I love those books. I was actually first exposed to the series from my high school library. It had The Vampire Armand and Vittorio the Vampire, both of which I read. The first book I owned was Blood and Gold, which was given to me as a gift and is one of my top favourites from the series. I own every book in the Vampire Chronicles now, although I haven't read them in a while. The only books in the series I haven't read yet are The Tale of the Body Thief and Memnoch the Devil.

I'm not concerned about what path Anne's writing is going to next, to be honest. She finished the Vampire Chronicles a year or two ago. I may not read what she's writing now, but there are still some of her previous novels I haven't read yet that may prove to be interesting.

I read half of Interview with the Vampire and was bored to death halfway through. The characters were interesting but after a while of rambling on about crap nobody cares about it gets old.

Did you see the movie about Interview with the Vampire? That's a bit more fast-paced, though it varies a bit from the book in events. However, the costumes and actors say like Brat Pit, Tom Cruise and Antonio Banderas really make that up for most of the fangirls :(

I loved the books, the movie was actually my first real introduction with angsty slash/shounen ai/yaoi, so it still takes a big nostalgic place in my heart. I really like Marius with Armand and Lestat with Louis as couples. I think I enjoyed Interview with the Vampire, bits and pieces of Armand, Blood and Gold and Memnoch the devil and Tale of the Bodythief (especially the don't read this end part or you might hate yourself or me bit)

Also, some Italian artists, Dany and Dany, did some artworks of them in manga style which I really enjoyed some years ago. I don't like their style that much anymore now, but also, very nostalgic as they really held my hopes high at that time that an amateur artist could make it out there.

There is also supposedly a real manga about IwtV, but can't recall if it ever got beyond being in progress.

I destroyed my way through the Vampire Chronicles around middle school age. A lot of critics go after her work, but I do find the sensual, edible prose hard to look away from. I loved the Vampire Armand book in particular because she painted an ancient Venice so well and in such quirky detail that I can still recall the mental pictures. I never did find the witch books as interesting.. though I'm not sure why. Fans should try reading her 'Cry to Heaven' (about castrati singers) for it is just as lovely and full of the shonen ai.

If anyone feels more adventurous.. try the Sleeping Beauty trilogy. It's smut, quite 'alternative' and still full of her gorgeous writing. She wrote it under a pen-name but you can find it in her section at most bookstores. Exit to Eden was.. okay, another smut one, though a bit disappointing as the book got on.

Now about the reborn christian thing.... she spent her entire writing career in every subject from bondage to underage sex, homosexuality, themes on the devil, hell, and vampires.. and now she wants to be a Christian. I lol'd.

I never watched the movie. Haven't really seen it around or actively looked for it, and it was first released when I was little. I did hear it was good. I'll look into some of the stuff you mentioned, maybe. Giving this series a second try is kinda low on my 'things to do' list to be perfectly honest.

Man, I remember reading those things. Found one back in high school, and loved it. The Chronicles wasn't the first thing of hers I read, first one was the Mummy, but after that I hunted out the rest of her books to see if they were good. My fave was the Vampire Armond.

I wish she'd do another for VC, but I guess that series is over. I haven't read any of her new stuff in a long time.

...And that Sleeping Beauty set is a very interesting read. :)

Oh man... I read up to Tales of a Body Theif my Sophomore year, and up to Lasher in the Mayfair Witch Chronicles. Not to Offend anyone else, but never read that much Anne Rice in a year.

To be critical of her books, they were very inconsistant in pace, it got really tedius to read the Mayfair Witch books. I read lasher after being promised that it was much quicker than the first book (Whose name I believe was ...Mayfair something... XD;; ) And it was all a cake-esqe LIE.
