How were you first introduced to NiGHTS?

I'm writing a thread to ask you lot how were you first introduced to NiGHTS? My story as goes:
When I was 10, I recieved a NiGHTS Into Dreams handheld Tiger game for my birthday. I didn't really enjoy it much as I couldn't figure how to play the thing, but my brothers used to play it sometimes. I didn't really had a good introduction to NiGHTS.
Fast forward to 8 years later, I was a bit of a Sonic fan, as I had fond memories of an old friend who loved the game. I was also collecting Saturn games and when I was going through them, I've found NiGHTS and thought to myself, oh no, not that crappy handheld game, and I gave it a miss.
A year later, I found a fan game called Sonic Robo Blast 2 and I finished it, and when I finished SRB fully, I played this wierd secret level (Spring Hill Zone) with Super Sonic flying through giant hoops, collecting rings to destroy a capsule, and it had nice old school music, which I've found out was from Spring Valley. I've found out it was based of NiGHTS Into Dreams, so I thought "I wonder what the original was like" so I got NiD and I was pleased, and I never looked back since. I've worked hard to manage to even UNLOCK Twin Seeds not to mention, finish it, and kick Wizeman's arse. Heck I still remember screaming at the top of my lungs "YOU LITTLE BEAUTY!!!!" after I defeated Jackle for the first time after around 15-20 tries!!!! Even my mum was shocked that I screamed so loud, it had her worried. (I was living at home at the time)
So yep, that's my story of how I was introduced to NiGHTS. Thank Sonic Team Jr. (SRB2 makers) for it!!!

Sorta on topic- One key moment for me was playing Twin Seeds for the first time.. realizing there was nothing to do but jump, I did, not expecting what might happen.. Claris fell, and I was like ....
Then, two seconds later..
omg.

Okay so, I was talking with my good buddy TRAViS, who had been mentioning NiGHTS all over the place. I was still completely oblivious to what he was talking about, but I was humoring him as I tend to do. He then mentioned that he was educating another friend (who, unfortunately, is not a part of this community) as to the "wonders of NiGHTS". At this point curiosity had finally grabbed be by the collar and yelled in my face, so I proceeded to ask him about it, now genuinely interested. I remember he told me that it wasn't something that he could explain in a short amount of time and my best bet was to come here and read the dotcom, or to play the game myself.
I wandered over to the dotcom about an hour later, having ignored the Halo 3 launch (this was on 9-26-07), and read up on the game. I got through the "Story" section and immediately wanted to play. I Ended up downloading the game and an emulator, and although it ran slowly on my computer, I was completely hooked. I played it pretty much non-stop for two days (I have a VERY addictive personality).
I went from Oblivious to Fan in just under 3 hours. Then from Fan to Addict in about another 5 days.
Not more than a week ago I won myself a Saturn on Ebay and NiGHTS into Dreams, just so I could get the Authentic Experience. (It should be pulling in my driveway any minute!! ^.^)

That's the long and short of it for me, really.

.. well, 'cept me really. XD I sent my story to the Experience section of the dotcom, so you might've read it already. Basically, 11-year-old Chibi-Kori went browsing through Toys R Us one day, and met the flying jester in a demo stand. She really couldn't play too well at first - to this day, getting a B grade is a miracle! - but she fell in love instantly.
Another eleven years go by... and still, defeating Jackle is a 50/50 chance at best!

Then I played the Pinball Machine in SADX, and I was like, "WTF is this? Its so...weird!". Then I looked it up and found this website, NiD.com. Thats my story.
EDIT: Theres more! So, I was like "OMG NiGHTS is liek ssooooo awesome!!1!!one!" for a loooong time, but I hadnt even played the game yet. My very generous aunt bought me a Saturn and NiGHTS as an "Early birthday present" even though I got that in March, and my B-Day was in August. So I connected it. And I played it. It took a break from the Drug for about 3 years. And now I am addicted again after joining these forums! So, thanks to all!

