I really hate Jackle. His boss battle is so tough and annoying. I mean he's almost invincible until you find the way to beat him (I don't want give any spoilers just in case there are people who have never played the game but are planning to), not to mention his laugh can drive you crazy. He sounds like a high pitched laughing heyena.

I also don't like Jackle because he looks way too much like Reala and NiGHTS. It gives the impression that he's also a 1st-level Nightmaren, which kinda hurts the duality aspect that makes the NiGHTS/Reala relation so intriguing. I mean, a 1st-level Nightmaren that can't paraloop, has sub-standard flight (sub-NiGHTS-and-Reala-standard, anyway) and relies on cards to attack? Nuh-uh.

Just when you think you've lined up your shot perfectly, you hit him and lose 5 seconds on his spines. And then you accidentally bump into a fish you didn't mean to and get whizzed across the screen again. Grr! Frustrating!

Puffy. I accindentally hit the floor with her and get flattened against the ceiling WAY too often, and her voice is more annoying than Jackle's.

Jackle may be a little hard but Gulpo is just annoying for me. I can kick his ass easily now but I still lothe having to do it. I think I had a bad experiance beating him the first time round... like I knew I could do it but kept missing him.

Jackle for me as well. He's always been hard for me. lol I remember being so happy when I finally figured out how to beat him though. XD The other Maren I don't really mind.~ I do have a hard time when Wizeman summons the tornados. I hate that part. >.< lol

well, gulpo is easy for me because i randomly fly and oddly always win...quickly o.0 but i hate jackle, because hes annoying but i like that there might be another 1st level maren woo! and puffy is just fun to beat though.

Gulpo and Clawz. Nothing against them as characters, but I don't like fighting them. Clawz is cheap because

it only takes one hit to kill him but you have to go through all the mice decoys to get to him

. And Gulpo? He's the hardest one to get a 2.0 on as far as I'm concerned. Having to go through the little fish to even get close to him really sucked.

The other bosses are much more fun to battle.

Clawz annoys the sh!t out of me. I don't hate him, but he is my least favourite. What is it with Sega and and making dopey cats with surfer background music?!

And Sage? The thing about Clawz is not true. There's another technique as well. But still.. ANNOYING!

Clawz... his design isn't that great and it took me THREE tries to beat him, at which point I had one second left... Yeah, he annoys meeee ¬_¬

I love Jackle's design, but I hate those stupid cards, lol. And you can't hurt him when he has the mantle on, so that can get annoying, too. I never liked the Clawz battle either, but it's generally a lot easier than Jackle.

That's a good point, but who says he's not? I mean, sure, his abilities are sub-NiGHTS-and-Reala, but think about it: he's got actual weapons, he's nearly invincible, and still pretty strong without the cape (though bizarrely paranoid at the same time), plus he has a voice and a humanlike body (or what there is of it...). It seems to me like he probably is 1st-level after all, but due to the whole duality thing that you touched on, doesn't get nearly enough recognition as such. Besides, Reala and NiGHTS are supposed to be hugely more powerful than any of the other Nightmaren anyway, even whatever other 1st-levels may exist.

As far as my own least favorite boss, I'd have to go with Gillwing. He's just so annoying! That, and I can't get the 5-second kill even *with* the ScoreAttack guides, descriptions, videos, etc. >.>

Actually, there isn't any proof that he CAN'T do those things.
Since he looks so much like them, surely Jackle can perform SOME sort of paraloop or SOMETHING. Maybe he just prefers to fight with cards...cause in my opinion, if I could, I would throw really big death cards at ppl too.

YES. I had totally forgotten about the AlarmEgg. I don't really know if it's technically Nightmaren, or what, but I think we can all agree on it being insanely annoying.

So, if I'm reading your post correctly, you're suggesting that Jackle would actively choose not to paraloop, thereby holding back in a life-or-death duel... because he's insane.

Honestly, I think that helps disprove your argument.

If Jackle had abilities anywhere near those of NiGHTS or Reala, he would have used them in NiD. Jackle was fighting NiGHTS and only one of them was coming out in one piece. Insane or no, neither Nightmaren would've held anything back. Given that, Jackle showed considerable strength, but he could not paraloop and his flight skills were sub-standard compared to NiGHTS and Reala. Therefore, Jackle is not a 1st-level Nightmaren. QED.

This rather persistent fallacy is why I hate Jackle.

Sorry I'm cuttin' in here, but, according to one of SEGA's official sites (I believe it was official), it implies that there might be more than 1 or 2 first-level marens than told or shown in the game (well, the way I read it/understood it). I can't find the site. Grrr..... BUT, I did read that somewhere, and I'll find it. I think the site was one of the only American sites to actually get all the info on NiGHTS right ! But, it was probably a PAL/UK site anyway......

Reala is Wizeman's right-hand man. Like NiGHTS, he is one of the few First-level Nightmarens. Unlike NiGHTS, he is cruel, brutal, and absolutely loyal to Wizeman. Reala and NiGHTS are rivals, as it was Reala's brutal tactics that contributed to NiGHTS' eventual confinement to the space of a dream. Reala's flight capabilities are almost equal to NiGHTS' - he can also paraloop.

Ah, I see. I don't think I've recently re-read that, actually. In fact, I don't think I ever finished reading the whole thing to begin with. Whoops.

But still, I think that, between NNR07's and Misaki-chan's posts, we could jump to the conclusion that, while Jackle is probably not First-Level, that distinction may still be based on powers, not appearance. For that same reason, we know that Puffy is also not First-Level, despite having a (admittedly only cursory) humanoid appearance.

Lets not make a federal case out of this, guys. It is what it is. You can't just assume that just because he looks a certain way, that he can do the same things, anyway. The differences are clear (Clear eyes.. Wow..) and the proof has been presented. Anything else would have to be fan speculation, which can't really be argued over because everyone's fan idea's are just that: Fan ideas. If they want to fight amongst themselves, they'll get nowhere, because no one is right. I like to stick to the NiGHTS facts, rather than come up with all kinds of theories. Its how Mary-Sues are born.

I've never had a problem defeating a boss, NiGHTS isn't really the hardest game in town after all. If I had to choose a boss I hated most it would have to be Gulpo though, just for sheer boringness. I hope they have some really puzzling bosses in Journey of Dreams, I want a boss that you have to re-figure out if you face it again, and bosses that don't appear the first time you play through, and instead randomly appear after a certain ammount of "NiGHTS". Yes, I do know I'm being delirious, but I can dream.

Lets just keep the topic moving and try not to respond to those posts, we can't have fighting going on here. (Or those heavy 'bouts of sarcasm, to those who want to call it that.) Nothing wrong with having opinions, don't think that we discourage them. We just can't have them turning into things that are being shoved down everyone else's throats (which is what the bickering was making it look like)
