I took Spanish for something like three and a half years and forgot just about ALL OF IT. Outside of basic vocab like "queso", "gato", and "pantalones" the only phrase I remember is "el mundo es un paƱuelo" which means "the world is a handkerchief" (or it's a small world).
I took Japanese for a year and loved it. I then studied it independently (read: spottily) on and off for about two years. I like to think I could say enough things to figure out BASIC ULTRA-SIMPLE CONVERSATIONS but my literacy level is about that of a first-grader. So I can make sense of untranslated manga aimed at little kids, which I think is a cool skill. I like to think I'll someday go to Japan for a long stretch of time, which would certainly boost my skills. It's tough learning a language without having people to speak it with...

However I have taken a strong interest in the Japanese language but that's only because I'm tired of reading subs for anime that hasn't been dubbed yet.
the story of my life!

I speak English and Japanese, some Russian, some Spanish, and bits of Mandarin, Korean, and Estonian. If I finish learning all those, I definitely want to learn Swedish and Hungarian then.

Oops, I bet I used the wrong noun case in my sentence. Oh MAN, and I see two words I spelled wrong.
You can correct my Russian, that's the only way I learn. And I have a long way to go yet. :)
(It was rude to use ŃŃ instead of вŃ?)

Estonian is fun... they have a billion vowels that are all pronounced a different way, like o, Ƶ, ƶ, oo, ƶƶ...

And I speak American English, but my writing... I do borrow a lot from British spellings. Makes more sense in some ways, to me. But English is a nonsensical language on the whole, so it's really not much help for my brain. 8D

SPEAKING it is very much a different story. I only know how to speak those basic key terms... not enough for even a two-line conversation.

I'm currently TK and I are trying to teach ourselves Hymnos. Yes. You Ar Tonelico fans out there know EXACTLY what I'm talking about. XD If you're not a fan of the game, then go here to see what I'm talking about.
Though, as far as real languages go, I want to try to out German, Japanese, and possibly some Chinese.
