Ok, people. Our resident Spy Ninja's, Niraven and Martijn have got confirmation on the release date for NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams. Here's what Niraven told us in her email -

"OK, Releasedate news is always good. Here's what we got today straight from SEGA:

Japan and USA: Q4 (December) 2007 release
Europe: Q1 2008

That's official news."

And there you have it, straight from the source. Go and tell your homies. All you cats in America, consider yourself luckier than us jammin' over in the UK.

It does seem the game was delayed from it's November release date so technically the delay still stands hence why the December release date is in place now.
Can't figure out why the UK has to wait another bloody month for it, though. Oh well.

A big thanks to our NiD NiNJA's for getting this information this morning. ^^

Thanks man |D!

...

I'm really honestly not gonna be surprised if the US and Japan dates gets pushed off too, just because the last time we heard it was 55% done, now it's probably 60% or so, and I really don't want SEGA to rush it for an Xmas Release...

well, considering how much better the levels look now and with all the things in place, A-Life confirmed and new modes and stuff implemented I feel a lot less nervous about a 2007 release date than I did before. especially if its coming out in December. I would like to see it delayed, but if the game is being finalized at this point its a good bet to say that they managed to make it in time without rushing. It has that "finished" look to it in the new videos and at this point they can start working on tweaking little things and polishing it up.

YAAAAAY!!!!! *dances around* But.....crap.....now WE have to deal with the damned holiday rush over here in the U.S...All the more reason to reserve it on Amazon  !

So....anyone in Europe should be considered lucky if you plan to go to the store and buy the game! But thank goodness there's a(hopefully) solid release date we can look forward to!

Oh god the holiday rush at gamesotp is going to be terrible! >.<

I feel really sorry for TRiPPY though. She is one of the biggest, actually quite possible the biggest, NiGHTS fan and she has to wait an extra month. Sorry TRiPPY....

Lol, in the words of TRiPPY herself just a few seconds ago - "f*** waiting a month!" XD Don't you worry about us. We'll find a way to play that game before it reaches the UK. ^^

As for 'NiGHTSfan123's question, it was in development from around November 2006 since we were in the presence of Sega staff at last years Auchinawa convention. I believe the production for the game began around that time. However, around February or March the game was pulled back and some form of re-haul occurred, which is probably why at the Leipzig convention the game was still only at around 55-60% complete. I still think Sega should pull that date back. As much as that trailer makes me squee-with-glee i just don't want them to try and release it for Christmas all because they want to be a part of the Christmas rush. I would rather have a game that is as close to being perfected as possible than have a game released so little Timmy can open his presents on Christmas Day and not have to wait.

With Sega, any sort of "quality control" is usually wishful thinking these days. It could still be a good game though, I'm not going to be too pessemistic about it yet.

Sorry about you all in the Europe. I wish we could all play around the same time.

How about this. No one talks about the game when it comes out in America and Japan until Europe gets it.

Thank you, NiNJAS!

This doesn't surprise me at all, really. European gamers are traditionally the least loved by hardware and software developers. I'm sure I don't understand why, but that seems to be how it is.

Still, if you European NiGHTS fans want to buy a copy from the U.S, more power to ya. I just hope you have a Wii that's American or modded though, because the Wii is region-locked. ^_^

So the US release date has been pushed back as well? The game was originally going to come out in October, then it got pushed back to November, and now it's December? Not bad. I would still prefer a 2008 release since it would give the developers more time to finish the game and the game would fall on an even numbered year like the first game did.

I wish the game was pushed back to January, period. It stands no chance of getting noticed in the same month as SSBB.

Is it true that Nintendo has a 4-6 week approval period for games?

I agree completely. NiGHTS'll lose proper hype to Mario again.....and I think that it should be pushed back to January....even though I'm impatient as hell, I'll wait if it means the quality of the game....

yeah....if Sega wants to sell this game AT ALL they MUST advertise it. It didnt seem to be very high budget so they should spend al ittle and make sure people actually know about this game.

NiGHTS has already lost most of its hype due to the madness that is Halo 3. It can rebuild its hype though but based on most comments by 12 year old males, this game might not be as much of a classic as the first one thanks to a biased nature.

Halo is a very ovverrated franchise and it honestly isnt very good. Not even in its genre. But I know it will bury this game on its very first day without breaking a sweat. Sad.

Let's not turn this into a Halo bashing discussion...after all, between the Wii games that are going to be big (Mario Galaxy & SSBB) and unique titles that will also be introduced, (Zack & Wiki being the main one) There still is a chance that most gamers may miss out...even without factoring the 'Halo-hypemachine'.

*loves his Halo as much as NiGHTS...

Elaborate, please.

For my part, I wouldn't worry about Halo. By the time NiGHTS is released, Halo 3 copies all over the country will be well-worn and the trilogy long over and done. Don't underestimate how much time can pass in three months.

However, I would worry about the lack of press. Granted, Metroid Prime 3 had a woeful ad policy of "too little, too late" and it still did all right. But then, it wasn't up against juggernauts like Mario Galaxy or SSB.

I'm very curious to see how this is going to work out. I wonder if Nintendo would let Sega advertise for NiGHTS via Virtual Console, like Metroid Prime 3 did.

oo' Just being biased I guess, since TRiPPY and DiGi are in Europe. ^^;; I know Sega wouldn't change the release dates just because of that, though.

I'd like Europse to be Getting it first for 2 Reasons really...

1) Since when have we EVER gotten anything First, or, hell, even Second? (Well, except the Craptaculer EA Football game that is cranked out ever Year, but you know...)
2) The game is CLEARLY Set in London, so THERE.

Xay would like to point out that number 2 was a Joke XP

To all those who hate me for my HAHA EUROPE comment, I'm just messing with you guys. I do think that all regions should recieve the game at the same time.

I can't help but wonder what other games from the past Sega will bring back and revitalize. After all, can't JoD just be a single step on the great journey of Sega becoming a good video game company again? With all the games that Sega could bring back, the company could have a pathway to greatness laid out before them.

*Stopping road metaphors now.* :P

Okay, serious question here, guys. Do you think that if a major effort were put in where lots of people emailed or snail mailed Sega, emphasizing that we want the game finished and pushing the date back is definitely acceptable, that it would really have any effect?

I don't want another Sonic 2006!! :(

Just imagine for a second what its going to be like for those who don't pre-order. It will be living HELL just trying to get through the crowds, let alone secure a copy of any game as hot as this one. If all goes well, the people at Sega won't need presents, because the moolah that JoD brings in will be as good as any gift. :D :)

<< >> I think it's stupid that there's a release date difference. Besides, Europe, this means if there's a ZOMG FATAL BUG with our games you guys might be able to get a fix. You luckies. xD; . I'm not gonna be happy if Europe gets it first. Not happy if US gets it first. Not happy if Japan gets it. I don't think there's any reason the US, Japan, or Europe should get it before any other country does, but SEGA has a financial chart like they always do, and that's basically what it is >>...

Thanks for the release info! Since I didn't get any summer holiday time from work, I'll be booking off a week or so... 8D

I would assume, if North America and Japan are getting the first release, that the date would likely be December 13? 'Tis what the Japanese site says. But hey, I could be wrong.

Besides, Canada doesn't always get games the same day as the States. Sometimes it's a day/week later because of shipping issues, sometimes it's earlier, sometimes it's by suppertime on the release day. One never knows! XP I haven't pre-ordered it yet because the very same thing happened with Sonic and the Secret Rings. I'm taking a chance!

And I'm not terribly worried about crowds - not many people know about NiGHTS where I live.. XD;;
