Being a person with little free cash and paranoid-about-ebay parents, finding a saturn and NiGHTS irl is pretty much impossible for me. I mentioned getting an emulator working before, but it crashed after I beat splash garden, stupid thing. >.> Today I finally got it to work again, and beat Gillwing with a 1.7 bonus on my first try! (I Have NO idea how I got the 1.7 and it's probably a fluke but still) To make this seem not just a gloating topic, here's two questions for you guys. One: How well did you do against Gillwing your first try? Two: What comes to mind when I say, 'Playing NiGHTS with a keyboard'?

T-T. I know how you feel with both.

Err... I tried running NiGHTS on an emulator, but I gave up after I realized not everyone in the fandom liked people running NiGHTS on emulators *shrugs*.

Anyway, I might get an iso for NiGHTS sometime (I would prefer not to use my own CD), and I can answer to the two questions for you.:

1.) About 1.7! Got 1.8, or 1.5 ...
2.) Difficult, and possibly harder. It depends...

Yeah, I hear that. It is illegal after all..unless you actually own it or delete it after 24 hours.. Which I probably will. Can you blame me for wanting to try it?

Lol, it's actually pretty funny to watch me play, since A, I suck, and B, NiGHTS is not meant for keyboards. If I knew how to make videos of my antics I would so you guys could get a laugh or two.

I know how both of you feel.. DX
I found the game but never found a working Saturn nor will my parents let me get it on online.
Finding a working Saturn under those conditions is much harder than finding a used NiGHTS game at a local used game store than and "True NiGHTS fans" claim that you aren't one because of stupid stuff like that.

Anyways I suggest that an iso is made of the game that you own if you have an old cd rom drive like I do.
Next would be having a desent computer for it to play on. (My cuz plays it on a Tobashiba Laptop -_- ... not fair...) For me I never made an iso of the game and just used it's CD... lags really bad...

Edit:

No one pays attention to that stuff... >.>

Either way no one really cares other than the people still making money off the game but they wouldn't take the time to track you down anyhow. XD

Let's make a club! The " People who like NiGHTS but haven't played it!" (PWLNBHP) club! We can whine about how we want it all day!

So does my iso if it gets movement heavy. How slow is yours?

Mine use to start out fine but then when game play came around it would total lag out by the second stage.
Now I can't play it at all...

Yah. Anyone who likes NiGHTS is a NiGHTS Fan. It doesn't matter how you play it, and, for that matter, if you even do, and if someone goes out of their way to tell you that you aren't a fan because you played it on an emulator, you can go tell them to bug off :/.

Good luck on that last part...
(I've been searching for over 4 years now for a working Saturn in local used game stores; they tell me when they get Saturns they are usually broken beyond repair. T_T)

My compy is pretty crappy. (It's a dell) and it can run NiGHTS okay. It does slow down a bit but nothing too bad.

I too tried to use an emulator for NiD, but it doesn't have the same feel as playing it on the actual Saturn.

I actually have a working Saturn, so I haven't really used one. But, it is good if your looking around to buy new games and you want to test them out before you buy them. B)

The only reason i ever tell anyone to just get a second hand saturn instead of using an Emu is you spend more time faffing around with a slow PC, missing BG music and lag (unless you have a decent PC) and it drains the game experience a little. I want people to experience the game the way it was made, not sloppy seconds. Though, i know some people have good PC's that run it just fine, so hey, that's ok, but working Saturns arent that hard to get a hold of so it's up to the game player.

Its sort of like watching a pirate DVD with some donk walking across the cinema screen to go for a whizz. Spoils it a bit.

My PC runs at the speed of pie. Therefore i use my original Saturn. Makes sense XD

I wonder, are there any Mac Saturn emulators out there? My PC is super-powerful, so since my Saturn died about 2 years ago, I could use it on that, but they I'd have to use the keyboard. I'd rather use my Wii remote/classic controller I have set up with this thing on the game.

Here's one. It's compatible with NiD. I honestly don't use emulators a lot anymore, though, so I can't really help you with anything beyond this point >_>...

Edit: Ok. I've heard Yabause can be somewhat buggy at times (It's not called "Yet Another Buggy and Uncomplete Saturn Emulator" for nothing XD;; ), but it does have the Euro and US versions of NiGHTS Into Dreams on the compatible list. My advice is to try it, if you want. I might later, if I download an iso (I handle mah Saturn NiD Very carefully XD;; ).

So I can take this as proof that it IS better in Scotland.

Saturns are hard to come where I live.
I have every used game store ready to call me when they get a Saturn that works and for the past oh lest say 3 to 4 years... nata.
Ebay... parents find it too unreliable so I'm not able to get it through there.
(I've been trying to convince them for years but they say if I get one there it would probably work one day then &^%$ out on me the next so it wouldn't be worth getting it from such a source. ect. ect.)

