Sonic Advance 2. Nice game, the boss design was terrible though.

I COMPLETELY SECOND THAT. (I still haven't beaten that game because of the bosses, darn you! -_-)

I also remember having serious issues with the Riku level in Kingdom Hearts 1 (in Hollow Bastion, after Maleficent, just before the heart of the world). It was great until you got to his last lifebar, because then he started using the crazy attacks with the blue light. Using glide and constant healing was the only way I got through it. But I played it so many times, I'd memorized the cut scene. I STILL remember most of it. ^^;

Oh man... *headdesk* I forgot about that! I wanted to forget that. I tried over a dozen times and still didn't beat him. After....maybe the sixth time or something I went ahead and finished up some loose ends. Went back to Monstro for the powerup there (...since I skipped it >>;), went to the Olympus Coliseum for the keychain and such, and went to level up at Traverse Town and get some synthesis items. And yet Riku still beat me. I swear I had...maybe a single point of health left. I only won because I thought "He's going to kill me, might as well go all out." Bish, bam, boom. I was shocked when everything slowed down. I was like "What? I beat him?" I didn't quite snap out of it until I was in control again...or at least until Sora was all "I must release Kairi's heart."

Riku possessed by Ansem. One of the hardest battles in KH1 and the sole reason I swore to never play through the game entirely ever again, especially in Proud Mode. Anyone else got a problem with him?

I have to say one of the hardest boss battles (for me) is Bowser in super mario sunshine. well, first of all, GETTING to him is hard, because you have to use a sloppy boat mechanic, then, when fighting, theres so much going on its sometimes hard for me to pay attention to clamboring over rapidly falling rubble AND read what FLUDD has to say

I also used to get really tripped up by the mid-air eggman fight in sonic 2 (?)

I could never pass the first level of Contra because of the machine that shoots at you at the end.

You know who else is a pain in the ass as a boss? ALL of the bosses from Sonic Advance 2. I don't know who's idea it was to have you constantly running after Robotnik while you fight him but it can really become irritating, especially on some of the later bosses where you need to get in really close. The fact that you're constantly having to run towards the right means having to juggle about keeping up a decent pace yet timing your attacks. You slip up and jump too soon, late, high, low, short or long and Robotnik will screw you!

Sonic Advance 2. Nice game, the boss design was terrible though.

Do you know who's a hard boss? Golbez in the DS version of FFIV.

And, maybe it's just because I've been playing games since I was four... but Ansem didn't give me problems... I do agree about Sonic Advance 2>< I'm terrible at platformers...

Sigma in X4 (as Zero) is very difficult... and so are all the normal bosses, for that matter... X6 has a very hard boss called Gate... once again, only as Zero...

Kratos, on your first playthrough, the very first time you fight him
Spoiler
is soooo damn hard!!!! Even on my second playthrough, overleveled, on NORMAL, I couldn't beat him. It took till my third playthrough when I had 30 item carrying capacity that I could beat him... of course, now that I'm more practiced I can beat him on Mania with difficulty, Hard some difficulty, and Normal fairly easy. But the first time he's a total pain in the ass... and he's not the only one, no.... REMIEL (Who's voice actor also voice acts for Rufus Shinra) forces you to waste recources, increasing your chance of dying.

Weapon, of FFVII lore, goes pretty much without saying.

The creator -Littlebigplanet-
Giant evila -Spacechannel 5-
Chaos -last form- -SA1-
Ganondorf -LoZ Windwaker-
Biolizard -SA2-
Taylors dad
That baffoon+octavio+that rooster guy on sly cooper 3
Clockla Sly cooper 2
Clockwork+Ruby Sly cooper 1

Now they are all fairly easy for me.

Octavio, Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves - What? WHAT?! Are you kidding me?! A hard boss and it's the FIRST ONE! Do I suck or something? I mean, I usually get the hang of things pretty quick, but he...slaughtered me. Took a few tries to get past the first area... Frick...

No....He actually is hard to me too. Then I let my brother beat him...>.>

I hate how that game won't let you skip cutscenes. And, I mean, I like the game, but some of the cutscenes are incredibly cheesy. Of course, what do you expect from Disney?

The one that I had to watch at least 4 times, though, was the one where Maleficent turns into her dragon form. The first time, I was grinning like a kid at Christmas ("I knew it! They couldn't resist including that!"), but after dying to her a few times, I was growing tired of that. She does so much damage, and her attacks have such a wide range. I couldn't even tell what was going on when I was in the thick of it. I just said "Oh heck" and smacked her on the nose for all I was worth, retreating (or trying to) whenever my health got low or my Aero defense disappeared so I could fix the issue (if I hadn't already run out of items and magic). I was a little disappointed, though, that they didn't include that ominous line from the movie: "Now you have to deal with me, and all the powers of hell!" or however it goes. I haven't watched that one in a while. But yeah, dragon Maleficent is definitely one of the hardest bosses I've ever faced. Makes me nervous for the final boss.

...Is it bad that in KH1's Maleficent Dragon battle I hid in the vines while Goofy and Donald killed her off? >>; Sure, I got hit every few minutes, but Tink and Potions helped. ...I didn't want to be set on fire. ._. I'm still a wimp at games. XP Castlevania 64, I shriek whenever something fast starts chasing me...which is like all the time (no, never got to the maze). I shriek then chuckle then my friends on Skype ask "Are you crying?" or "Why are you laughing?" A-heh heh.... Aheh... >>;;

Edit: My gaming area is very close to where the mic is. ^^;

Hiding isn't that low. Some of the bosses are hard, seriously. I admit, if I get low on HP and have no more health-recovering items, I do go try to hide while Donald and Goofy take care of the boss/enemies. But that usually doesn't save me. I also tend to keep the best and most items for myself, because my partners mess up too much and have to use their potions at least once per battle and they'll spring back up after a while if they die, but I won't. :P

I think the bosses that gave me the most trouble was Tabuu (Brawl), Solaris (Sonic 06), Chefbot 9000 (Prinny: Can I Really Be the Hero?), and believe it or not, Flint, from the Elite Four.

