Overall Feelings of the NiGHTS Series?

NiGHTS has prolly been my favorite game for the Saturn, bar none. But not because of graphics, or music, or specs. Its because NiD is one of the few games that acutally has a soul. If a game can still hold its own for 11 years, and such a hardcore group of fans, then there is no doubt that that game has something to it that separates it from any old game. I can't say it enough; it make me incredbly happy to be around people who can appreciate that sort of quality in a game.
Thanks for the fond years, NiGHTS. My only hope is that this kind of magic can pass on to the next generation of gamers.

A game with soul.. yeah, that sounds right! I can't think of any other game in existence which has held my attention and fascination for so many years. Just ONE game from over a decade ago! Of course, NiGHTS means a lot to me on a personal level. He was, and still is, a great comfort through dark times. He reminds me that we can overcome anything, be it in dreams or reality, and when we come out the other side, it's like flying with nothing to hold us back, nothing can stop us!
Basically, what you two said :3.
NiGHTS forever attracts my attention, and it just never gets boring for me. Maybe because it's so open-ended, and yet, there's still so much to do. Even in the Saturn version.
And, then it kinda becomes, 'more' than that, with the Dream theory. It's a lot easier to actually believe in NiGHTS for me. There's just so much more of a chance he does exist, than a chance that Sonic exists.
It just strikes me as a game that's 'realistic' and still attracts me. Both story and gameplay :3.

1. The game's aesthetics give it style and personality that you just can't forget.
2. It's an innovative, fun, and infinitely replayable score attack game. Beating old scores never gets old.
3. It's whimsical. I like whimsical.

XD. i bet he could've been a great nightmare. Its those eyes, they are a trap to draw you close and then....*wham!!* you are scarred for awhile XD Run! dont look him in the eyes!Really, when you think about it, I can only imagine how scary NiGHTS could be/was as a nightmaren. Because his appearance is deceiving.

I had a thought once that he could lure a dreamer to fly with him, then go to an inner space somewhere and leave, basically trapping the dreamer in some kind of nightmare.Meh, I don't think he would be that scary...

That might be scary, because he could act nice to you, then bring you somewhere frightning and abandon you, while you call out to him to take you with him.... AHH!!! SCARY!!!!I had a thought once that he could lure a dreamer to fly with him, then go to an inner space somewhere and leave, basically trapping the dreamer in some kind of nightmare.

but back on topic!
The game itself, the story and ideas surrounding it, the fan community here, and just the entire concept of NiGHTS... all of it brings to me the best emotions. Everyone has their own take on it and it touches people in all different ways. NiGHTS is a very inspiring and powerful work of art... one that will continue on in many forms I'm sure.

I'd love to see a NiGHTS sequel that took a more artistic look to the graphics, like in Okami.

Anyone seen it before? It looks amazing, and I haven't seen it around the site at all. Maybe I just found another little piece on NiGHTS history?

In lieu of a long story, let's just say I overlooked NiGHTS twice before I actually started getting into it earlier this year. For the 11 years it's been out, I'd always seen it as that "other" game released around Mario 64 (I fell victim to the Nintendo Hype Machine; I was only eight at the time) and never really took notice even though I did own a Saturn. Once the sequel was announced my interest in the original game was very very lightly sparked and I took a shot in the dark with nightsintodreams.com my address bar. No search engines, no referral page. Just straight here I came out of luck. The game, the art, the music, the premise, the deeper meaning, the following; it all hit me at once. Within minutes I bought a new copy with the pad on eBay and waited about as impatiently as I ever had in my life for the game to get here.
NiGHTS has been really inspiring for me. It has literally been the gate to my dreams, as I had never looked into and questioned my own subconscious before. NiGHTS was the game that made me wonder what dreaming is really all about (and made me look into lucidity, which I've had good luck with so far at about one a week, I'd say). The story's been legitimately inspirational and helped me gain enough courage to drive again after a terrible accident, as well as face my vertigo head-on and stop it from limiting me in a lot of places.
I think what's gotten me the most riled up as of recent is the fact that Journey of Dreams can be promoted (as there are more Wiis out there right now than Saturns were ever made..), and the game and story can be experienced by those who weren't fortunate enough to own a Saturn, fell into the same group as me, or are themselves victims of market hype. At the bare minimum, I've made the game known to at least a hundred people around campus and will continue to do so even past the games release, and in the polar extreme, created another addict like myself (*eyes Xenon, who will probably read this post sometime soon*).
Once I get talking with people here at college about NiGHTS, it's also been quite interesting seeing just how oblivious and uptight modern gamers are who prefer Halo 3, Madden, Guitar Hero, and more of everything after gaming went mainstream near the start of the sixth generation (Microsoft vs. Sony is where the downfall began...). I even had a guy completely blow me off because there wasn't any violent content involved with the game. Compared to gamers who grew up and appreciate everything fifth gen and older, it's actually revolting seeing just how much marketing and hype has molded the public. If JoD's gonna be a success, SEGA's going to have to step up their marketing team stronger than they ever were in the past and pull off making this THE Wii game. Otherwise, in wake of Mario Galaxy's release, we're getting another into Dreams situation where JoD's going to be that "other" game......
In addition to what NiGHTS has done for me, there are of course the things I love about it on the fan level. The game controls beautifully and is as unique as they come. I absolutely love the art style and direction used for both of the games and most of the fan art I've seen (still working on doing some myself, just need better PC accessories and some motivation ^_^;). The music, frankly, is some of the best I've heard both in and out of videogames. I've grown to know and love the marens, and I really want to encounter some in my dreams...
And the community here? Comprised of some of the best people out there. You all rock. Every last one of you. I've never seen a community as nice and courteous as this one (and all of you have intelligence, something lacking from 99.7% of the forums on the internet). Thanks for everything thus far; this is a community I feel proud to be a part of. ^_^

