Sonic 20th Anniversary site has opened ...though in Japanese.

There's also this image flying about right now - can you say "old skool" ?

I went on the SEGA blogs last night and all the crazy fans are asking for Sonic Adventure 3. Lol, this ain't gonna be no Sonic Adventure 3, children.

Someone strap a Flux Capacitor to Sonic's back and tell him to run at 88mph. XD

I don't mean to troll but it makes me think about how little of Sonic's time existing has actually been high quality.

He was a recognized gaming superstar from 1991-1994 with another peak in popularity in 1999-2000. If you want to be REALLY generous, you could call that continuous and say there were highly-regarded Sonic games from 1991-2000. Still less then half of his time.
There have been well-received Sonic games in the past decade, but they were all handheld titles.

I feel like I've written this post before... IDK.

I'm still collecting the Archie Sonic comics, which I started when I was about 7 years old. (I'm 24 now.)

Someone strap a Flux Capacitor to Sonic's back and tell him to run at 88mph.

And the winner for best Sonic CD sprite hack goes to...

While the whole celebration may seem a bit odd if only because the game quality has tanked in this decade, it's worth noting that he's still a wildly recognized mascot and gamers new and old are aware of the Sonic Team's 16-bit glory days. Sonic remains that staying relic of the 90s, the first (if not only) game mascot with both staying power and an "attitude."

And the game quality this decade has only tanked on consoles, it seems. The Nintendo handheld iterations have done well both critically and commercially, or so it seems. I still think Sonic Advance 2 is the best Sonic game I've played since the Genesis era...

So they missed Space Channel 5's 10th anniversary, but not Sonic's 20th?

I guess I'm getting Sc5 Part 2 on Ps3 though, so it's all good...

I hadn't been that excited while watching a trailer since NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams was first being shown.

(seriously, don't look at the spoiler if you haven't seen the trailer because you're going to want to feel that initial reaction when you finally see what I"m referring to) dropping in instantly made me go, "OH sh!t!" I can not WAIT!

Time will tell if it's any good. It's kind of hard for me to get too excited about it though. My biggest gripe about Sonic 4 was there was too little originality in the level design and bosses and these gameplay demos open us up to the umpteenth iteration of Green Hill Zone. Although I have yet to touch it at least Sonic Colors caught my attention by looking fresh and new.

I'm not especially optimistic but as always I hope to be pleasantly surprised. I just get that bad vibe that Sega is trying to bank on nostalgia factor again but going about it a different way from Sonic 4.

Sega can't win. If they do something new, the fans revolt. If they stick to formula, fans revolt. I'm hoping that if they ever make another episode to Sonic 4, it will move beyonds the requisite Green Hill Clone and explore other motifs.

From the video it looks as if the game has uncurling, but RubyEclipse has apparently confirmed from a play test that there is no forced uncurling

I'm unsure what to think.

Part of me looks forward to a new Sonic game, a part of me realizes that the glory days of Sonic have long passed.

Whatever he had, he lost it long ago.

True statement. But considering they've been pimping out the Genesis classics on every system imaginable for so long I'm inclined to give them more kudos for trying new locations with new visual appeal, once again such as in Sonic Colors.

Hopefully the fans will back off a little on their opinions with this game. Especially after the incident in Japan. That would set things back greatly. Still I hope the fans will enjoy it. I know I will.

Schweet. Gameplay hasn't loaded yet, but the trailer was pretty neato. After Sonic Colors, I'm fairly confident Sonic Team can pump out another good one.

Edit: Gameplay looks fantastic. Modern looks like more of Unleashed, which is A-O-K with me. Classic...is...just...well... -sniff- ...it's just great. When I saw Sonic's legs making that loop, I was like -cry-

classic play in Generations officially does not have uncurling

also check out the video after that for a playthrough of modern style Green Hill, which looks real nice too

(should we make a new topic for this game at some point? lol)

According to Sonic News Network (the wiki), ALL BOSSES are exclusive to the 3DS version, so, the ACTUAL game won't have any bosses...?

3DS modern gameplay is akin to Sonic Rush. Also, there will be Chaos Emeralds and Special Stages, again, in the 3DS version, and some stages will be exclusive to that version. Looks like I'm gonna have to get both...

Worst. Level. List. Ever. Besides City Escape, Green Hill, and Sky Sanctuary, this sounds like a complete phuck-fail of a game. They considered Sonic 3 and Knuckles one game, and left Sonic CD out entirely, but we're playing levels from games that came out within the last two years, that we can ALREADY PLAY with these graphics.

-blows party favor- Wooptie-fudging doo, Sonic Team. Thanks for making my complete excitement for this game fall completely flat. This list better be fake.

Well I'm curious to see Chemical Plant, I'm kinda surprised Ice Cap isn't being included.. otherwise I'll be disappointed if they really do ignore Special Stages for the console version, because they're just ignoring such a big part of Sonic, and not to have any 2 player modes also would seem like a lazy way about that takes good things away that could make the game better.

There's gotta be a way, with games like Fallout 3 existing entirely on one disk, that we can have more than nine stages. Honestly.

I would have liked more classic stages, but that's not the point of the game. Sega should do graphic updates of the original games in the classic style their using in Generations...I quite like it.

A few people over at Sonic Retro (sort of) debunked the level list, I believe. Aaron Webber (?) also said that there would be more than nine stages, but don't quote me on that.

Though most of it has been talked about lately, here is another list of the bosses and levels known to be in Sonic Generations. This does not mean the list is complete.

http://www.tssznews....tage-list-more/

I see Metal Sonic and Sky Sanctuary but no Sonic CD level. God help us all if they mixed up the names. Everyone really thinks this is the Sonic CD Metal Sonic...

People are already ranting about the level choices. Guess there is just no way to really please this fanbase. :x