Well, I remember a long long time ago seeing the game when I was going through a WalMart bargain bin. I forgot about it until the NiGHTS-covered NP issue came out this year. I read the magazine and was intrigued...
...and then forgot all about it again. Finally when I was browsing through DeviantArt, I saw a NiGHTS picture and decided to browse, because I knew I'd seen that guy somewhere before. I came first to this site and immediately fell in love. In the space of 2 hours I'd signed up for this forum and doodled a quick picture of NiGHTS on my Religion title page.
Guess that's all I really need to say.

No,seriously!:´DD
I first saw him/her when i was playing Sonic Adventure 2:Battle. I was....13 or 14 at that time? Anyway, i had just got Gamecube, and i was playing with the Sonic game i got as a birthday present. I saw the NiGHTS hotel poster while running the stairs up in the City Escape, and i was like: "WTF? What IS that thing....FREAAKY." O_o
After i got the DX version of the Sonic Adventure,i thought "Oh (//%&/%.....The purple wereido is back haunting me again!"><.
But soon, after playing the pinball part a bit, i liked the card theme and the music, and all about it was much more nicer than the dumb Sonic-themed pinball. xD
Then,i just forgot about his/her existance.
Few months ago,it somehow hitted me hard: I stragely wanted to go to IGN so see if there is any ood gaming news. There was a small news regarding NiGHTS,and when saw her name i thought: "Hmmmmh....Somehow i have heard this name before, this article sounds intresting, gotta read this!"
The rest is up to history: I watched all of the videos, and i loved them. I surfed in Google, and found the .COM,and....
I'm here now! And i am definetly going to buy JoD when i get a Wii ! ^__^

My first meeting was when the game first came out-- I was a little over 6 years old, and clearly remember seeing the title on store shelves.
My second and major experience was when I was "re-introduced" to the game and finally dived into the fandom headfirst-- the year Sonic Pinball was released for GBA.
Thank God for little brothers... my own young brother Mike (then age 8) happened to grab the game before anyone else, of course, and wouldn't let anyone else touch it. As could be expected, we were all dying to know how it was!
One day at our piano lessons, I convinced him to at least let me see the instruction booklet. Flipping through it, I suddenly stumbled upon a certain purple jester-- NiGHTS himself.
I still remember the abrupt deja vu I got. "Hey, I know this guy!" Was the first thought that entered my mind. Typical spinny, I had a sketchbook with me, and so quickly drew him twice. That started it all.
When I got home, I went on a crazyhuge Internet search for NiGHTS. I swear I was on that thing for hours.
I discovered paraloop.net, DeviantART, the whole NiD community here and TRiPPY herself within the same week thanks to my devoted efforts. I was hooked for good, and still am to this day.
That was back in early 2003. Almost 5 years later, and I'm still just as huge a fan as ever!
Unfortunately, I'm still hunting down the game itself... wish me luck, kids...!

My first encounter with NiGHTS was in Sonic Adventure 2: Battle for the Gamecube. Saw the poster, didn't give him a second thought. Passed right through my mind and didn't even register.
Then, about six months later, I got Sonic Adventure DX. Saw our flying purple clown inside the NiGHTS Pinball. I actually tried to hit him with Sonic several times, thinking I'd get some sort of bonus for mangling the flying purple anuerexic dude. (Only ever managed to do it once. Can't remember if I ever got that bonus. XD) Still only thought of him as some bonus thing. Didn't even piece him together with the poster in SA2:B.
Then, Sonic Riders came out. I went to GameFAQs to find out all the obvious stuff, and then I saw NiGHTS' name. Didn't even piece together with NiGHTS Pinball, since it had been a few months since I'd played Casinopolis in SADX, but something about him. Hadn't even seen him yet, but something about a flying purple clown just stuck in my head. So, being the impatient git that I am, I beat Story Mode in Sonic Riders, then used my brother's Action Replay to unlock all the bonus stuff, specifically to get NiGHTS. Took one look at the guy.
'Funny-looking dude... Or is it a girl? ... Does it matter?' Started playing as NiGHTS. Didn't get ANYWHERE near first place, but I was hooked on him anyway.
Eventually started looking stuff up on Wikipedia about NiGHTS. I knew I was hooked. Soon after, I found out about JoD coming out. Took me a few looks at the game page before I began to wonder who was keeping the page up-to-date. It was a sequel to an 11-12 year old game that hardly anyone knew about, right? I check the editor's name in the references bit, and click the link. It brought me here, and over the next few months, I scoured most of this site, unable to get enough. I visited the Oekaki daily, checked the news, downloaded some of the music, and kept coming for the news and Oekaki/Fanart, and trying to find out who UV NiGHTS was, mainly. Eventually, against my judgement to not enter any sort of 'Commitments' I joined the forum literally three days ago. Still can't get enough. XD But I did find out the deal with UV NiGHTS, so... XD

