This is the main poster I've been putting up around my town. It seems to have gotten a lot of attention and next week we're planning a group cosplay in front of our local EB Games.

If I had the time and money, I would get me and some other forum members out to SOA and do NiGHTS cosplay in front of their office and have picket boards that say we want NiGHTS in ASR. XD

  • Interests:I love well-made fanart, drawings and well-written fanfics. I adore people who can be creative in a beautiful way (good artists, writers, singers etc). I like various anime shows, mostly shoujo and maho-shoujo. I also like reading books of fantasy-writers (Andre Norton, Phillip Pullman, Gart Nix etc). I like listening to rock or folk-rock music. I also love various pretty shiny things. I myself write and draw various fan things from time to time. And yes, I also love sleeping, dreaming and being lazy.
Sent my e-mails to every address I could, including webmaster@sonicteam.com and sega.games@sau.sega.com ones.
I don't know Japanese that much, but I hoped to get some on-line translator to translate the e-mail and the page - but for some reason I can't get access to the sega.jp, Firefox just keeps telling me it has 'secure connection failed', why?

I put up the "Don't forget NiGHTS" in my signature on Sonic forum, so maybe we'd get some spark of interest here in Russia. I'll think what else I can do...

I don't think SEGA will ever neglect NiGHTS while we're around. As long as we stay strong together, NiGHTS won't be forgotten about any time soon. :)

Amen to that, i hope they'll read this!

Yes, I posted this on the SEGA forums. But some aren't members there, so...

This goes out to all who don't think NiGHTS is in this game:

I've mentioned before that I'm a NiGHTS fan, and I'm here to help out the cause. But all this doubt some are releasing is hard on some. DLC shouldn't be a possibility for someone of this much popularity. Try to have a little more faith in his game roster inclusion, please? :)

I say this with respect, but please stop trying to tell us otherwise. Either you're with us in this campaign, or you can stop posting in these topics, it's helping no-one.

Off Topic(sorry, but its very important):

To those of you that are participating in the JoD Tournament today, go check the topic out. I have made a couple updates(check the last post as well). That will be all. Just wanted to remind you guys. :)

Woah burning all your NiGHTS Merch? X___X Well I trust you about NiGHTS not being in the main game, but you're really serious about this!!! It makes me really sad to see that they're not putting him in the main game... It gives you the feeling that SEGA just doesn't deem her/him as important enough to be in this game when s/he certainly is a lot more important than a few other characters...

Over the past few days I've been thinking. I'm not really sure I want to continue doing this. I really don't think SEGA is forgetting NiGHTS. Maybe their just giving him a break. We've seen NiGHTS in a lot of cameos over the years. He was even playable in both Sonic Riders as well as Superstars Tennis. To be honest, I'm no longer bothered by the omission of NiGHTS from this game. People haven't seen Alex Kidd in years and I think it's great that they brought him back as a playable character. The same goes for Ryo Hazuki. Also Toe Jam & Earl have once again returned to the front of people's minds and I think that's fantastic. We did get a NiGHTS sequel back in 2007, no matter how messed up it was, and even though it wasn't released worldwide I'm sure a few Japanese kids were happy to play what we all played a long time ago. I guess what I'm saying is that I'm comfortable with NiGHTS not being in this game because there's already so many ways I can play as him. I hope you understand.

I'm not against what's happening here at all. It's always nice to see people bring forth so much passion for something they love. I'm just content with the choice that SEGA has made. It would be great to play as NiGHTS but I won't let that stop me from enjoying S&SASR. I wish you all luck in fulfilling your goal.

I'm really sorry to hear that iLLViLLAiN, we really don't want to lose anyone on this campaign. However, I need to stress, this isn't just about NiGHTS being in SASASR, it's about him ever being playable again.

If he isn't playable in the one type of game where it should be a given (besides his own), then what chances t we have of seeing him playable in agame ever again ?

I'm sorry to disappoint and I shouldn't have participated in the first place if I wasn't going to go all the way through but I kept ignoring my own personal feelings which was probably the biggest mistake I made. As far as NiGHTS no longer being playable, I understand that it may be a possibility that NiGHTS will never be playable again but there's also that possibility that he will be playable in the future. I'm not going to try and predict anything anymore.