moving on:
I think the main thing that got me into NiGHTS (aside from that jerk up there with the ESSAY posted ^.^) would have to be just the overall feel of the game. The atmosphere in the game is both cheery (music-wise) and dark (story-wise). It's one of those games that manages to fill both those criteria, and you don't see a lot of those. Truly it is a one-of-a-kind game.
I can honestly say that NiGHTS has greatly influenced me on a personal level. It's the one game that has inspired me to draw since about the eighth grade. Which is quite a step up for me.
As TRAViS stated earlier, it has also led me to start sitting down and analyzing my dreams, mostly out of curiosity more than anything. I've had several Lucid moments as well since I started playing NiGHTS. I guess I find the game most appealing due to the story behind it and the idea that there truly is a 'dream world' that we all enter when we sleep.
I'm going to leave it at that since most everything else I could say will lead to countless amounts of rambling.

My first experience with NiGHTS was at age 5, on Christmas, with the NiGHTS demo disc. Although the night is fuzzy in my memory, I can still recall NiGHTS with startling clarity, and I can still clearly remember the feeling I had inside me, as I flew NiGHTS all over the dreamscape, as I hopped and ran with Claris and Elliot on the ground, and as I watched the Nightopians go about their business. Despite my tender age, I knew already that I had to have this game, this incredible creation.
So, after convincing my parents, I finally bought NiD, on that faithful afternoon at the mall, and as soon as I got home, I was glued to my TV. I may not have been good at the game, or I may not have understood it completely, but I knew this game was special. Ever time I played, I had a feeling in me, as if I wasn't just sitting in front of a television with a controller in my hand, but rather flying through the dreams, soaring and playing.
Ever since then, I cherish the time I play NiD. Things may have changed for me, but it stills occupies the same spot it always has in my heart. I may have gotten better, and I may understand it better now, but NiGHTS still captures me in ways I can't truly describe. Just as well, as I have grown older, I have learned to appreciate NiD more.
Unfortunately, this story has a not so happy ending. Several years ago, after moving from our old place to our current residence, I somehow lost my NiGHTS disc. Tradegy had befallen me, and my gaming universe hasn't been the same since. I miss that game oh so dearly.
So, in order to bring back that feeling, to awe at the graphics, and the gameplay, I have vowed to myself that by the end of this year, I shall have NiGHTS into Dreams.
So, in short, NiGHTS roolz.

I love NiGHTS for many reasons. It was released at a turning point in my life. An the themes set forth and the bits left to the imagination left more for me to be captured within. Each feature complimented the other to the point where you'd easily find yourself entirely consumed in the atmosphere. What I took out of the game besides the epic tale of "Follow your dreams" etc, was that there is more to your dreams than what many want to believe. Along with so many other personal truths that have followed. NiGHTS definitely was a positive guide down this path.

I always felt that the original had more of an alluring aura of mystery, which in some ways can be interpreted as darker. To prove my point, stare at either the cover of the game or an image of Twin Seeds Tower for a while, and try to sense how you feel when looking at those images.I feel the original game was darker while the new one seems to be coming off as pretty cheery. I don't know why I think of it this way. I guess that's why I liked the first on so much because it felt a little dark. Maybe it was the artwork. Maybe it was the graphics. I don't know.

NiGHTS has helped me in so many ways!! I've gone through alot of dark times of not believing in myself, feeling scared, and majority of the time being depressed! Somtimes I still get into that same situation today, but NiGHTS helps me and gives me courage to overcome fears that I have each and everytime!! It's difficult for me to explain this feeling in words. *is starting to tear up* I'm sorry to be crying like this........... NiGHTS has helped me sooooo much and still continues to aid me today! ............ I'm sorry...I'm... starting to get too emotional right now.....

Yeah I see what your talking about. It does have a mysterious feel to it. Glad to know it wasn't just me.
