The biggest issue I had at first was that NiGHTS had a voice at all. ^^;; I wasn't against voice acting, it was just weird for me. You see, because he rarely uttered a sound in the original game, I figured that perhaps he had another way of communicating rather than vocally. I settled for broadband empathy, which my brain translated as the ability to pick up the emotions of others and transmit one's own emotions, and through those convey a meaning. I had a dream about it once; it actually works somehow. Oo()

In any case, the voice is fine once you get used to it, it just kinda came as a shock despite knowing ahead of time there would be VAs. XD

And I agree with what everyone's put up so far, especially the points on why it's a good thing NiGHTS is being given a more feminine voice. I think it fits his personality better than a more masculine voice would have. Even if it DOES lean more toward female than some of us would like, it still allows him to remain androgynous and still keep his unique personality without our petty gender stereotypes getting in his way.
A quick word on the hentai bit:

Internet Rule 34: If it exists, there's porn of it somewhere on the internet. No exceptions.

I agree! I think since NiGHTS has a playful personality, they chose to give him a female voice to suit that personality! ^_^ And maybe when we actually see him talk it won't be that bad! ^_^

When I first saw NiGHTS,sure,I thought NiGHTS was a girl.But now...no matter how I look at it,NiGHTS seems like a boy to me.I doesn't matter about the eyelashes,the playful nature,the suit,or the smile...NiGHTS still seems like a boy.Heh,the eye of the beholder I guess. ;)

I always saw NiGHTS as both.. easy when I'm fairly androgynous too. I think some people see NiGHTS in terms of what they're attracted to, and 'he' is easier for some people to use when a person is indetermined or both, but I don't think a femme voice will bother me. Now, if that voice actor sucks into the ground, that'll bother me.

hmmm..i like the thought of NiGHTS being andro but it suprises me that they are leaning towards a female like ..thing..too early..you get the picture i hope. It's odd to me because NiGHTS has almost always been seen as boyish. like in the archie release comics and so on. The only thing i've ever seen a female NiGHTS in was that Rikkdo Koshi thing in the comics section.

I personally think that NiGHTS isin't defined until he links with someone like merging with Eliot causes NiGHTS to be male and Vice Versa for Claris...

I actually think that the Sonic scripts are rather good.

The problem here is that they are good for a high-speed-robot-fighting-kickass blue hedgehog.

Very different from our favorite elegant DreamDemon.

AS for the gender...

I've never seen NiGHTS as being androgynous.

I've always thought that the best way to explain this issue, is that you choose what his/her gender is.

For example, I'm a guy, but I see her as a girl. meanwhile my friend Firemastrr, also a guy, sees him as a guy.

Like Mega Man ZX! (gets pwned for comparing NiGHTS to Mega Man)

I really hope that JoD isn't screwed up like Sonic Next and the Altered Beast remake. NiGHTS' voice may take me a while to get used to, especially when I heard NiGHTS talking to Will. A woman's voice?!?!? NiGHTS did have a high pitch squeal when he gets hit back in the original game.

It makes me wonder what Reala will sound like in JOD. That eerie alien like "THERE IS NO NiGHTS!" I still remember well.

When my mom heard the Will and NiGHTS conversation she said they both sound like 2 young boys talking!

But, I love the way NiGHTS sounds, and I still see him as male! ^_^