The only ones that wouldn't give me a problem now, would probably be Solaris and Flint. XD

Well, I've finished playing Kingdom Hearts, and I have to say Maleficent is a walk in the park compared to the devil dude. It took me 9 times to beat him. I died more times to him than to the last boss. :lol: It was the huge fiery blast that he surrounds himself with. I went around to the back of his neck, because he couldn't hit me with his dragon-breath there, but that prevented me from seeing the cues of when he was going to bring up that inferno of doom. I would have several potions left, but I would die before I got a chance to use them. And the radius of the attack grows as the battle goes on.

I would like to include the final boss from Shadow of the Colossus. It took over an hour or so (lost track) because Wanderer kept falling off of the arms or failing to reach the neck of the colossus. Never died (somehow) but came close after Wanderer fell from an arm to the ground and there was no place to take cover.
Spoiler
(Sheesh...Wanderer should have been dead by then...)
Spoiler
Ow.

Also, as of right now, half the dance battles in Space Channel 5 Part 2. Second report and either the plant's the end of me or - and get this - Pudding is. Frickin' Pudding... Fuse, I'm sorry dude. It's a bit tricky with a control pad that sticks.

Totally forgot this one - final boss
Spoiler
in Grandia III. Not sure if it was my level or what, but it kept killing off everybody. Just watch a video on youtube at least on the combat system and you can see how it can get really bad, really fast. You have to be about 3 steps ahead of the enemy, plotting out what to do. If you can think 5 steps ahead, congrats but it might not be enough. Final boss takes every strategic action you can think of from intercepting a devastating attack to defending for a turn so a character can run to safety. Also, it seems that this title is rarely seen in a GameStop and apparently it only came out in Japan and North America (according to wikipedia at least, I'm hoping it's wrong).

"How bad is it?" If you don't mind spoilers for the boss at least...well judge for yourself (this guy's probably around the same level I was, but he's still better prepared than the party I had): At the very top is the target's life bar. >>;

If you don't know how the combat system works, here's a brief break down (either a video of when the characters explain it better or GameFAQs would be more detailed). In the circle in the upper left-hand corner are several sections. The blue section is the waiting period before one can attack, the red section is the phase of preparing an attack, and the remaining section is sort of like a "cooling down" period before waiting to attack again. Even the lines separating the sections have purpose, but it's easier to notice that when watching a battle. (Plus it would take longer to explain since I haven't played in a while. GameFAQs or youtube would do better.)

Sorry that I rambled a bit.
Spoiler
took up all my patience two years back and I'd rather forget the fight's difficulty.

Hardest I think was alpha 152. K.O. YOU LOSE

For some reason now that I think about it a lot of the game bosses from my childhood were pretty easy because of obvious weakness/pattern in attacking - getting there was harder and more frustrating. I never liked the japanese style bullet curtain, but I played. I didn't like it because it gets you in this meta-game state - I didnt feel suspense I was concentrating on the bullet spaces and didnt pay attention to anything else.

From recent games, I agree with someone here who mentioned Henry on bitter from no more heroes. from the same game bad girl took me more tries than henry - i didnt realise you could throw the goons back at her.

Most bosses, after enough trial and error (or looking up a playthrough) tend to make sense after a while.

The only boss thus far to keep me on the edge of my seat and give me hand cramps is
Spoiler
from Jak II. JakI and JakIII were easy once you got the pattern, but that jewels for brains, DESPITE amounting to nothing more than a 'shoot and run like hell' strategy, was an EPIC pain in my ass. There's only so much running like a bitch you can do when the hole between you and him is FRACTION OF HIS BODY SIZE. I have not cussed and raged at a game in a while.

That's to pale in comparison to bosses in some of the Atlus games though. Who can be up to THOUSANDS of levels higher than you if you don't know how to power level properly (which I do, thus, I fail).

hahaha I think a "funniest game" thread would be all over the place. Jim would be king!

Anyway, I guess most 3D Ninja Gaiden fans aren't also NiGHTS fans. In terms of difficulty, damn near every boss in those games eclipses damn near every boss in this thread! But among them... Alma is the first boss I played against so many times I lost count. Then they go and squash your sense of accomplishment you got over her by pitting you against a harder, nigh-invincible version later.

Good times though.

So there's this bullet-hell game which got a US release about a month ago called Deathsmiles. It's made by Cave, who also did Mushihimesama (the game TRiPPY posted a video of at the start of the thread).
In some ways, it's pretty beginner friendly compared to hardcore shooters, you can pick the difficulty level for every stage and level 1 tends to be fairly breezy. Included on the disc is "Mega Black Label" version, in which you can select difficulty level 1, 2, 3, or 999. To fight the TRUE final boss, you must get through all 6 main stages, the two optional extra stages, and the final stage on level 999 WITHOUT TAKING A SINGLE HIT. GOOD. GRAVY. SUICIDE BULLETS EVERYWHERE.
Guys, that's a boss that borders insanity just to GET TO. Here's a video of all three last bosses though. The true final boss starts at 1:50. He doesn't look quite as hardcore at the final boss from Mushihimesama, but anyone who has the achievement beating him unlocks has my respect!

There is a slightly easier way to get to him - in the 1.1/arrange mode, (which lets you control your suicide-bullet-absorbing familiar), you just have to get to the regular last boss without continuing. But I that's not really worthy of discussing for this thread!