Once upon a time, when I was but a wee little Sa, I, like so many others, had become infatuated with the blue hedgehog we all know as Sonic. After much whining and begging, I ended up with a sega saturn and a copy of Sonic Jam.
All was right with the world.
My mom however thought it'd be silly to buy an entire gaming platform for just one game, so she bought a handful of other saturn games as well... one of which happened to be NiGHTS.
I, of course, wanted nothing to do with it because "its not sonic lolz". So, my mom sat down and tried playing it herself.
Surprise! She got hooked instantly. : D
Although I personally could not play because my 7-year-old brain could not comprehend the concept of controlling a character in three dimensions, I loved to sit and watch. :3
But as time went on, mom eventually gave up on ever beating the game, and the sega saturn ended up in the basement, forgotten.
Then, years later-- around 2005 I believe-- I became spontaneously interested in Sonic again for no apparent reason. So I got myself a gamecube and a copy of SA2:B.
All was right with the world.
...'till I got to the Whatsitcalled Highway level and saw NiGHTS' GIANT GLOWING HEAD in the background. *lol*
I then had an attack of "OMG I REMEMBER HIM. <3" and promptly hit the intarwebs. My sega saturn is now back in its rightful place in my room, and my mom still has no idea how to beat Wizeman.
The End. : D

I actually remenber telling this inspiring story to Trav and Xenon, at the NiD irc chatroom. Not much to tell. It started when I was a "big" fan of the Sonic game series. So, since my only Sonic info came from the games I had, I started to look trought the internet looking for lil' pieces of information about the characters that I didn't know yet. So, one of those marvellous days, I came across a lil' page that feature information about some Sonic games. For some reason, NiGHTS was also included. I then went looking for what could that game be. So, I went Googlin' some more. And, as I also said in the chat, it is fatal as destiny to find Tripplet's little (or not so little) NiGHTS website qhen looking for NiGHTS information. And then the rest you can easily guess. I started looking for the game, at the pictures, and soon fell in love with the game like everyone here telling their own story.
...
Only I haven't played the game yet. ;__;

I was a huge Knuckles fangirl and my artwork was well known at SOA offices at the time. I was about 13-14 years old and Sega at the time was in the middle of helping me with a school geography project (yeah @_@). I was going through some hardtimes being homeless so the people who owned the refuge i lived in contacted Sega for me and things sort of blossomed from there as a kid. They'd send me merch and free games and art and stuff to keep me motivated in my goals. One day the Director sent me a big box of random merch and the first thing i pulled out was a fuzzy purple jester hat with a gold sega Staff pin attached to it. I remember thinking 'wtf is this?' Then i recalled seeing this dreaded hat in a Sega magazine saying that 'NiGHTS' was going to replace Sonic. I immediately got upset and paro (lol) for my favourite Sonic characters. Then at the bottom of the box was a PAL copy of the game. It wasn't even out yet (anywhere bizzarely) and i had a final copy. On it was a note saying that i should give him a chance along with a S&K watch gift set to californian time XD;
Cue me grumblingly playing the game for the first time. They also gave me a demo of a Segasoft game called Obsidian which was also set in a dreamworld.
It took about a week for me to ultimately drop my Sonic fandom and jump headfirst into the brandnew NiGHTS one. I did feel a bit guilty lol, but
TWAS DESTINY~
I didn't ever think that when i held the game for the first time that I'd end up running this website years later. It was honestly lifechanging.
*lots of stuff happened between then and now*
Annnd here i am :3

Despite my (to this day) contacts with Sega i still admitidly get fangirly. I just apreciate the company a whole lot, it sort of done more for me than just make games, it was like having a omnipresent aunt as a kid, lol.