I can see the points on both sides, but why should it be such a bit deal to the government whether or not someone does use an emulator? Its not like the company who made the game is going to make anymore off of it. :)

Nintendo company doesn't believe that other wise they wouldn't be forcing people to take their famous products off the site. (Then again I think they may have given up...)

It's derogatory Brittish slang for a gay man, that's why. Had to look it up myself ^^;

Back on topic, finding a Saturn was pretty easy for me, so I've never had to use an emulator. It's been a while since I last saw one for sale though.

I can help you with looking for bios however, relize that since its not your own bio dump that it is illegal for you to own any other than your own. I wont discuss where to get stuff like this or how it works over the forums, pm me if you want the help.

But I have my doubts that anyone would use that word in that manner on this forum. (I would assume that they would ban that person right away if they did.)

I've got 2 Saturns in the garage and my NiGHTS box (with analogue pad) sat next to me but I still use an emulator 'cause it's a faff to set up the console just for one game on the odd occassion. Using SSF and it works perfectly (no need for a bios, no menu glitches as many emus give and I can play using my 360 pad). In fact I played with the settings one night and the game actually ran slightly faster than normal and felt amazing.

wow. I wish I could do that. For the record, I don't like using the emulators either. I agree, there's no replacement for the real thing. I'd love to actually use an ANALOG STICK. But until my parents become not paranoid about ebay or other such websites, or I get my own source of cash/account, I'm stuck.

SSF is very very slow. I use Cassini but it plays like crap until I do somethings. Then the only thing bad is the music. God the music is terrible. I'm trying to get a job so I can buy the actual game and Christmas NiGHTS as well. eBay here I come :(

Huh, I use Cassini and it only lags a little bit. The music is a little iffy too, but mostly on the 'after boss fight music'. Otherwise it's not that bad.

My mate found an Saturn emulator and an *.iso of NiGHTS for me not too long ago. I'm not sure if it's the .iso or the emulator, but it crashes on Claris's levels (I assume it's the .iso because all of Elliot's play fine). When I get some extra cash, I'm going to buy the NiGHTS disc, whether from e-bay or a local store. hehe

I built my computer myself and it's pretty top-notch even for being two years old, so I don't have any problem running the Saturn emulator. I heard some rumor about the Saturn having an extra chip that nobody knows what it was for. Rumor says it was for graphics, which would explain why even most PCs can't emulate it properly.

I would have just been glad if only that one level had worked though. I loved NiGHTS before I ever played it, and when I finally played it I nearly died of joy. It's just such an inspirational game. After actually being able to play it, I can say I will definitely purchase it once I get some extra money.

Must be your PC then. Like I said, it's flawless on mine if not quicker than the original at times.

Alt+Enter fullscreens it by the way, and then the extra options for direct3d to be used kick in which might help, but I tend to play windowed anyway cause otherwise it streches to widescreen on my monitor.

I was lucky when I went to rebuy NiGHTS after selling my original plus Saturn oh so many years before. I got a Saturn a year or so ago for about £30 with 8 games (including the NiGHTS box with pad), 2 demo discs, extra cables and pads and mint condition guides for the original Tomb Raider and NiGHTS.

Good luck getting Christmas NiGHTS though. Last time I looked it was going for silly money.

You can buy analog USB joysticks at most retail stores with a computer/gaming section. I only have a USB D-Pad because I had originally gotten it so I could play my old-butt "Sonic CD" PC version (way back from 98!).

Probably not a good idea because I don't think TRiPPY supports the uses of emulation.
(Technically illegal if you don't own either the game and the system.)

Seeing as most people on this forum do own a Saturn and the game, I see no problem with emulation.

But, then again, if a person already owns a Saturn and the game it would kinda defeat the purpose of emulation.

I believe it got more to do with the lagging and music disappearing than it being illegal, but even then the game's pretty easy to find.

Xmas NiGHTS, on the other hand... I have a copy, but it didn't come cheap.

I'm not fluent in the programming, but I can tell you that Sega programmed the Saturn in such a way that it made it very difficult to code games for it. It's the same reason (coding) that even the more advanced coders cannot emulate it (the Saturn) properly. The emulator I'm using had a message board that stated the emulator will work with the original discs (and they do not provide .iso's of any games), but each computer has to be set differently even if they have similar specs, and with each game you have to adjust, as well. As I mentioned in a previous post, from what I understand, it had two processors and then there was a 3rd chip that was mysteriously there (and they wouldn't waste the money to put a chip in if it wasn't used, it'd be too expensive). It's the third chip that makes it even more difficult to emulate. :/

So...heh.