I remember when i first found out about this i felt really really torn myself. I wasn't sure if i should be sad, angry, motivated to kick ass, sit back and take it or non questioning after the spectacle that was JoD.

DiGi and I both got really down for about 3 weeks straight. We had some awesome arguments offline reagrding this. It was an up and down rollercoaster the entire time. But after lastnight i have no regrets. I done what i could and it was better than doing nothing. If I'd chosen to take this knowledge and just sit back when I had a chance to let you lot show support for something you care about would that make me a bad or a good person?

I feel really positive about this. And even if NiGHTS doesn't even get DLC in the end at least i know we made a stand for him

Even if s/he isn't in ASR at all, I still have a feeling that something good is going to come of this campaign. Maybe not a whole new game or anything, but something. Sega is gonna wanna quiet us down somehow! XD

I wouldn't be so sure about that. I'm not usually the optimistic type, but I believe that, if this campaign ends up being a success, Sega might finally realize the importance of the NiGHTS character. Sega needs to learn how to have faith in their characters as opposed to waiting several years just to make another game for them. Sega never seems to realize that the only reason their non-Sonic games usually flop is because Sega hardly advertises them. Mario and Sonic at the Winter Olympic Games gets several commercials on several different television outlets, but not any of Sega's other franchises. And Sonic himself was once an original Sega IP with only one game at some point. The only major difference is Sega had so much at stake with Sonic that Sega had no choice but to have faith in him. Indeed, the success of the Mega-Drive and Sega's future were dependant on Sonic at that time. Of course, Sega advertised the hell out of his game. If only Sega put that much on the line for characters such as Ristar or NiGHTS, we would be seeing much different futures for them.

Which is why I cannot understand Sega's logic behind omitting NiGHTS from ASR. So, what, do they think it was NiGHTS the character's fault that JoD tanked? No, JoD tanked because it received very little advertisting because Sega has very little faith in their characters, which would also explain why Sega has handed their IPs to some of the worst developers. Really, did Golden Axe have to go to Secret Level? Did anyone believe Traveller's Tales could make a decent Super Monkey Ball game? Did anyone expect Journey of Dreams to be an instant classic with the Shadow Team at the helm? Oh, sure, Sega will have their more talented in-house developers make quality games based off of original IPs like the Yakuza series or Valkyria Chronicles , but god forbid Sega's classic IPs receive the treatment they deserve.

So, really, I don't understand. Apparently Sega is looking for numbers. Maybe the numbers will count for something else other than NiGHTS DLC for ASR. We might actually get through to Sega this time, meaning another NiGHTS game, with more competent developers this time. I can hope.

You can hope, but hope only says so much against the history of Sega at the moment. I mean, just look at the way they're portraying Project Neddlemouse: something along the lines of "Sonic returns to his roots" or "Classic-Sonic action" or whatever. It took Sega how long...HOW LONG... to realize that's what Sonic's games should be. I already feel like they're stretching the truth about it to garner interest, and no matter how many time Sonic games have completely strayed off the path people will still buy into the talk that "this next Sonic game will have Sonic done right". Either that, or they'll botch it up like they did with Sonic Unleashed, where they really could have had a proper game had they not tried to rip off of GoW/PoP and turn Sonic into a friggin' stretchy-armed half-animal/half-other-animal. I honestly am a little jealous of your optimism in getting NiGHTS a proper game, and if Sega's ever going to learn I hope that doesn't happen too later for NiGHTS to get that treatment.

On another note: This situation reminds me very much of that one leak for JoD that came from a Sega employee that also mentioned Sonic Unleashed. I can't find the blog right now, but giantbomb did a great summation of the leak and JoD in-general:

"According to information leaked by a former Sega UK Employee, NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams was originally intended to be an Xbox 360/Playstation 3 title. The higher-ups at Sega did not have much faith in a new NiGHTS game, due to the great length of time since the original NiGHTS. They saw Journey of Dreams as Takashi Iizuka's "pet project", but agreed to produce the game as respite for Sonic Team from developing so many Sonic games. Despite this, they did not give Sonic Team much time or money to complete the game. To make matters worse, after witnessing the overnight success of Nintendo's Wii, Sega forced Sonic Team to stop production on the 360/PS3 version of the game (after nearly a full year of development) and instead produce the game for the Wii. This, according to the information, did not sit well with Takashi Iizuka, as he now had even less time and even less money to produce what he considered to be an inferior version of a game he had been waiting ten years to make."

