Who here like weird music? I do! Let's share.

I want to start this thread with Klaus Nomi. A German countertenor, Nomi came to New York and infused his classical opera with new wave sounds. As a result, his style varies between full, majestic opera:

And here's Klaus's take on it:

His voice is amazing, and who can't help but love the alien look? He even performed on Saturday Night Live with David Bowie.

Nearly anything by Secret Chiefs 3. The only thing I'm not partial to is some of their more Avant Garde stuff, but everything else that ranges from beautiful to epic is incredible. The group is actually a collection of a number of different groups all held together by a few of the members from Mr. Bungle.

Arabic Surf Rock Techno? YES THEY HAVE THAT!

God, all of the music I listen to is probably "underappreciated" by most folks standards.

I just found out that Scissor Sisters, a totally awesome band are virtually unknown in the US (although they're big in the UK? even though they're American? *shrug*). They're really great though, I would describe their sound as being really funky electric glam-rock. They're pretty much the modern equivalent of Queen.
Their latest single, Any Which Way is great.
Other singles include Take Your Mama, She's My Man, and I Don't Feel Like Dancing.

Seriously, this band is awesome, and I can't believe almost nobody I know has heard of them. But they're apparently touring with Lady Gaga, which will hopefully boost their popularity a bit?

Oh let's see.... These artists:

Buckethead
Steve Vai
Joe Satriani
Ronnie James Dio
Beautiful Creatures
Bumblefoot
Nana Kitade
Buckcherry
Heaven and Hell
Akoostik
Hollywood Rose
Slash's Snakepit
Sebastian Bach
The Dead Boys
The Damned
New York Dolls
Jeff Beck
Sixx AM

Too many people are all into their crappy pop, rap, and techno songs that are just the same 20 second bit looped over again. Look up these artists and hear what REAL music sounds like.

Going by the bands I know in that list, I agree completely. I think plenty of people appreciate Dio and Satriani, though, but that's a good thing.

On the topic of The Dead Boys, there's a great interview with Stiv Bators, Cynthia Ross, and Sid Vicious (well, Sid just kind of sits there like a lump while Nancy takes control of everything) from New York cable TV in the late 70s. It's not terribly informative, but the creeps who call in are pretty funny.

Part 1 is here:
