Hi, I know I haven't been around for awhile, I've decided to start a project involving the NiGHTS universe. At this stage we're still in planning and prototyping. We will be using the Unreal Development Kit as a base as we want to concentrate on gameplay and visuals (NiGHTS has always been a very richly visual game)

The main people we are looking for at this stage is concept artists and experienced UnrealScript/C++ coders.

Concept Artist: We're looking for people able to not only translate other people's ideas but also come up with thier own or add individual flair. And later on to be able to create orthographic drawings to help with modellers later in development. We'd love to see your ideas and art, and enthusiasm goes a long way. Getting on board early can also help steer the visual design in a much larger way.

Coder: We're looking for coders to help early in development as we prototype gameplay and mechanics. Of course not only a good grasp of code, and a grasp of maths and game mechanics is almost required, and a love of games, especially helpful to have someone who is good for the feel of the NiGHTS series. UnrealScript experience would be helpful, but not essential as us 2 designers are also crash-coursing in UDK ourselves from various coding backgrounds. C++ would also be handy for possible unrealscript<>Eternal DLL functions.

We currently use:

We'll also be looking to pick up people with other experience who want to offer their skills. To get an idea of the pipeline, work and skills involved, this page is a great starting point: http://udn.epicgames...ntCreation.html

While obvious this is starting out as a fan/indie project so there's no pay to be made, but really we're here to put our skills to use and polish them, so any work can be used for your portfolio and stands as good industry experience.

Hey, sounds like you're planning something similar to me (see my Second Slumber thread in this part of the forum). Just wondered if you currently have anyone that knows unrealscript at all. I've come accross a problem that I think should be a simple fix, I just can't find where in the code to change it. I'm using the Whizzle source code, but need the character attached to the AquaBall to face the direction pushed, rather than always facing up. If you or anyone else could help, that would be awesome :(

Well we plan on supporting all game styles, 2D plane rail, tube-rail (or star-fox style) and completely off-the-rails 3D flying. The latter is something that's gonna take a lot to make work, but done right could make things interesting. If we have people create fabulous dreams and worlds, I'd love to be able to explore them.

So far we have no real code, we're at the start, which is why any unrealscript devs would be greatly appreciated to help us accelerate as my experience is more with the design and direction of games and films, I know 3D and animation but I suck at art in general and texturing.

I know my weaknesses and I know I need to work with people to fill those gaps. Hell, I need another games designer to be my moderator and translator as I'm not good at communicating my ideas and not seeming like a bit of an idiot sometimes XD

I've seen your project and I wanted to avoid a remake myself given the traction the NiD15 campaign is getting :3 But I'm sure we can share the base code and work together and just have separate art, assets and levels for the remake you want to do. How does that strike you?

I'll stick with what I'm doing for now, but if you make any ground on the code side that sounds great :( . I'm not doing the remake thing anymore really. Initially just a link attack style game in flat side on. After that I'll look into extending the code to a plane rail and on from there. At the end of the day, more NiGHTS is a good thing. Will definately keep an eye on this and if there looks to be room for collaboration or sharing of resources then I'm all for it. For now though it's just little ol' me, lol.

Crud, I'd love to help with this, but I know nothing about developing in the Unreal Kit; I can only do mapping in Source SDK >_>. Meh I'll download the kit and see if I can make since of it, been wanting to learn to use the UDK anyway.

Regardless good luck on your project :(

I'm not sure on the specifics of what the guy knows but hunt down TRAViS here at the forums. I know he knows a thing or too about C++ though i don't know to what extent. Could be the guy you need.

I just want to say that it's cool what's being planned. I'd try to help but I have absolutely no experience when it comes to making games. I can barely remember the code to print "Hello World."

Well, I'm useless for code (here I play the dyslexia card) and original design isn't really my strong suit, but if you need help with modeling, I'm all over that. I've pretty much only worked high-poly up to now, but I've been starting to learn my way around a low-poly model for gaming (been trying to mess around with the MMD meshes, but I can't get the Blender import-script to work.) I currently work in Blender, Hexagon and Carrara, and can use Blender to export to most of the common game-mesh formats. Er, here's my credentials, I guess. *shrug*

I work with UnrealScript and C++ every day, but mostly C++. I wouldn't have much time to dedicate to the project, but I'm certainly willing to help with bugs or Unreal issues that you run into. :)