Now, imagine you're DiGi and TRiPPY. They had known about this six months before anything was revealed to the press. The fact that the developer's leak also had information about Sonic having stretchy arms like Dhalsim adds great credibility to the truth of the problems with JoD's development. That's something that would have me completely torn as well: do you yourself leak the info? No, you can't do that, because no one will believe you without citing source, thus breaching NDA agreements and costing someone their job. But what other choice do you have? And now that opportunity has come up again, and you see how far they are going this time to prevent similar disaster: not from the IP getting botched, but from removal of usage of the IP as a playable character in an all-stars game. Things look pretty grim when you reach that point, so unless Sega miraculously wakes up from it's idiot-coma I doubt any new NiGHTS game would come around for a while/ever, let alone if the IP starts getting dropped from these other-game appearances.

Anyone stop to think that Sega makes almost only terrible games these days?

So if they DID make a new NiGHTS game, would it live up to the original, nay, be a good game? :{

I'm in total agreement with you for the time-being, Luke. Sega is much more a publisher than it is a creator of games anymore, and most Sonic Team games are terrible or hit-or-miss since the reformation. However, this game is being done by Sumo Digital, a very very good game developer. Also, if Sega see's this much support for NiGHTS and ever does eventually consider doing another game, they could give it to a different team and maybe have them do an adequate job. Furthermore, it wouldn't take THAT much to port the original over to PSN/XBL and appease the fans a great deal. So yes, Sega may make lots of sh!t, but that doesn't mean all of it is. Sega's leading their games now on a legacy that's becoming increasingly tainted as more time and more bad games get put into history...

As discontent as I am with Sega, that's a gross exaggeration. Sega still makes plenty of good games, only they are all based on original IPs. Their classic franchises, on the other hand, have not been done any justice. For every MadWorld and Valkyria Chronicles, they make Sonic 2006 and Golden Axe: Beast Rider. It's like Sega has no faith in their old characters.

Maybe this NiGHTS campaign will make Sega understand how important their classic IPs are. I think it's possible if this campaign is done right.

I still really want to play Valkyria Chronicles, it looks amazing. And yeah SEGA often make some halfarsed games, but at the same time the talent and potential is still there, it seems to be the stupid choices that stunt development by the people with no hands on creative skills that balls it up, or the type that dont have any sort of passion for the job they are doing.
SEGA do make good games its just easier to focus on the bad ones ;)

I know i keep going ON about it randomly but i really want to play Bayonetta because not only does it look beautiful and have the atmosphere down, it seems some good old decent passion and hard effort is behind it. Though Platinum aint SEGA, but still :/

It's a love hate thing with me i think. I'd never drop my love for SEGA because i'm a fangirl but at the same time they do often make choices a 10yr old could tell them was dumb.

On second thought, there is one classic IP that Sega has remained consistent with: Virtua Fighter. Okay, there was Virtua Quest, but Virtua Fighter 5 easily made up for it.

DiGi and I chatted earlier about my decision to drop out of the campaign. I thought about what was said and I've decided to rejoin. I can't think about the Toe Jam & Earl fanbase or the Alex Kidd fanbase. I've gotta think about the NiGHTS fanbase. If any fanbase wants something they have to at least attempt to get the big guys in charge to pay attention. I also ignored one important thing that was said. It's that it's not about whether we get what we want or not. It's about us showing support for something that we love. So yeah, I'm going to keep going until it's all said and done. Forget any negativity that comes this way. It's the internet. What more can you expect? This post may sound very contradictory to what I posted earlier but screw it. I contradict the sh!t out of everything haha

I think the big problem with Sega's track record is this. Sega has some tremendously talented people in AM2 and a few other internal studios. If they get put to work they can come up with some of the best gaming out there. Hell, I'd say Yakuza is one of the best new IP's in the last decade. The thing is when Sega puts those guys to work, they take their time to get that quality product.

