I apologise for asking what might seem like slightly newbish questions, but I haven't yet been able to play the game yet, so there're some things I don't really know about the game's backstory.

1) Canonically, do we know how the Maren were created?
2) Do we know which order they were created in?

The reason is, I have an idea for a short piece of fanfiction that I may consider writing, but I need to know if the Marens were created in a specific order, or if we don't actually know for sure.

Frankly, I don't see how it matters.

The way I see it, you as a fanfiction author are completely at liberty to fudge a few of these minor facts that nobody knows or cares about. Do whatever you need to make the story work. It's not like it's canon, right?

I agree with Curiosity, fanfiction is a great way to explore a fandom and it's characters. As long as it's written in character and not too far from canon there really shouldn't be a problem.

For your questions, I don't think there has ever been stated how the Marens were created or who was created when. (I'm not an expert on NiD mythology though, so don't take my word for it) A common belief is that the Marens were created from the Dreamers inner fears, just like nightmares often reflect our own.

I thought that the 'Marens were already created, because in the storylines, before the 'pian harasses the kids, Wizeman is already "capturing dream energy though his creations, the Nightmarens," Or something similar noted here.

I think, moreso, what Maren goes to which dreamer is more on their inner fears?

As for my own beliefs, I believe that marens start to disapeare as they get older. Saying something like Jackle is closer to Wizemans age because they are both missing arms, bodies and legs, while Gulpo, Clawz and Gillwing are moar younger, cause nothing on them is invisible.

But that's my own idea, and I am just sharing.

Lmaos if the vanishing maren theory is true, that makes Reala the youngest out of him, Jackle, and NiGHTS. Spoiled brat XD. NiGHTS as a middle child...well, I guess it fits. He'd make a better youngest, but oh well. And Jackle's the crazy old git that sits with Wizeman and reminisces about the good ol' days before NiGHTS was always making trouble and Reala was a suck-up.

I feel like Reala would be older than NiGHTS, and Jackle would be the young, CRAAAZY, one. NiGHTS is in the middle.

I thought NiGHTS was the first one Wizeman created, but his free-will allowed him to rebel. Then Wizeman created the others that wouldn't rebel against him. That's how I always thought it was when my mom translated the Japanese manual. :o Age didn't seem to matter.

I've always thought Reala was the oldest and Jackle was created just before NiGHTS. That's just my personal opinion.

I believe they were all created simultaniously. BAM!
