Hahaha! You beat me to it, kid! XD

That's the kinda news i like to hear first thing in the morning!

When i was watching that trailer i thought they were just gonna show the portable sequel but then that logo dropped in at the end and i think a did a little jump and almost cried! XD;;

This is great news! I hope SEGA make an awesome sequel to that game, leave behind the things that were wrong with PSU and bring the good that was in PSO.

So, have this topic open for any new news that comes in. Post it here.

This is the beginning of the return of the NiGHTS syndicate. I think i'll go upload all my old screen-caps to my facebook page to celebrate! :)

First thing I wake up to is PSO2, Radiant Silvergun HD, and Project Draco - the apparent spiritual successor to Panzer Dragoon. Awesome news all over the place!

I remember thinking the original PSO was fantastic stuff, but I wasn't able to play online nearly as much as I would have liked. The little I played of PSU felt like it was trying to shoehorn in too much storyline and not doing a great job. I can't wait!

:) I was up until 2 last night waiting for the PSO2 trailer to show up again but it never did. Thankfully SEGABits had it over at there site. I've only played PSO Ep 1 & 2 on the GameCube and I've never played any Phantasy Star game online. I could try to start with this one. This NiGHTS Syndicate sounds interesting. I don't know if you guys talked about it before because I can't remember hearing about it but it does sound familiar.

... As a major fan of Phantasy Star Online, I have to say this.

IT'S ABOUT TIME!!! *Joygasms all over the room, bouncing in her seat in delight*

Even if it's for PC (for now) I might pick this up one day.

This totally made my day.

I have only one this to say...

NiGHTS Syndicate!!! ASSEMBLE!!!

This is amazing news. PSU may not have been perfect but it did a lot of things well and Sega now has a handful of Phantasy Star games to use as reference for what works. If they pack all the good in the PSO style of game, the mind boggles at how good it can be.

Just please, bring back the original composers. Bad music will kill a lot of my enthusiasm especially since I hold the PSO series as having the 2nd greatest soundtrack of all time.

And what the hell ever happened to Jof's group hugs in the shower?

YES. Really, the music in PSU was something else that let it down. There was nothing memorable and i really tried to like it.

I can't wait that long ;___;

I'm totally on for getting the NiGHTS Syndicate back in full swing, but before we do anything officially for the N.S.G i wanna see what news SEGA reveal regarding this new game.

I know i totally wanna buy another PC now just so me and Lynne can run at the same time, lol. I think i've got time to try and save up for one. It doesn't need to be anything expensive, just good enough to run this.

Ok, so i think what i'm going to do sometime over the weekend is tidy up this area of the forum so we have all the old PSU N.S.G stuff tidied away somewhere for reference.

We'll open up a section specifcly for people to post their news findings on PSO2.

Then when the game is near realese/released i will open the Syndicate once more.

Oh man, i'm so bloody excited about this.

Also, in closing, i agree on the music. PSO episode 1 and 2 had some really great memorable tunes. Mines 2, for example. Beauuuutiful <3

I'm so freaking excited!

The only songs from PSU that really stuck with me were the Clyez City track and Save the World (AOTI Remix)~

EXCITEDNESS!

PSU's music wasn't necessarily bad. It was simply competent which is still miles behind the score in the PSO games. Some of those songs absolutely penetrated the soul with their ambiance and even more importantly the music shifted depending on the situation. This added urgency when the action started but there was always a haunting sort of calm in between those parts. PSU:AotI's music was a little better but still nowhere near as close as it needed to be which is weird because both PSO and PSU had the same composers. Maybe they were trying to make music to suit PSU's hollow, cliche, dime a dozen anime melodrama aesthetic. If so then job well done. That there is some quality blandness. XD

Here are some comparisons between similar levels.

PSU Jungle Stage
PSO Jungle Stage Part 1and Part 2

PSU De Rol Le
PSO De Rol Le

PSU Seed Hive
PSO Ruins Part 1and Part 2

I could go on but I think you get the idea.

Still, c'mon guys, lets be fair. PSU did some things really well too. Player shops were great. I also really loved how the weapon and item palettes didn't stop the game's flow dead in it's tracks. Combat in general was better too and don't try to deny it. XD

So how much do you guys think it'll be a month. $10? $15? What are people paying right now to play PSU online?

