It's an interesting question of whether or not NiGHTS is invincible. You could make the argument that if NiGHTS is mortal, Wizeman could have, would have and probably should have killed our favorite Nightmaren instead of trapping him/her in the Ideya Palace.

However, seeing as every other Nightmaren that we know of can be killed, I think it's fair to say that NiGHTS would be no exception. What say you?

Hm.. NiGHTS is also the only Maren known to merge with humans.. this may have some effect on his 'mortality' as it were.. but then again he exists independently in Nightopia and therefore could be harmed the same way others could.. augh, I cannot come up with an answer.

Well, in the game, NiGHTS can never be harmed by anything. Not even Reala or Wizeman, although it interferes with the merge. Taking away 5 seconds, it's certainly nothing that gets NiGHTS worried.
Also, he can shapeshift, right? I think the same rules from DarkSamus apply.

Like I said, based off the game, I would say that NiGHTS is invincible. After all, whenever he gets hit, he just loses time on the clock, and does not get injured. But, perhaps this has something to do with the rare Red Ideya.

Indeed. You can get hit as many times as you want, and he'll just go back to the ideya palace. I'm telling you, he's hust like DarkSamus, with the ability to regenerate. Only, total molecular disruption does not occur in dreams.

NiGHTS is a dependent being, relying on the will of the dreamer in order to exist. He cannot truly "die" but in a sense he exists solely on the condition that the dreamer is sleeping or if the dreamer really needs him. He is like a circle, meaning that he has no true beginning or end.

Anyways, I have to go with Chlorine's idea theory. The other bosses may have been defeated and forgotten (because completely overcoming your nightmares is kinda the point of the story), but Reala is more than likely meant to represent the eternal conflict inside of everybody between their "good" and "evil", so he still exists. Wizeman also could have spared Reala from an ultimate demise because Reala is the "best" maren that Wizeman has, so he's not really disposable. Wizeman was just petrified, so it's probably just some 100-year slumber of sorts because he's technically too powerful in Nightmare/Nightopia/dream world to be defeated.

That is probably the best explanation of NiGHTS's immortality that I have heard of yet, but I can see a flaw with that kind of thinking:

What about the other maren?

In the game, after being defeated, boss marens would explode and die, but if this theory holds true, then this shouldn't happen, because people will still remeber them. But it does happen, so this theory is most likely wrong. But it really appeals to me, and I feel that it ought to be true. It just doesn't make any logical sense when compared to other maren.

The other Nightmaren did do all of that, but I doubt they died. Claris and Elliot may have defeated and forgotten them, but there are thousands of others who haven't yet.

I remember my mother reading the Japanese NiGHTS booklet from the game and she told me that they are dreamt up again once they are defeated.... Though my mother isn't that great when it comes to putting Japanese into direct english meanings.


Personally I don't think marens can die. If the dream world is timeless then there is no static time of when you stay dead. I can't really explain it well...

Yeah NiGHTS could more than likely die just like all the other maren.

But well, not entirely die. When I played NiD i never thought NiGHTS killed the other maren, just simply vaporized their bodies leaving only their soul behind. Which would explain all the look-alike maren in the new game. But that's just my theory XD