Honestly I was like that when I was a kid, when I got that Tiger handheld version of NiGHTS, I thought "What the hell is this?? I don't get it with a jester and kids". That was until 10 years later when I played the proper Saturn game, and thought it was great! Now if only I could at least B-rank Mystic Forest
To this day, I'm absolutely fed up with the 3D shooters (Same thing, different name). NiGHTS, even Sonic, and most of the old Sega/Nintendo games/franchises, are more fun than the RUBBISH that hard core gamers play.

I was only 3 when NiGHTS came out, so I first heard about NiGHTS when reading the article on the sequel in NINTENDO POWER. dont know why, but i grabbed a notecard and pencil stub and skeched out NiGHTS as he appeared on the cover. I dident think about NiGHTS again until one very boring september day in global studies. I decided i'd try to draw NiGHTS as i remembered him. looking back at the picture, he looks a little more colonial then he really is XD I did more research, I found that Claris's and Elliot's stuggles were slightly similer to mine, and the've helped me through many, many struggles. The end. bedtime story done, now go to bed.

Next thing I know I hear a voice behind me asking what's wrong. I didn't look. I didn't even answer. The person just wouldn't leave so I got up and started to walk away. Then this asshole decides to gently grab my shoulder. I'm like back off man. I turned around and saw this ghostly looking thing in a jester hat. I'm like WTF man. I couldn't move. I was too freaked out. I mean the thing's head was litterally floating right above the rest of him. It's hand weren't even connected. Then the creepy spirit just decides to fly off leaving a huge spark trail behind. That spark smelled like heaven. I can say that much.
But anyway onto how I first got introduced to NiGHTS. My cousin had the game. I didn't know what to do but it was pretty cool just to look at the beautiful scenery and hear that angelic collection of music. I played Christmas NiGHTS over my sister's old friend's grandmother's house. I was hooked on NiGHTS deeply because of Christmas NiGHTS mostly. I really do like the music in that game though. I became addicted to finding any piece of music I could find relating to NiGHTS. So yeah. That's how I first met NiGHTS. Back in 99 or 2000. Something like that.

It is...Whatever year the Dreamcast came out. I am a wee lass with a brandspanking new copy of Sonic Adventure. Joyous times are had with 3D Sonic. That is, until Casinopolis.
Me: PINBAAAAAAAALL! *Goes into NiGHTS table*
Me: What the- This isn't Sonic! What's on these cards!? Who are these people!? What's going on!? *confusion*
*goes into the part with NiGHTS and the Ideya Palace*
Me:.......*stares* This place...is awesome. Ground in the sky? Floating windmills? Who's that mischievous dancing purple guy? *starts moving back to the pinball* Wait! I'm not done here! Go baaaaack! Gooooo baaaaaaaaaaaaack! *starts mashing buttons* ;.;
*proceeds to play for hours*
Fast forward to like, 2004.
Friend: Wanna borrow Sonic Adventure DX?
Me: OMG YESH! *plays Casinopolis*
Me: Hey, its purple guy! *proceeds to play for hours* I STILL don't know who you are...TO the INTRAWEBS!
I then stumbled onto TRiPPY's site and well, here I am!

Initially I stumbled upon NiGHTS in ye olde SEGA Saturn Magazine back in '96 and instantly fell in love with the bright and intense flavour the game and its characters had (aside from the minions... God I hated them... specially Shleep XD), however, me being a wittle 9 year old had no hope of ever actually buying a Saturn, so NiGHTS and Co. fell back into obscurity until Sonic Adventure came out a few years later.
After many hours in that oh-so-famous pinball table I still didn't get to play as NiGHTS and the seeds of an obsession were sown again. One of my mates went the full nine yards and bought himself a Saturn, which, thank God, he loaned to me for a while so I could churn my way through his copy of NiGHTS.
Finally, I became an owner of the game last year... but it strikes me that I haven't actually completed my copy yet... WTF? o_O
Gotta get on that now! >_<

