Sega: NiGHTS? Who's that? Let's make a Big the Cat movie!
A NiGHTS short film would be fun, but I think they should take a "Fantasia" style approach. Simply tell the basic story of NiD with no dialogue, just synchonized classical music. Maybe an animate NiGHTS set to the orchestrated NiGHTS theme song would be appropriate.

I would love to see a NiGHTS short.
I also think it would be great to see something related to Panzer Dragoon to make up for the god-awful anime.

Ooh, Nocturne's idea sounds wonderful. I'd love to see SEGA make some NiGHTS shorts, that'd be fantastic and has some potential. That is as long as SEGA remembers NiGHTS exists in the first place. And hopefully they won't find a way to screw the whole thing up again.

Ahhh! It burns us precious! Seriously though, a Panzer Dragoon short would be awesome, especially if they got Moebius as a visual consultant, but that last part is just pie in the sky fantasy.
Seriously though, this news actually makes me really happy. I don't think anyone will argue about how pretty Sega's CGI cutscenes are or rather can be. I loved Night of the Werehog and would love to see more shorts in the same vein. I do agree though that they should minimize dialogue. You don't need words to tell a story

Yeah, SEGA have always been pretty good in the CGI department, especially in recent years. After seeing the small amounts of NiGHTS CGI in Journey of Dreams i'm kinda hungry for more, to be honest.
A short NiGHTS film would most certainly be nice to see. I wonder what else they could be thinking of doing. What other IP's could be good for this?

While I think there's a lot of potential here, and I hate to be Captain Bringdown, but Sega is already stretching their internal talent so thin that it's to the breaking point when it comes to, as I like to call it, "faithful yet innovative treatment of classic IPs". I think that, if this new sub-division is made up of fresh people with fresh ideas, they it may be the start of something cool, but I wouldn't be asking for a NiGHTS short/CGI right off the bat. I want to see what they come up with first, how they're doing it. The article says that it's targeting to be “the number one family-oriented animation studio in the Asia-Pacific region within five years,” so what exactly does that mean? Does it mean it wants to be the top family oriented animation studio that's based in the Asia-Pacific region, or the top family oriented animation studio that focuses and releases in the Asia-Pacific region? There's already a lack of certain crossing-over overseas within Sega (the fact that SASASR is coming out in the US but supposedly not coming out in Japan would be a relevant example), so that'd be the first thing to know. But, let's just say that we roll with it, and they do good work and release stuff globally: what would be some good IPs that fit into this family-oriented category?
Sonic - Well, this is the obvious choice. He's been considered kid-friendly since his debut and already had the honor of Saturday-morning Cartoon status.
NiGHTS - if the studio does good work, I can definitely see a fantasia-style treatment here. I could also see it turn out abysmal if they decided to turn it into a kid-friendly education-style discombobulation. A cool way to take it would be a Pixar-style approach with some dialog, but not much, and have it be a subtle play on the frailty of humanity, the need to cherish hope and appreciate dreams, and possibly even do a mini-reboot of the story to make up for the facepalming aspects of JoD.
Crazy Taxi - now THIS could be gold material if done well. Silly characters and crazy driving set to punk music. It'd be pretty hard to mess this up (I probably shouldn't say that, I don't want to tempt fate)
Comix Zone - THISSSSSSS! Take a sin-city style of art direction, and I'll leave it at that.
That's about all I got right now.

I'd agree with everyone - NiGHTS doesn't need words to tell a story. Dreams, as a rule, don't need to. The original story was warm and nice, even though there was no dialogue whatsoever. Christmas NiGHTS has had a narrator, yes, but it was also nice and warm.
If they make a NiGHTS short film, I really hope they expand that "There's someone to watch over you in your dreams" idea.

Yes! I'd love a NiGHTS short like Night of the Werehog!

Maybe we should get Don Bluth to make a NiGHTS feature, even though he's probably retired. A Don Bluth NiGHTS-thing would most-definitely tug at the heartstrings.

Only if he makes it more "NIMH" and less "Rock a Doodle" would I accept a Bluth NiGHTS feature. He tends to make thing pretty intense, so it could be a clever new approach to NiGHTSMaybe we should get Don Bluth to make a NiGHTS feature, even though he's probably retired.
