What gender are you, and how do you see NiGHTS?

...
That wasn't a choice though, so I voted "androgynous".

I've actually grown fond of the idea that he can change genders at will, so he can relate to the particular dreamer more directly.
I actually have a character just like that... that I made before I got into NiGHTS. He's technically a gender-less alien, but I refer to him as male. I suppose I just attatched that view to NiGHTS.
Funny Thing though:
Mom: He looks really girly... for a guy.
Me: Well, he doesn't really have a gender.
Mom: Oh. *pause* So I'm just gonna call him a she now.

Exactly what everyone I know says! That is, except for my mom. She said:Funny Thing though:

Mom: Oh. *pause* So I'm just gonna call him a she now.
"So is he...gay?"
"No, he's both." (me)
"What?!"
*laughing* "He's a boy AND a girl."
*groan* "That's even worse."

I usually call NiGHTS "he" though--mostly for ease of use.

Well, I'm female, and I've always seen NiGHTS as androgynous. The idea of attaching a gender to a dream creature just always seemed silly to me. And it makes sense to me that s/he would become more feminine or masculine to relate to individual dreamers.
I see Reala as genderless too, but he looks too manly to refer to him as such.

That's because, back when I didn't know what he was, to me he didn't look like a girl, so he was a boy by default.
So even after I learned that he was actually genderless or whatever, I kept seeing him as male.
Though because of his voice in Journey of Dreams, now I tend to see him as genderless sometimes.

Original NiGHTS I still tend towards male, but JoD NiGHTS seems more feminine. Probably the voice and the fact that I've only played Helen's story.
(Well, that and she's pretty much opposite to Reala in every way possible... so if he's the masculine one...)

In NiD, he seemed more like a little boy between the ages of 7 and 15. I still view him as male, enough though he's got that high pitched squeal of a voice, but when he shouts "APTIVA!" he sounds more like an exasperated boy.
In JoD, WHY does everyone think s/he has

Well, I just think the character comes off as more feminine in JoD, but I agree with you about the original. Maybe when I see Will's story, I'll see the balance more. But s/he is definitely physically androgynous... that hasn't changed. In JoD, WHY does everyone think s/he has
Spoiler?

I am female and view NiGHTS as a hermaphrodite.

This one.
Except I'm a male.

Though I still tend to think of him as male...a very feminine male. XD

I always thought of him as male (heck, I still use male pronouns, as you can see) before I played JoD and heard the voice. Then I went "Wait a minute...it's a girl?" O.o; But after I looked up stuff online and encountered the genderless/androgynous explanations, I completely and willingly adopted them. ^^ I had actually just previously written a story about a character with no physical gender.
But, lol, I recently took my NiGHTS and Reala plushies to Japanese class for show-and-tell, and the first question the teacher asked after my presentation was "Is it a boy or a girl?" (In Japanese) XD Yeah, that always comes up.

One of my friends and I have a running debate over whether Sheik is male or female. I say either male or pretending to be male, and he says female.
I could go on about reasons why and all of that, but no reason to hijack the thread.

Although I first saw NiGHTS as, "he" but then I looked at a forum in a gaming website that said that NiGHTS was genderless. I believed that, it is very plausible after all.

But isn't it funny? Nobody ever seems to question Reala's gender. As NiGHTS sibling, wouldn't he/she hard to figure out too? Something about Reala screams "male."

Actually I have. In the beginning I couldn't tell for sure, but I ended up concluding that Reala was just a female with a very deep voice (reminds me a bit of Grace Jones). But that changed when I got Journey of Dreams. Now he/she has suddenly scrapped the make-up and wears a mask instead, and the voice is undoubtly male.
So as far as I'm concerned, Reala in NiD is female, and Reala in JoD is male. I guess I've accepted the fact that sex change operations can occur in the dream world.

On a sidenote, I've never seen Reala as androgynous. Even though Nights and Reala should be equals, I think they've always tipped the scales to make Reala male. He's got beefy arms, a masculine voice, and the only dreamer we ever saw him dualize with was Roger, in the Archie comics. Seems unfair to me.
I could digress into my fanfic-like argument of, "Maybe Wizeman created Reala first, as a male, but he was imperfect because he had a gender (seriously, we all understand about hormones and so on). Thus, Nights was created last, and was perfect because he was genderless." Blah blah blah...

Same to Reala,but not handsome.

When I first saw him I couldn't think which gender he is.

Though NiGHTS can gender shift according to the visitor dualized with him.
I have no idea but right now I felt like NiGHTS being genderless disturbs me. :S
Anyway, he is genderless, why should he have a gender? Nightmarens dont reproduce.

Quenn Bella, Bomamba, Wizeman and Reala seems they have certain genders but they are genderless too.

My reasoning is that I usually call NiGHTS "he," but I am absolutely okay with whenever someone calls NiGHTS "she" as well.
If I met someone in person who believes that NiGHTS is female, I will let him or her know that I personally believe NiGHTS is male or androgynous, and for the sake of arguement I will refer to NiGHTS as "she" if I were to have a conversation about NiGHTS with the said person, to make things less confusing.
Also, purple is a combination of pink and blue (or red and blue, if you want to use primary colors). Purple is in between one color and the other; transitional, if you will. It's been my #1 favorite color from the very beginning, which tells me a lot about myself.

I think it's because of her pink/purple outfit, her big eyelashes, and her not-muscular body. All characteristics most associated with girls, in our society.
And SEGA giving her a female voice in JoD, just enforced my view of NiGHTS as a girl.

Thats why I call NiGHTS a boy, and thats why i voted that thats how i see NiGHTS. It's very important to be distinctive about seeing, though. The way NiGHTS seems to work is that he makes all sorts of changes to himself depending on whose dream he's in. It isn't necessarily genderal and such, but also things like that vest in JoD, and other things of that sort. I see NiGHTS as a boy, but i would never argue that he's solely a boy, and if i ever had to leave my dreams with him to enter someone elses like in the games (i wish), i'd have to accept that he changes depending on whose dreaming. But if no one is dreaming, but rather the fanbase is talking, i use He because that's what he'd be in my dreams if he ever were to enter them. Which would be totally awesome.
EDIT: Also, Reala always struck me as a female, but thats just from art I've seen, considering that i've yet to get a copy of JoD.

I know this topic is very old, but I figured I'd throw my two cents in here! I'm a female, and I've always seen NiGHTS as a male. Before I played the games I saw some screenshots and I assumed NiGHTS was male for some reason and never bothered to check if I was right (whoops!).
Of course after more research and finding this site I understand now that NiGHTS is androgynous, however it's still ingrained in my head from years ago that something about him reads as "male" to me, so I still see NiGHTS as a male.
JoD didn't help though; I do agree with some that NiGHTS seems to be more on the feminine side in terms of voice and appearance, but that hasn't changed how I see him.
