Yeah I was thinkin' Megadeus too.. a slight variation on the Mazinger super robot style.. ZoE would be a curious one (very similar to Evas, same designer, right?)
Could also try an LFO dealie from Eureka seveN..

Orbital frames are quiet different from Evas in my opinion and to the best of my knowledge were designed by another guy.
LFO would be really cool. Same guy who made mech designs for Macross and Escaflowne...Oh sh!t! Guymelef NiGHTS! Do a Guymelef NiGHTS!

Did some re-checking on ZoE, you're right, they're less similar to Evas than I recalled offhand (If I remember right the pilot is absorbed into the mech like with the RahXephon). Admittedly I've only played ZoE a little bit.. just realized now what you're screen name is from, lol. Saw Escaflowne a while back, oughtta refresh on that too.
