I am a fan of JPop, but I only know a few JPop artists, like Run & Gun, Utada Hikaru, and DCT (Dreams Come True). I like to listen to it, but I have a hard time finding their songs (I can't find them on Google). But once I do find their music, I'll listen to it a lot (I only have 1 Run & Gun song, and 2 Utada Hikaru songs, and I listen to them a lot).

Miyavi, Dir En Grey, X-Japan (oh gee, I'm rorally not into J-Rock <.<)
Though I must say, I'm diggin' Eri Nobuchika and Genki Rockets right now, thanks to Lumines and Lumines II D:
Also diggin' stuff like Orange Range, Road of Major, Porno Graffiti, Home-made kazoku (spelling?) etc. Also Japanese hip hop amuses me.

did Genki Rockets do anything other than Heavenly Star? Despite being a horrible excuse for a sequel, Lumines II had possibly the only jPop thing I've ever liked, their Heavenly Star song.

Apparently, an album is coming, and they debuted their new song 'breeze' (I think that's what it's called) at live earth japan 2007 (along with an awesome hologram/lightshow - youtube it now!)did Genki Rockets do anything other than Heavenly Star? Despite being a horrible excuse for a sequel, Lumines II had possibly the only jPop thing I've ever liked, their Heavenly Star song.

I'm afraid most of my exposure to JPop/Rock come from the various anime I watch... there's far too much stuff out there I can't stand for very long XD
High and Mighty Color are fairly sweet though... GRooVER has been on my mp3 player for an awful long time now XD
The Pillows are also nice (thank you FLCL XD)... I have to check out Dir en Grey sometime, they seem pretty solid.
Can anyone recommend anything in a similar vein?
Also, the Black Mages are just pure cheesy awesomeness XD

I'm not too familiar with a lot of them, but I really like The Pillows. I got to see them live when they stopped by Manhattan a couple years ago. Awesome.

YUKI is my current favorite. She is the former singer of Judy and Mary but I like her solo stuff more. I am also a big fan of Puffy (AmiYumi).
I am pretty sure they are an American group. They are indeed quite awesome though!

Apart from agreeing with a ton of the picks you guys already posted, I'd like to add Shiina Ringo to the list. I haven't heard all that much of her music, but the things I have heard... *love*
So many suggestions I need to look into~ D:

JPop? Eeeeeeh... Not really my Thing. I'm fore for JTrance and JRave. But i don't mind SOME JPop, so long as it isn't TOO Bubbly and Happy. (Puffy Ami Yumi Crud is an example off the kind of stuff i can't stand... And unfortunetly the only exapme i can think of because im not very JPop-Smart ^^; )
I don't mind Orange Range though. Although, i've only really heard one of their songs- The Opening they did for 'Bleach'. If anyone can refer me to anything else done by Orange Range, it'd be helpful ^^;

Just started spamming my playlist with Anna Tsuchiya. Wonderful voice, great smile, rock-ish music~
Some of you might have heard her music in the anime NANA.

I'd have to say that most of my knowledge of Japanese music is actually of anime and video game music...
While I do love BoA, they're not properly JPop, as they're Korean. They do sing songs in Japanese, so I suppose they do SING some JPop, but as a whole, I would put them more in the KPop category. In any case, they're still good.
The Pillows are probably my favorite JRock band. I've got all three FLCL soundtracks, which cover a good deal of their music, plus Penalty Life. Not all of the songs from Penalty Life are superb, but there are a few worth listening to. I think Mole Town Prisoner, The sun that will not rise, and the scar whispers, nobody is in paradise are probably my favorites. From FLCL, I'm a big fan of Hybrid Rainbow, Blues Drive Monster, Crazy Sunshine, Beautiful Morning With You, and Another Morning.
I also like Utada Hikaru, though I have to admit, she has a lot of songs I'm not that fond of. Favorites of mine by her include Final Distance and Fly Me to the Moon. I like her version better than Sinatra's. Her two songs from Kingdom Hearts, 光 and Passion, are both pretty good, and probably some of her best work that I've heard, and they're probably also two of her most well known songs.
Hamasaki Ayumi is definitely very good, and I have one of greatest ballads albums, A BALLADS. From this one, I like HANABI, RAINBOW, Dearest, SEASONS "2003 ReBirth Mix," and Who... "Across the Universe."
I've got a few songs on my iPod by Sakai Noriko, and she's pretty good.
I know it doesn't properly fit into the JPop category so much, but I'm also a really huge fan of anything and everything composed by Kanno Yoko. She's quite possibly one of my favorite composers of all time. I adore her stuff from Cowboy Bebop and Wolf's Rain, and I'm a great big fan of anything she wrote what's performed by Steve Conte. (He sang Rain, Heaven's Not Enough, and Stray, to name a few.) Though it's the only song I've heard from the series, Inner Universe from Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex is quite good, quite good.
One of my favorite Japanese singers is Yamane Mai, who did The Real Folk Blues and Blue from Cowboy Bebop.
More on the Korean side, I'm a big fan of the KRock band, Bulldog Mansion's Happy Birthday to Me, (thanks to sambakza), though I haven't heard anything else they've done.

Gonna be a picky TK in here, but a good deal of what's mentioned (Like TRiP mentioned Malice) Isn't Jpop, it's Jrock, or VK. >3>
I'm not going to fight that it shouldn't be in this topic though, it's more organized that way.
Anyway, I'm a HUGE Ayu fan, and I have recently discovered how much I love Tamaki Nami. Tamaki is gorgeous drawing music.
