Just when I thought all was lost, I gave Saturn Mode a swing. Maybe I'm imagining things, but the controls actually feel...managable! I was able to pull an 80 link in Soft Museum (something I can't even get close to doing in HD Mode). Now I just gotta get a little more used to the 360 stick, and I should be able to post some REAL high scores!

Saturn mode definitely feels better, whenever I'm trying for a score I usually play in Saturn mode.

Brand New Dream is zoomed in a bit. You get more top and bottom in SS mode, I think that's the difference.

Yeah I think SS mode is a little bit easier just because the screen isn't as large.
Does anyone know if the widescreen HD version allows you to see more of the gameplay or if it simply stretches it? I'll have to check...
If it stretches it that would cause more issues with the controls because a circle would be more like an oval.

Comparing the videos I recorded, they look the same to me. The UI is stretched in Saturn mode since it's still using the old UI designed for 4:3, otherwise the view looks the same. I didn't post a comparison of the Saturn mode in my video since the controls seemed identical. May have to do some more research.

I mean the game still locks into set paths when I'm flying, but I just have a much easier time coping with the controls in Saturn Mode. If it's because I can see more of the environment and react faster to what's coming up ahead of me, that might just be it.

The view and control precision seems to be the same to me, but perhaps it has less input lag which would basically translate in more responsive controls. So basically that would mean NiGHTS would react faster when you change direction or press a button in the Saturn mode because of the reduced graphics (think of how progamers often run their games in very low graphics settings to get higher framerates and less lag). I haven't really played the Saturn mode enough to say whether or not that's the case, it's difficult to test. The core controls seem to behave in the same way though.
