Depends on the type of dragon... Maybe an asian themed castle?

I like the idea of an Asian themed dreamscape or palace. I'm a big fan of the idea of a NiGHTS Asian dragon. O_O

Tron world *brick'd again* My inner dork won't shut up about it (and neither will I XD). Hmm, though if you wanted a nightmare of that sort of situation...a digital world that's slowly being infected with a virus of sorts. Ultimate geeky nightmare: complete computer meltdown.

XD Right ON! I love it! And we have a nice digital maren for a boss, which you kill with a Norton/MacAfee space gun. *bricked for bringing up NiGHTS w/ gun* Couldn't help it, sorry. X3

Seriously though, a computer based world for a dreamscape or nightmare would be a nice nod to the Age of Information. It'd be fun!

I also like the idea of a snowy, frozen beach.. But that's probably because of the dreamscape I mentioned in the personal dreamscape topic. The place I sometimes see has a beach with snowstorms and such. I would like to see it. But then, they did something like that in Sonic Shuffle: A frozen beach. I think that they could pull it off, since they did it in a small way.

A circus.
...
Too cliched, I know.

but it's a nice cliché! ^_^;
I'd love to see a carnival/fun fair themed dreamscape, with roller coasters, caravans and the like in the background. I can just imagine it even having a little "freak show" with stylized posters of each maren on it (but that's a bit too silly, I admit)

Personally, I like the idea of the inside of an old factory dreamscape. With all sorts of dusty old machines, rusty oversized gears and pulleys. maybe even a big steam engine right in the middle! @__@

A factory... a circus... global warming... I think we're getting a little too mundane in our ideas. The dreamscapes need to be way more fantastical than this.

Looking at all the dreamscapes and thinking about what Iizuka-san has said in interviews, I've concluded that the dreamscapes in NiD and JoD all come down to three things: A) Keep it general -- the things that anyone would dream about, B) Keep it fantastical -- like the floating windmills and the rubber buildings, and C) Keep it open and free -- the better for NiGHTS to fly.

I'd like to go back to the outer space idea I proposed that the thread's beginning. Unfortunately, that has a problem -- when the time as NiGHTS runs out, where are the kids going to land? It's not quite as important, but ground exploration needs to be possible in the event that the counter winds down. The only exception in NiD was in Twin Seeds, but all that really did was add difficulty, which is permissible in a game's final level.

I'm trying to come up with something to fit this criteria, but all I'm seeing is a level above the clouds. There's a lot of space for NiGHTS to fly around in, and the kids could walk on the clouds. But how would that idea be spiced up? There's a lot of stuff on the earth and a lot of stuff in space, but there isn't a whole lot in between, is there? Any ideas?

There could be airplanes flying around the stage that would hurt NiGHTS if he hit them, and the kids could jump on and ride. Or large birds.

Or... random thought that just popped into my head. A small town that rests on the clouds, with people/pians going about their daily commute. Hmm...

Personally, I'd like to see some sort of dreamscape that's like Babylon Garden/Sky Road in Sonic Riders. With some sort of weird Eurasian theme mixed in. And a giant bird-like Maren at the end.

...Jeez, I am NOT creative today...

you know we could have a disoriented circus/carnival/festival at night/paris/new years eve type of dream i think that would be pretty cool. there would be ferris wheels, lots of confetti, and fireworks in the background. that could possibly work

Hey, I've got it: A level based on sweets!

A whole dreamscape made of cake and ice cream and candy. It's a nice, generic sort of dreamscape, it'd literally provide a ton of eye candy (for lack of a better description. *groan*), and there'd be a nice, solid ground for the kids to land on when time is up.

Personally, I can't believe we didn't come up with this sooner. What do you all think?

Sounds like the perfect dream for the little fat hidden character dreamer, Chuck. XD

Just kidding, that's actually an awesome idea! Its so obvious I probably didn't think of it because in the back of my mind I likely figured someone else already mentioned it. :P Its one of those things that could quite possibly be on everyone's mind, so a lot of people could relate to it, its kind of cute yet cool, and even if its generic, it doesn't seem to be an idea that's very played out. You could also do a lot of different things with a layout.

That's exactly what I meant. Take Candyland (or the Wonka factory, if you like) and make a dreamscape out of it.

Of course, you'd get a lot of people complaining about how this promotes childhood obesity, but they were probably gunning for the video game industry anyway. So, in the words of the prophet, "F**k 'em."

A dreamscape?

Lessee... What would I like to see....

Well all of your ideas are brilliant, so I'm gonna have to scrawl out a dodle of something I'd like to see as I'm terrible at describing XD

Here we go. I'd like to see a giant underground cavern, with firevents and lava waterfalls, and a beautiful crystalline lake. Decorated with phosphorescent floating crystals. Stalactites and Stalagmites and giant rock pillars. And some pretty views of the sky far above through the occsional gap in the ceiling, the light that filters through allowing trees and plants to grow inside (obviously I was too lazy to draw some of these in the pic).

ok, how about a trip through history... You start into the forest with dinosaurs, then move into egypt with the nile and pyramids, then into the construction of the great wall in china. Then, into the age of greece and rome, then following the santa maria alongside columbus on his trip to america....and then it cycles and maybe goes to different parts of the world, like mideval japan or the aztec age of south america. who knows?

How about a cyber city as a dreamscape? The boss Nightmaren would have the power to make minions just pop out of nowhere, or download NiGHTS and the kids into random VS. games. Strange idea, I'm sorry... have been watching too much ReBoot and Matrix, as well as playing too much MegaMan NT and Space Paranoids (KH2) for my own good.

How about a dreamscape based on 'unreality'? Sort of like Soft Museum, but jacked up a little. =D Like huge mirrors that act as portals to other parts of the 'scape, and areas that look like something from an MC Escher painting.
Of course it'd be confusing (and perhaps a tad too similar to Soft Museum), but it would also be very cool in some aspects. You could have parts of the level that shift around, forcing you to find new pathways, and things like that...

I was thinking something with City Night setting similar to twin seeds. Bright and loud with colors.
Or a sky carnival possibly in a night setting. Or maybe a Crystal valley in the night sky.( Reminding me of the song Daimoads in the sky from Sonic R) ^_^

As for a nightmare setting, mostly likely dark mountain level with surreal color changes.

I just don't think that a cityscape would be fantastic enough for this. It worked in the original game because it was the final level. Twin Seeds was like Claris and Elliot going back to their hometown, only with more experience and strength having been through the rest of the game. It was a good move, but I don't want to see so many things done twice.

The cityscape has already been done, and the phrases "sky carnival" and "Crystal valley" are completely unknown to me. However, I see that both of those prospective dreamscapes are airborne. There has to be a ground as well as a sky so that Claris and Elliot can have a place to land when the clock runs out.

That is true, that my first ideas are very similar to the twin seeds . But thats just me wanting to refresh an oldie but goodie. As for the others, Sky Carnival and Crystal valley? Well having a ground part to the level is intended. Though i didn't mention it in the last post.

To be honest, I think a better source of inspiration would come from the Nintendo 64.

Think about the levels that the N64 classics had. I'm talking about Mario 64, Mario Kart 64, Banjo-Kazooie, Banjo-Tooie, Donkey Kong 64, Diddy Kong Racing... All of them had solid, general levels that I think could make great dreamscapes. Heck, we might even find something usable in Star Fox 64 or Conker's Bad Fur Day.

ETA: Take, for example, the Super Mario 64 world of Tick Tock Clock. Wouldn't it be fun to fly through so many moving gears and pendulums? That's one thing NiD didn't have: Levels that moved. At least, not to that extent.
