Well, I'm really grateful of SEGA, I really liked the HD release, but the remakig itself was very rushed up apparently, many things weren't done correctly. (Yes, I said remaking, since it uses a completely different engine compared to the Sega Saturn release). Still, the game itself is great, the graphics are wonderful, but it could be better.

Per example, a few things that I don't like about the releases (they're mainly technical, and programming details):

*The SFX quality is not the best, it wasn't recorded correctly from the Sega Saturn game.
*During the gameplay, the BGM plays so loud, that SFX's can almost not be heard.
*The colission system is weird, when NiGHTS touches the ground, he/she gets stuck for a few seconds.
*Stick Canyon looks extremely dark.
*NiGHTS movement feels different, it's not fluid as it used to be in the Saturn, in fact, is very stiff.
*In some boss levels, the sky domes are incomplete: per example when you fight agaisn't gillwing, you can see aproximately four suns/moons when you turn arround the level.

I could list a few more, but I don't remember them all.

I agree about certain small details being overlooked, though none of them really bug me all that much. Except for maybe the kids being a bit too lanky, it still puts me off a bit. And yeah I thought it was just me getting NiGHTS stuck in the ground. I can also say that I was expecting more detail in the boss levels, I don't know what but just something a little extra with them maybe? Though there were certain changes, like Stick Canyon being so dark (I actually used to hate that level but somehow I like it a lot more now), that I really liked. And the clarity still blows me away. But yeah it'd be nice for certain technical details to be fixed up.

As for the SFX and BG music, the volume can be lowered for both. Go to the Help & Options>Settings menu. And I thought there had always been two suns in Gillwing's place?

I fired up my Saturn version earlier now that I've been playing the HD remake for almost a month just to see the differences. The main difference I've found is the speed. The Saturn version is a hell of a lot faster. And it's because of that speed you can kill the bosses easier and keep your links up during the game. Which makes it so much easier getting higher scores on the Saturn. I was amazed at how easy it was to keep the links up on the Saturn after not playing it in a long time and becoming used to how much harder it is on the HD version.

That said, the graphics really are shocking on the Saturn...and I was finding it hard to overlook now that I'm living in a HD dreamworld. I'm loving what they have done with the HD remake in terms of cleaning up the graphics...the game really does look beautiful - it's such a joy to watch. If only the controls and speed were on par with the Saturn we would of been on a winner. But I guess we can't have it all right. I'm willing to overlook the imperfections now...

And you're right about NiGHTS getting stuck when he gets in contact with the ground or roof...it really is frustrating...

I would have preferred a version of Christmas NiGHTs with all the gifts. Also, I find the ps3 controller harder to use with NiGHTs than a Saturn controller, but it might just be a matter of what I'm used to. The controller is very good for acrobatics.

One observation- tricks and the airbrakes seem to work a bit less consistently in the port.

And once more, was the music track "After the Dream" omitted in the PS2 version as well? I see only "Message from Nightopia" plays at the end of a level.. d'oh

I might be wrong, but I think certain conditions have to be met for "After the Dream" to play. I think it either happens when you fail to get a decent grade or fail to get on the scoreboard at all. Pretty sure it's at least in the sound test menu. I'll have to check...

Edit: So a purposely did a terrible run to see if "After the Dream" would play. Nope. Got a D overall and did not qualify for the scoreboard, but the game still played "Message from Nightopia." "After the Dream" is in the sound test menu though. The only other thing I can think of is if it has something to do with whether you've finished the game or not. Otherwise, yeah, it seems to be an oversight.

After the Dream is supposed to play when you set a high score.
