Mine doesn't really answer these in any particular order, but it sums it up pretty well. Is that alright?

Also: .MP3 or .WAV?

Ah. I thought you meant bright as in pastel purple or something. :/

I'm all for the overhaul, though. Can't wait to see it. Can we expect all the old sections to be there?

@Bret- Yes! You win the realistic observation prize. Sonic should not be slowed down to OoT Adult Link levels (He was like a freaking snail without Epona!), but exploration is an important element to balance the (rather gimmicky) speed.

@bret: Amen!! :lol:

Holy crap, Sonic fans who are in agreement! Soon a cure for cancer will be found, world hunger stopped, clowns and nuns will get along, etc, etc.

Of course, I'm not saying they should make the games any slower, I'm saying playing a faster character shouldn't be conductive of a "race-against-time" style of gameplay. You'd think that after Mario64 set the standards, Sonic Team would just suck it up and follow suit, but with Sonic-like physics and speed and in an obstacle laden environment.

I'm actually disappointed the new game will be a sidescroller. I was hoping they'd just fix all the obvious (and easily fixable) problems with the 3d ones and move on.

Contrary to oh-so-popular belief, the old school games were platformers, they put emphasis on platforming and exploring your environment. The 3d games are like, here's a level, get from this point to this point as fast as possible.

I wish people would get past the word "Sonic" and associating it with the gameplay, like speed is the only aspect to the series. The reason the 3d games were so terrible isn't because they were 3d, it's because they had linear unimaginative level design and the focus was primarily on getting to the finish line. That's never been fun, and it never will be.

And yes, you can ruin a 2d game in the same manner. Side scrolling doesn't dictate how the game is played. It could simply be another shallow get-to-the-finish-line failure of a game.

But, y'know... Plan for the worst, hope for the best. Maybe developers will actually play the old games as reference this time around and stop assuming Sonic "just isn't fast enough".
