New patch released!

I'm not sure if there are other changes yet. I got the impression that NiGHTS seems to move faster than before, although that could just be the snappier controls making it seem that way. I'll leave the more detailed analysis to the experts here I'll also make a new video showing the comparison between the old and new version. Also, thanks to all the people that contacted Sega about the control problems, and of course Sega themselves for listening to the fans!

Still though srsly if Sega actively fixed something in the game they should post a blog about it. Maybe they will.

I just tried but I didn't get an update for the PS3. The problem wasn't as pronounced on the PS3 version from what I could tell either, although my time playing that version was limited. I'd appreciate it if someone could confirm my initial impressions of the patched XBox360 version as I'm starting to doubt myself here (although comparing the video I just made now and the one before the patch, the difference really seems to be there).I just played the game on the PS3 and I didn't notice a difference. I'm going to re-download the game since I assume it didn't automatically detect the patch and updated the game with it. If what you say is true, Sega has my undying love.

Have been playing through again and keep getting "new record" effortlessly.
Must admit, I was one of those who thought this patch was extremely unlikely. I was persuaded by members of this forum to contact Sega about this and I'm so glad it's actually happened - well played guys!!!
Only downside is, now when I mess up I won't be able to blame the controls.

The patch either increased the speed of dash or made links more forgiving. I used Mare 1 of Spring Valley and Mare 3 of Twin Seeds to test this. In SV M1, you can now hold the dash button down and easily complete a 25 link without having to let up on dash (yes, I know 28 is the max, but I never go for those three dumb stars). In TS M3, I used the link ball to test if the patch allows the player more time to keep a link going. I can complete it about 50% of the time now. That's an improvement from before but nothing conclusive.
No fix for any of the messed up bosses. Clawz still won't ignite mice rockets as often as he should, hit detection on Gulpo still sucks, Gillwing still starts out in an immediate dive, and the camera on Puffy's stage is still wonky.
Top down sections still plays slow. Frame rate still likes to drop near the Mystic Forest parking garage.

Do you not think that as far as the handling goes it is a vast improvement? I can pull off much tighter paraloops now and Nights moves in circles instead of jerky octagons or whatever. I'm sure there is more subtle flexibility to the drill dash as well. All of Nights' movement seems faster and lighter to me.

True analog control has definitely been reenabled. I was just commenting on some of the other things that they fixed or neglected to fix.

Maybe because I downloaded today about 6pm, it may be fixed from the get go because it seems to play smooth as I remember and not like the comparison version(though they used xbla version)Can anyone confirm its updated.
Also sorry for unrelated, but I got a score of 158xxx in spring valley but I remain unranked even though there scores lower then that in the top 1000.
Edit I just realized I downloaded the us version but was playing on my UK psn account. Ill try agian later
Edit2 I got 184xxx and its up now to improve

I didn't spend a lot of time testing the PS3 version. At first I thought it had the same problem, but after playing it again recently it does seem like the controls there were already analog from the start (even though I honestly thought they were worse before, but the game version is still at 1.00). I do think the PS3 controller is just not very well suited for the game compared to the XBox360 controller. I'd basically need to use some kind of converter to really test if both versions are really the same. The question I do have though is whether or not NiGHTS moves as fast on the PS3 version as on the newly patched XBox360 version. That I'm not so sure about. Do any of the experts here know an easy way to test this?Maybe because I downloaded today about 6pm, it may be fixed from the get go because it seems to play smooth as I remember and not like the comparison version(though they used xbla version)Can anyone confirm its updated.

Sega should make a post on their blog about the patch to bring it to people's attention. They might as well use that as a reason to bring the game in the news again.I now wish every reviewer would review Nights again post-patch. Now the controls are sorted the first time impact of Nights' speed and gracefulness is restored and the greatness of the original is retained. I would not have thought as much of Nights had I played it for the first time with stiff controls..

Separate comment- It's funny, the differences in how the port currently handles have become much more apparent since playing it again on the Saturn yesterday.

I know the overhead section in MF is still slow on both versions, so I don't think the other perspectives were part of the patch. I can live with it since it's just a couple of areas.NiGHTS on the PS3 got an update; quickly played some Spring Valley and Splash Garden; linking definitely seems faster and shinier; the top-down section in SG still seemed like it might be a tad slow though. Maybe someone with both versions can get a feel for the latest handling on both consoles.

Edit: Upon re-installing the game, the PS3 detected the patch and now the controls are fixed. Now to keep my end of the bargain and purchase the 360 version as well as the PC version when that comes out. Sega has my undying loyalty again.
