There's also this image flying about right now - can you say "old skool" ?
I went on the SEGA blogs last night and all the crazy fans are asking for Sonic Adventure 3. Lol, this ain't gonna be no Sonic Adventure 3, children.
Someone strap a Flux Capacitor to Sonic's back and tell him to run at 88mph. XD

He was a recognized gaming superstar from 1991-1994 with another peak in popularity in 1999-2000. If you want to be REALLY generous, you could call that continuous and say there were highly-regarded Sonic games from 1991-2000. Still less then half of his time.
There have been well-received Sonic games in the past decade, but they were all handheld titles.
I feel like I've written this post before... IDK.
I'm still collecting the Archie Sonic comics, which I started when I was about 7 years old. (I'm 24 now.)

And the winner for best Sonic CD sprite hack goes to...Someone strap a Flux Capacitor to Sonic's back and tell him to run at 88mph.
While the whole celebration may seem a bit odd if only because the game quality has tanked in this decade, it's worth noting that he's still a wildly recognized mascot and gamers new and old are aware of the Sonic Team's 16-bit glory days. Sonic remains that staying relic of the 90s, the first (if not only) game mascot with both staying power and an "attitude."
And the game quality this decade has only tanked on consoles, it seems. The Nintendo handheld iterations have done well both critically and commercially, or so it seems. I still think Sonic Advance 2 is the best Sonic game I've played since the Genesis era...

I'm not especially optimistic but as always I hope to be pleasantly surprised. I just get that bad vibe that Sega is trying to bank on nostalgia factor again but going about it a different way from Sonic 4.

Sega can't win. If they do something new, the fans revolt. If they stick to formula, fans revolt. I'm hoping that if they ever make another episode to Sonic 4, it will move beyonds the requisite Green Hill Clone and explore other motifs.Time will tell if it's any good. It's kind of hard for me to get too excited about it though. My biggest gripe about Sonic 4 was there was too little originality in the level design and bosses and these gameplay demos open us up to the umpteenth iteration of Green Hill Zone. Although I have yet to touch it at least Sonic Colors caught my attention by looking fresh and new.

From the video it looks as if the game has uncurling, but RubyEclipse has apparently confirmed from a play test that there is no forced uncurling

Part of me looks forward to a new Sonic game, a part of me realizes that the glory days of Sonic have long passed.
Whatever he had, he lost it long ago.

True statement. But considering they've been pimping out the Genesis classics on every system imaginable for so long I'm inclined to give them more kudos for trying new locations with new visual appeal, once again such as in Sonic Colors.

Edit: Gameplay looks fantastic. Modern looks like more of Unleashed, which is A-O-K with me. Classic...is...just...well... -sniff- ...it's just great. When I saw Sonic's legs making that loop, I was like -cry-

classic play in Generations officially does not have uncurling
also check out the video after that for a playthrough of modern style Green Hill, which looks real nice too
(should we make a new topic for this game at some point? lol)

3DS modern gameplay is akin to Sonic Rush. Also, there will be Chaos Emeralds and Special Stages, again, in the 3DS version, and some stages will be exclusive to that version. Looks like I'm gonna have to get both...

I'm hearing that only the 3DS version has Special Stages.. however that version seems to control a bit more like Sonic 4

I see Metal Sonic and Sky Sanctuary but no Sonic CD level. God help us all if they mixed up the names. Everyone really thinks this is the Sonic CD Metal Sonic...
People are already ranting about the level choices. Guess there is just no way to really please this fanbase. :x
