So, most people wake up Christmas Day and open presents. I wake up on Christmas Day and find Harada-san tweeting about a new Soul Calibur in development.

I am so happy. My favourite fighting game of all time is coming back.
The SC community have been petitioning for a long time now, it's good to see their hard work pay off. If only SEGA worked the same way, huh?

I wonder, what things should they do to re-invigorate the franchise.. although 3 and 4 still got positive reviews I think many can agree they're not quite as memorable as the first two games. Too much newfangled weird modes and such is one thing that messed it up, I figure. Bring it back to the essentials.

I do hate how some combos I used to love doing were pretty much disabled..

SC3 and SC4 got good reviews at launch but the general consensus in hindsight is they weren't very good. SC4 was light on content and SC3 was downright broken. If they want to reinvigorate the series they need to start with the core mechanics and stop trying to dumb it down for the lowest common denominator. Characters in SC4 were little more than hollow shells of their SC1 and SC2 versions, oversimplified, sluggish and reduced to bare essentials. Bring back the speed and technicality that made 1 and 2 so fun.

And I swear to god if I see so much as one f*!*ing lightsaber I'm going to totally lose my sh!t. This cameo in fighter stuff has seriously got to stop. It's getting out of hand.

You'll have to probably wait until Soul Calibur VI to have more guest fighters if the trend is anything to go by. II and IV had cameos, I and III don't...

This is Bamco (it's a nickname for Namco we use in the Tales Community) we're talking about. There's about a 2% chance the game will be good. You know, Bamco has a tendency to release FAIL games stateside. I keep waiting and waiting for other releases that would do well here, but they're stupid.

Obviously, I'm a cynic whose lost faith in major game development companies with the exception of Capcom.

oh, i already knew about this. I was actually there watching on Twitter when Kamiya was talking to Harada-san about Bayonetta possibly making a guest appearance. I guess you could say i was one of the first people to find out, i actually posted the news in the comments section on the Soul Calibur FaceBook page XD I dunno if it will happen though, all they did was talk over Twitter and then Harada-san called Platinum Games' office at one point. That's as far as it went, i think.

It's nothing against Bayonetta specifically. It just pisses me off they're still entertaining the notion of having guest characters still. Their move lists are always sh!t in the end and I'd rather they spend that time developing the main cast and actually making a new character or better yet, a good game . I wish they'd drop the create-a-character too. Just more wasted time.

The game was announced not even a month ago and already they're talking guest characters. It gives me a distinctly bad impression of where their priorities lie.

I've always thought guest characters were rather silly wastes of time. I believe in developing ones own characters before one wastes time on someone elses ... On the other hand ... Playing as a lot of different people is fun.

I'm a Mega Man fan. Those games, with the noteable exception of Starforce, have never really disapointed me. I don't really play too many other CAPCOM games ... besides Devil May Cry. And I'm not an RE fan, but I have a friend who is, and so I know all about it. She seems to like recent instalments, so I haven't lost faith in them ... yet.

I lost faith in CAPCOM the moment Clover Studios dissolved because "They're games weren't making enough money."

Now I'll never have my Viewtiful Joe 3 unless SEGA somehow got the rights which will obviously never happen.

Yeah, i like create-a-character too. I think they should ditch the whole RPG statistic element of it though, keep it simply for visual and creative reasons rather than trying to add something to a gameplay element. When they start giving stats to bits of clothing that effect the way a character plays then you know they need to spend too much time tweaking that area of the game and not focusing on other important things that everybody else is complaining about - like balancing the main cast.

I'm also getting the feeling this won't be called Soul Calibur 5, somehow.

Wonder how many new original characters they'll introduce? Twas so awesome when Setsuka, Tira and Zasalamel were added in 3.

We knew it was coming. It's kinda hard for me to not look forward to this at least a little bit. It is Soul Calibur. However any enthusiasm I have is severely tempered by the fact the last couple games in the series weren't very good. I will say this though. Siegfried's new look is incredibly awesome.



I really hope this is indicative for the rest of the cast. A lot of costumes in SC4 were over the top to the point of being ugly. That pic shows a little moderation goes a long way. I hope the rest of the cast follows suit.

What the hell are Ultras doing in a 3D fighter? That's...different. Makes me wonder if they scrapped the Critical Finishers. Would be kind of a shame if they did. I thought that system was actually rather solid. Either way, it this game has Ultras they better axe ring out's completely. We don't need two ways to pull off a victory from behind.

Decent trailer but Patroklos whipping out what is literally Ken's Shin Shoryuken at the end there made me facepalm...hard. They aren't even being coy about ripping off Street Fighter.

Ya, I couldn't get into Soul Caliber when I played it for the first time. Then again, the first Soul Caliber I played was IV.
Regardless I'll just ignore it until I get good word from it.