In the meantime, they're just as happy to put Sonic Team or some other random 2nd or 3rd party developer to work on one of their major IP's (like Sonic) without much concern for for quality knowing the title will sell by franchise popularity alone and they'll make money anyways. The end result is disproportionate output of quality titles.

I don't have any gripes with Sega working in publisher capacity, I just wish they'd show a bit more respect to their own IP's, particularly the ones that still make them significant amounts of money.

Thank you for thinking things over, Illy. Believe me, i know where you were coming from. It truly is a lot to have rest on our shoulders but thats why we need as much support as we can. As was said, this is the internet, a lot of people are gonna bring some hate this way all because they don't understand what our community strived for all these years. If things start getting heavy for you then take a break and chill. Nobody is forcing you to do anything but all i requested of you is that you remain active so we can show SEGA we're not backing down and dropping out.

I won't ask anything major of you. You do what you feel is within your reach. Even if you just stay around here, posting in the forums. It's enough ;)

Thanks, man.

could be. I've got the volume a little low so i only really heard the main points of it but ...yeh ...kinda tempting fate there, didn't they. And now look. He really isn't in the character roster at all.

I feel there's a lesson to be learnt here...

...when you see a new AllStars game reveal it's very first trailer and it doesn't have NiGHTS in it, MOVE YOUR ASS AND BREAK OPEN A CAMPAIGN! ;)

I wonder if there will be a NiGHTS track even though NiGHTS isn't playable yet. After all, S0L did say that there would be cameos.

I saw this link on DiGi's twitter. I decided to take a look. This video made me really sad. It was put up five months ago. Even then people already knew NiGHTS wasn't gonna be in...

Sonic Team is getting better too. They pushed aside the director of PSU and now they have Sakai, and he is in charge of PSP2/PS0, and soon the next console online Phantasy Star. Those games are really good. It's still Sonic Team too, but Sonic Team has changed stuff so much that I think SEGA has decided to only brand Sonic games with the Sonic Team logo due to the mud the name has been driven through.

Sonic is also on a nice road to improving. No offense to Iizuka fans ( i know there is a lot on this site, and I respect his love of NiGHTS a lot), but he dragged Sonic through the mud, and then repeatedly ran over him with a monster truck. It's his fault the whole image of Sonic games got ruined. Now SEGA has to fix Sonic's image before its too late, and so far they are on the right track.

Sonic Unleashed (360/PS3) is great, but it's not meant for the nostalgic Sonic fans. Nostalgic Sonic fans should keep their eye on project needle mouse =O it's probably gonna turn out really good.

You guys really are serious!!
If NiGHTS isn't a DLC, It's a Lose-Lose Cituation.

NiGHTS is in:
A fanbase is happy, but unfortunately, TRiPPY and DiGi have to burn all their NiGHTS merch.

NiGHTS isn't in:
Fans would be sad, yet TRiPPY and DiGi get to keep their Awesome stuff...

What if NiGHTS is Unlockable? Would you guys still have to Burn everything?

No offense to Iizuka fans

None taken because i blame Iizuka for some of the mess ups in JoD. If Naka and Oshima were still part of Sonic Team i don't think JoD's new gameplay design would have been so radical (chasing birds instead of getting Ideya).

He isn't unlockable.

He is not a playable character in ASR unless they make him DLC.

This article from TSSZ does raise some interest. Apparently this community wasn't overlooked after all.

Sumo Digital keeps an eye on internet forums for feedback on the game, name dropping sites like NeoGAF, GameFAQs, and even the NiGHTSintodreams.com forums (a possible hint to an as-of-yet unannounced character). They use these to gauge interest on what characters and features people want to see in the game.

If this is true, why omit NiGHTS from the game when they are aware of this place? Was the site really mentioned in the actual Q&A?

Because we e-mail bombed them.

The birds annoy me, and I played JoD before NiD. The time spent latching onto them and snatching the key breaks my links. T^T They should at least have made it so the clock pauses while you've got your hand on the bird.

Back on topic: I haven't ever spread myself out very far in the internet so far as memberships on forums, MMORPGs, game news sites, and the like. I'm running out of ideas of where to go, mostly because I don't know what's out there. ^^; Can anybody tell me a place that nobody's tried yet, or where some fellow campaigners need help?
