Keiji Inafune announced today via his blog that he will be leaving his position at both Capcom and Daletto at the end of the month. Inafune is currently CEO of Daletto and (deep breath) "Head of R&D Management Group and Consumer Games R&D Division and Contents Management Division" at Capcom.

As reason for his departure from Daletto, a Capcom subsidiary that handles online games management and business, Inafune wrote, "Work as a CEO requires speaking about your dreams and evaluating your subordinates. If you can do these two things, anyone can be CEO. I've always thought that, and I still do. However, I can no longer do these two at Daletto. I've lost the authority to evaluate my subordinates and the qualification to speak about my dreams."

So, what do you think?

Will the Mega Man series be the same without him? What about Legends 3?

It'll be interesting to see what the future of Mega Man will be. I was under the impression that Legends 3 was his pet project. I haven't played the other games in the Legends series, but hopefully it will be able to hold up?
Although to be honest, I haven't really followed Mega Man in his ZX/Star Force/whatever-the-hey's-going-on series for the DS. There are enough games in the Mega Man meta-series anyway. Has anyone actually played them all?
I imagine Capcom will manage without him.

I wonder what his movies will be like.

After all the things he kept saying about the current state of the industry I don't find it very surprising that he's left CAPCOM. This is still very sudden but it wasn't wrong to expect this.

I could have sworn Inafune hasn't had much serious involvement in the Megaman series since X5. I could be mistaken though. Either way this really doesn't strike me as an especially big deal. He's always worked primarily as a producer. He may have helped create one of my all time favorite franchise characters but Inafune never stuck in my mind as one of those visionary creators.