It's all my sister's fault. I wasn't a huge gamer back in the day, though I loved the Sega Genesis Sonic games. I didn't really keep up to date with new games and new systems; that task was left up to my sister, and I would try whatever games she brought home. It was my sister who bought the Saturn when I was in middle school, and it was my sister who bought all the games for the Saturn that I ended up addicted to (Shining Force III, Shining the Holy Ark, Astal, NiGHTS, etc.). She went through a bit of a NiGHTS-fan phase in middle school/high school, which included the creation of a fan maren (that she never drew more than once, but that I mercilessly uncovered from a pile of her old art last year). So yeah, I first played NiGHTS back in the day of its original release.
I liked NiGHTS but wasn't really "into" it until about a year ago, when I was taking a semester off from college and puttering around without much to do. I wound up replaying a bunch of old video games, NiGHTS included. This time around I really enjoyed NiGHTS: I was able to respect the whimsical nature and crazy character designs more, and the score attack stuff was a blast for time-killing. The result of my NiGHTS replaying was some fanart and a renewed interest in the game, so when I heard rumors about a sequel, I was very amused.
Which brings us to the present day, in which I'm rather excited to see a sequel to a golden oldie.

A couple of years later, in 1998, I wanted a Saturn for Christmas. Yes, by that time it was clear that Sony were completely dominant, but a Saturn was what I still wanted! There were only four games I initially wanted for it: Sega Rally*, Sonic R**, Marvel Super Heroes***... and NiGHTS Into Dreams.**** I got all those, and luckily, the second-hand Saturn my mum bought for me also had a copy of Christmas NiGHTS, which I wasn't expecting!
* Still one of my favourite racing games.
** I was obsessed with time attacking it when I first got it... but I haven't had any desire to play it for several years now.
*** It was great in the arcades, but the Saturn version became redundant when I got Marvel vs Capcom 2 for the Dreamcast.
**** Oh, it's fairly good.

Obviously I'd finished it several hundred times by then and like others here, that first time you jump off the floating island for the final levels sticks in my memory. I must have stood there for about 5 minutes thinking I'd glitched the game and NiGHTS hadn't appeared. So I figured I'd kill myself and reload the level. Walk to edge, wobble a bit. Jump......... ..... ......
Finally got around to getting a new Saturn from eBay a couple of years ago for £35 with about 6 games including NiGHTS boxed with the analogue controller and mint condition game guides for the original Tomb Raider (which was one of the games) and NiGHTS kindly thrown in as well.
Recently managed to win an auction for 2 copies of Christmas NiGHTS which I remember having at some point when I had my first Saturn oh so many years ago, but it must have been sold with the rest of it.
Still, got it all back now.

I got my Sega Saturn and NiGHTS as a gift from my parents when I went away to college way back in the fall of 1996. I think they got it for me as way of trying to keep me out of too much trouble since I was 16 and going away from home for the first time! I was hooked from the first time I booted the game and still am 11 years later. To this day I still have my same Sega Saturn and copy of NiGHTS and I play through it and Christmas NiGHTS at least twice a week to this day.
OMG! You have that Tiger Electronics handheld NiGHTS!!!! I've had that when I was a kid!!!

Waaaaay back in 1996, when yours truly was but a wee tyke of seven years, we were off at Media Play one day, which they sometimes had a Goosebumps Book Club there, we were going to pick up my sister. As per usual, I ran off to the game section to check out the latest releases, even though I couldn't afford them back then. Lo and behold, on one of the stations was NiGHTS, and not a soul was playing it.
I opted to give it a try, starting as Elliot. I barely managed to reach the end of Mare 1 on whatever level it was left at before Mom came back with my sister and dragged me out. I had long since forgotten about it for some time. While reading through another forum about dreams, someone mentioned the game. To google I went, and I was hooked on the concept. Actually, I think I stopped off here at one time or another. XD Aaanyway. To this day, my efforts at securing my own copy and a saturn have been thwarted, but now that I have a job, well, Ebay, here I come!
