Okay, so this morning I was in the middle of a dream and I was lucid. I was in a food court/restaurant area in a building. I'd finished eating and needed to go find this girl to help her out with something. As I pass under this series of archways that lead into a hall, I "hear" something. It was a voice of sorts, and it was all around in the background, like a buzz, and although I couldn't distinguish any words, I could tell it was ordering around the entire dream. I knew instinctively what it was. I stood there in the archway and said, "So you're my unconscious?" And the voice answered, clear and booming this time, "Yes." "Can I fly?" I asked. But it denied me permission. "No," the voice said. "Aw, you've ruined my fun," I said, but I continued on walking to where I was gonna go before and didn't try to fly because 1. For it to say no, it must be important for me to follow the dream as my subconscious wanted it instead of flying around wherever I please (although I ended up forgetting most of the dream, anyways). 2. I'd probably be sent back to the ground anyways if I tried since lucid control such as flight depends on how much the unconscious is willing to give.

But that was perhaps the most unsettling thing I've ever experienced in a dream. It had an immense and intimidating presence. I've only experienced such a thing during another lucid dream July 15 of this year. In an old, abandoned castle, there was a giant, gnarled tree that was thousands of feet tall that grew up out of what seemed a bottomless pit filled with darkness and mist. It was so ancient and massive and foreign. It seemed like an exotic tree from Africa to me.

It scares me. I'm fine with most of my dreams, NiGHTS, and other people in my dreams, but whenever my entire unconscious itself decides to manifest itself in some way to me, it terrifies me. I guess it's due to a fear of being swallowed up by it and going insane. That's probably why I haven't really progressed any since back in July. Any tips on how to handle this and get over my fear? What should I do next? I really need some help.

"There is nothing to fear but fear itself"

I've always used my dreams to conquer my fears...
let's see... I would think that the most intimidating part of this "manifested unconscious" would be that you feel that it has supreme authority over you, correct? And the size of this thing emphasizes this... kinda hard for me to suggest what to do to stop it... as I do not know if this intimidation is a reflection of a real world individual or not... but I will assume it's not...
I guess I would suggest...
When you encounter this figure... I would laugh/scream at this figure in defiance (not fear) and grasp a firm belief in your mind that you have control NOT your unconscious, while trying not to think of what COULD happen or what it could do to you... hold fast to the belief that you will win.
Sounds cheesy but the confidence you get from screaming/laughing is empowering...
I just hope (if you decide to follow this) that you remember it when you encounter this being again :/ I can't seem to think at all when I dream...

Think of the fear- You're afraid of "a" yourself or "b" narrators. If you chose a, you have multiple personality disorder, and if you chose b, then avoid theatre. Kidding aside, it helps to rationalize fears- if you focus on how ridiculous it is, it loses it's "UMPH!" that scares you.

Thanks for the advice, guys. You're right, I really shouldn't be afraid of myself. The thing was, I read a book on Jungian psychology the day before that dream. It flooded me with information, turned my world asunder (upside-down, topsy-turvy, etc.), and brought to my attention how Carl Jung himself pretty much risked his sanity to delve deeper into his unconscious. I started seeing archetypal symbols in everything and then my dreams continued my little "digestion" process. Before reading that book, though, I thought of my subconscious as a childish, sometimes mischievous or humorous, but generally benevolent part of myself. It took me a little while to remember that.

I just hope (if you decide to follow this) that you remember it when you encounter this being again :/ I can't seem to think at all when I dream...

I think I'll remember your advice, since in my dreams I can remember stuff I told myself to do.

Now I wanna read that book...
Anyhoo, I wish you the best and pray for your success!

Peace!