PSU currently costs 10 dollars a month. The base game can be bought for 20 via digital marketplace and the expansion is free.

As far as PSO2, no way it should go higher than ten. World of Warcraft is top dog in the MMO market and they charge 15 dollars a month last I checked. If they're smart/able to do so, Sega should go even cheaper because when the consumer has the choice of a long running, constantly supported, well known MMO or this new up and comer from a niche series...well I think it would be obvious what's going to happen.

Having a lower monthly fee makes it a more appealing package and if support is as scatter-shot as PSU's then they certainly can't afford to go toe to toe with Blizzard. At that point they'll mostly be relying on the established fanbase who doesn't need to be sold on this anyway. It would be a fantastic way to shoot themselves in both feet before aiming for their balls.

Wow, a PSO2. I read this thread a while back, and i've been trying to find some other sources to confirm it, but the buzz seems to be about PS Portable 2. A PSP game. w00t. A full-fledged PC sequel (that will hopefully find it's way to the wii)? Thats more like, w00t with one of them fancy dancy upside-down "i"s at the end.

I'm working hard right now to get a Gamecube BBA and a copy of PSOEI&II+ (and maybe replace my lost AV cable so i don't have to play without, ya know, knowing what i'm playing) so i can hook it up to SCHTKED or whatever crazy name that fan server had and play the game online. It's becoming more and more tempting, however, to wait it out and get this. If they do make a wii version and by some miracle, wifi is free, i'll certainly snag it. Of course, if it's not, i gotta wait some more until a PSO2 fan server turns up so i can play for free. I'm still in Middle School and my parents would never, ever pay a monthly fee so i could play some game.

*watches video*

Deja vu. I think they used a nearly identical video for the PSP PSP (PlayStaion Portable Phantasy Star Portable. Interesting). I actually skipped the bulk of the video to make sure that the logo without Portable was there and that it'd say something like "For Windows PC" (hey look, it did!) to confirm that this thread is not a hallucination. Alas, i am looking at a real thread. And i am happy that is so.

Translated Info on PSO 2

You might wanna read some of that, up there.

Anyone perhaps getting a Pioneer 1 vibe off that? Perhaps you play a character who was on the first ship to Ragol ...maybe.
Would be an interesting take on the story, even if it ends up reusing what we already know. That's just me speculating, however, i'm only trying to make sense of what that news blurb might be about.

It's definitely possible but at this point a prequel is just as likely as a sequel considering how little we know. Personally I kind of hope they don't revisit Pioneer 1. Part of what I thought was so cool about the story in PSO was we never really knew exactly what happened before Pioneer 2 arrived. We have some ideas, but there's still a lot that hasn't been explained. In a game that has a story revolving around deep space colonization, a huge catastrophe with little explanation adds a cool sense of mystery to the atmosphere.

Sweet! ^o^ I've never played the original, but I have the DS game. I don't really know much about PSO for Dreamcast, but from what you guys say it was a really good game. ^o^

Hmm, if you guys are going to be doing NiGHTS RPing on Phantasy Star Online 2, I have to say I'd like to join you. MMORPG-ing can be a tad dull, but if you guys are in on it, count me in, it will be more fun that way.

So, is everyone keeping up to date with the recent news developments on this?

If not, HOOOOO!!! - Latest Famitsu Info

HOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! - Video of awesomeness. Also, customisable breasts, oh yes! :D

So then, i am undeniably excited for this game and i will drag up another bloody campaign petition should SEGA not bring this worldwide. Understand.

We need to get a lot of people together to push for this to be on consoles. I mean, they shut down the PC/PS2 PSU servers because they weren't active enough, right? So why the heck would you make a sequel to a CONSOLE game on a platform that has not been performing as well?

Besides, I can't afford a new PC to play this game...

PC's actually been doing really well the past 3ish years, and it's only doing better and better. It's also that PC has the best control scheme, particularity for a MMO.

Hurray for thread necro! Please if you don't know there is a vague '2013' release date for US, you can play on JP servers already of course, and there's a translation pack for everything except for the storyline. It will be on PS3 and Vita as well. I. SO. CAN'T. WAIT.

EDIT: Also Free to Play model with Cash Shop so yay?
