By Naka's own admission, he's entertaining the idea of possibly consulting on new Sonic games, and potentially NiGHTS as well.

To be honest even if Naka returns to SEGA I doubt that NiGHTS into Dreams will be revived as the gaming industry has dramatically moved on since the 90's, there would be no place in the current market, unless they gave NiGHTS boobs and Reala a gun, quite a hyperbole yes but that is what sells nowadays, I hate to say it.
If this is real I don't think Naka is being realistic, SEGA needs to survive and they aren't in a position to gamble. I don't think upping the difficulty with Sonic wouldn't hurt but with NiGHTS I think that is too much of a gamble.

The big games that sell millions of copies are one thing; Max Payne 3 is heavily advertised on tv right now, for example. NiGHTS isn't and will never be that kind of game. But I think there is a market, considering downloadable games like Journey and Limbo and such; games that are more akin to NiGHTS. Part of the frustration, I think, a lot of NiGHTS fans felt about how JoD was handled was that it diminished the ability for the franchise to pick up as much fresh steam as it could have. But through it all the NiGHTS fanbase remains vocal, hopefully Sumo is responding to the previous campaign for ASRT. I read in another article that was supposedly from a Sega employee that there are talks about porting the PS2 version of NiD, as far as that's going..
But back to Naka, this new view is certainly a different one from how he felt years back, perhaps the lack of success he's had with Prope contributes to this; now he's more willing to come back to the games that made him an industry icon to begin with.

Naka did kind of go that way in his "spiritual sucessor" to nights.
Quote:
"The game itself is an action title that takes place in the sky. The action gameplay is what I'm focusing on the most with this project -- interactivity is the most important attraction with any sort of game, and if that doesn't evolve, then games won't be everything they can be. Sonic was all about completely taking over the land, and Nights brought that same concept into the skies. I had always thought that action games that take place in the sky are too hard for players to cope with, but then I thought up a new method for dealing with it. That's how this project got started. If I had stuck around at Sega, then I might have used this concept to make a sequel to Nights!"

I do see Sega putting the port of ps2/Saturn though and thats the way it should be. He already stated and shown in Jid that just classic arcade gameplay is a thing of the past.

...they gave NiGHTS boobs and Reala a gun
Made by the same people that made Shadow The Hedgehog!
Seriously though, I think it will happen eventually, if only for the fact that big companies are starting to recycle old ideas more and more.
