Just a quick question for all you folks. After watching a few videos on Youtube about Christmas NiGHTS, a thought occured. Knowing that most people will NOT be able to get their hands on a copy of Christmas NiGHTS, (myself included) I was thinking we could bring a little of the game to them.

Now, knowing that it would for the most part be impossible to play the actual game, I was wondering if we could at least bring the Bonus Gifts to the site. Now, what I mean is that someone remakes the menu for it, as well as the gifts (those which do not use normal gameplay), then brings it to NiD.com, thus allowing visitors to the site to play around with the gifts, like Karoke, the Jukebox, and the CG Museums.

Seeing as their are many technically savvy people here, would it be possible to do such a thing? Would there be any issues with this? Any comments on this would be appreciated.

I'm not entirely sure of its possibility. Probably the best thing to do is just download a ROM a play it for 24hrs. I'm also thinking JoD will have most of the presents in Xmas NiGHTS, according to a magazine from long ago.

However, Karaoke is possible, and the galleries are already existent. Jukebox and A-Life will be hard to do, though.

Evidently you have no idea just how hard it is to rip from a Saturn. Many of the few programmers of this site still can't do it. Its really really hard compared to most systems. On top of that, I don't see how you could ever rip the actual game to play in that fashion. Only thing you can do is get a rom. Also, the videos presents also already exist on the site.

Yeah, I recognize the difficulties of such an endeavor. I know it prolly won't work, but I really just wanted confirmaton on this. I was wondering though, if it were possible to simply recreate it through Flash or some sort of program like this. If it were, the only hard part would to be to recreate the graphics. I also understand that the videos and photos are already available. I guess this would really just leave the Jukebox and Kareoke, which is sad, but something that is still pretty cool.

I mean, I would settle for the version of this that just did the stuff, and did not include art. Just as long as I can play around with it. :P

Flash version would still be pretty damn hard. Recreating the Sonic stage, for instance, from Xmas NiGHTS... would be hard to cram the dynamic engine into one Flash game. No offense.

Well, you can download all the songs you would hear in the Jukebox. You just have to go to the NiD official music section and scroll to the bottom of the page. You would have to manuelly change the songs if that is what you wanted and it won't be nice and easy like Christmas NiGHTS, but at least you get all the variations.

The Sonic thing isn't that great, but I can understand you wanting to see and play it. Sorry. It may be cheaper for you just to get an Action Reply 4 for the Saturn and then buy the Japanese Christmas NiGHTS. That would be a lot cheaper than the American version. That is what I had to do to get mine.

Ah yes. The NiGHTS roms. The truest forms of low framerates and choppy graphics.

You can see why I wanted to move the gifts AWAY from the Saturn's crazysane programming.

Only if you got a slow computer 83.

It can run pretty fast if, say, the internet is closed, and a good amount of those RAM-sucking programs are not up 83.

Full-speed Saturn emulation needs nothing short of a processor overclocked to 6.3 GHz and cooled by a container of liquid nitrogen the size of a Pringles can. Well, maybe not 6.3 GHz but the liquid nitrogen cooling is always a plus

But even on my desktop at home when I first played NiGHTS, ever, I was getting maybe 70-80% speed on an AMD Athlon 64 3200+ (yes, it was an illegal ISO, but a day later I bought NiD new on eBay). I'm not sure if it'll ever be 100% speed and accuracy with a Saturn emulator, as it is pretty difficult to keep eight emulated processors in sync. However, I hope they do eventually get it down; I want to run that to my TV so I can play it in 1080p! :(

Oh and making a Christmas NiGHTS-themed website wouldn't be impossible, it'd probably just be too time-consuming and require too much bandwidth to justify its implementation. Although I do like the idea.

Yes, I agree with all the other posts. It's a nice idea, but extremely hard and time consuming to implement.
