Volare (NiGHTS inspired - made in Dreams on PS4)

30 March 2020 - 02:41 PM

Hey folks!

Not sure how many even frequent these forums anymore, but you might remember me as the guy who, a looooooooong time ago, started work on a NiGHTS fangame called Second Slumber. That project went by the wayside for many years, and then shifted into UE4 as it's own thing (which also drifted into the abyss of the unfinished project, but still might make a return one of these days  )

Fast forward to a little over a month ago, when Media Molecule released Dreams on the PS4.

Spent a few days binge-ing on the tutorials, dissecting creations, etc. etc. and then thought, "you know what, I'm gunna bloody do that project finally!"

I reduced the scope to a bare bones score attack, 3 minutes, 1 level, 1 track with no branching, no capture point, just fly like mad and score as much as you possibly can. Then try again and see how you compare on the leaderboards.

Well, I did it! I actually completed the thing, and released it to Dreams players at the weekend :D

Here's my launch trailer:

And here's me after hours of testing getting my highest score to date:

Please, if you have Dreams on the PS4, give it a go (search for Volare in Dream Surfing, or find it here - https://indreams.me/dream/mmaVbABSySP )

Don't forget to give it a thumbs up. I've also entered it into the Arcade theme community jam, so votes will be welcomed there once voting starts.

Finally, feel free to give me any feedback on here, as a number of people think the controls are too difficult (I'm looking into adding a sensitivity option for new players, but I've found its impossible to get high scores with that in place from early tests).
