunt your artwork topic with my lame french and twisted talk. Poor you.
But you really did some sweet maren. I read the post some time ago, but I wasn't able to see the draw. Good to know that now I can. :3 But you colored it really well (again). The texture you used in the oufit is great and I like how you did the outline. It really is pretty.
I'll be saying it again, I'm waiting for more artwork. Or maybe you posted somewhere else and I seem to have missed it... Poor me, this time.

First of all, my apologize to those who might expect my art to be uploaded... Sorry, I'm very sorry, the graduating and exams and stuff, busybusybusy...
Anyway, I've brought some scrap with me after all... Really bad one, and I mean it! I've drawn it a month ago or something about that, and colored it just by now... Hence - uglyuglyugly
Another fanmaren. I'm positive this certain psycho haunts bad kids at night
Question: What is the thing scarier than sharp cold weapon?
Answer: (Bad-drawned sharp cold weapon) A hand of a kid holding it.
I would try to draw proper art as soon as final exams are over...

that dreamscape definitely looks like a place I'd like to find myself in one of these NiGHTS.
Your fanmaren are very nice, too!

MidgitLD, well, it's because I'm still not used to draw NiGHTS or Reala, I guess... ^^""" So it's easier to me now to draw fanmares of uncanon designs (I have to concentrate on those jester-hats...)

Thank you, Icachan! Oh, and yes, I should say that today's update owes you and animejosse a lot ^-^
Lets start with this!
Click to see Helen wearing pink!
When I was listening to the podcast show №3 and I heard animejosse calling Helen "a remade barbie doll!", I got a thought that I have to draw that. So, I've just let my hand go, and this is what I end up with. So withness the new look of Helen doll - pardon me, girl - lot's of frills, couple of ribbons, screaming golden blonde hair and lots of barbie pink
Speaking of barbie dolls, that also trigged idea for a mini-comic
Helen is a barbie doll!
For those who can't read my horrible handwritings:
"I'm a barbie girl in a barbie world!"
"Life in plastic... is fantastic!" (munching 100% plastic cereals)
"You can brush my hair!"
"Undress me everywhere!" *whack!*
"Imagination, life is your creation!"
The song is "Barbie Girl" by Aqua.
And the third! To be honest, I was thinking about switching Helen and Billy's hobbies myself, but - Icachan and animejosse gave me a clear image of this
Willi the Violinist and Helen the Footballer
Did't spent much time and skills, obviously. Not sure about the whole coloring-shading-highlighting thing... And well, I was suppose to draw Will somewhat bashful, but he looks scared... Or wait, maybe Helen said something like "I got balls", and he don't know wherether she's serious or he can laugh freely...
Well, thats all for today! ~_^

Ahem. That Helen Barbie doll is...scary and cute at the same time. XDXD Very well done! And I honestly think the kids would be better if they switched hobbies now, especially after seeing that pic of yours. :3

Don't let stuff like that discourage you from trying.
(Now your going to get me to force you to practice.)
I would bet that your a lot better than you think.
A trick:
1.) Get a ruler or buy one if you need it. Just a cheap plastic 12 inch one is ok but I prefer wooden ones also make sure it isn't warped or has defects that would mess up a strait line.
2.) Take a piece of drawing paper or whatever you prefer to practice on and draw a strait line from the top to the bottom of the paper. Doesn't need to be the whole length but a least the length you think you will use to draw on.
3.) This part will take a bit of math but should be pretty easy with the ruler. Divide the line into either 5,6, or 7 equal sections depending on the height you want the character or person. I will draw an example in paint if you want, my photoshop isn't working on this computer....
4.) Make the head the height of the top most section and the rest should be pretty obvious from there. (Easier to understand with examples.)
Now I do want to see you practice on this. (Even if you put it in scraps on DA)
I will be watching you. (Don't take it as pressure I just like to see good artists grow. XD)

Well, today I'm back with a dreamscape. I'm a bit too tired to comment my work right now... the Deviant comment says all. Just skip the outburst at the beginning

Adding a bit to E-kairis tips about anatomy practice: Another great way of doing it is to sketch from photos. It can be from a clothing catalog, nude (if you're comfortable with that of course) or just regular photos that you got lying about. That way you learn a bit about anatomy, practice your general drawing skills AND get an idea of how different body types look. :3 I personally practice by sketching from "Anatomy for the Artist", but that book is a) a bit expensive and B.) kind of hard core if you're not into learning anatomy perfectly.

Oooh, that's really pretty! Looks like it's made from quicksilver or something~ I love how you made the water flow, looks liquid but still sort of solid.

Ah which reminds me, something I forgot to ad...
If you get a photo of person to use to help you scan it and make two copyies.
One of the copies do nothing with it but use it for reference, with the other one draw the lines I was talking about above. It would be easier to see how this person fits anatomy this way.
And a little added something to this...
Draw their stick figure selfs there. (What do you call it? X_X )
It would also be easier to see how they are standing, siting, ect.

I haven't done all what I've planned, but I'll do it in next few days for sure
I brought a Helen redesign of mine, which can be seen here. It's a deviation, actually, and I'm too lazy to either retype the comment or to copy-past it. Please click the link ^^

P.S. Ah, right, a slight note on yer latest Helen redesign, I'm unsure, but it appears to me she's not actually holding the violin bow. Like it just be floating there. Otherwise you have a pretty good grasp on the concepts of lighting (something that I certainly envy), and a great deal of promise as an artist. Just make sure to experiment!

I see you complaining about the violin but I see nothing wrong with it.
I love the texture you put to it, especially in the hair.
The shine in the shoes, I wish I could do that! XD
I was wondering if you could either:
A.) Blow up the picture more so we can see the detail a lot better
or
B.) Blow up certain sections of the picture to see other parts that you payed special detail to...
If that made sense...

To Ekairi: I still have an uncolored version of Helen's redesigned outfit, but I'm not really sure if I have it scanned; but anyways, would an uncolored version be okay for you?
To everyone: Thank you so much for visiting my galleries and having a look at my pictures; double thanks for those who comments them. Hope to bring more works next time ^^
