I'm rather hoping this game features current gen style graphics; it'd be way cool to see the spinning sunflowers in full res, rather than seeing them again in pixellated form. Maybe it'd be an interesting contrast to have 16 bit music playing with modern visuals, but the music doesn't have to sound like it's coming out of a Genesis. We're loving the 'back to basic's approach, but I hope they don't feel the need to replicate an entire Genesis game here.. at least judging by the other concept arts this need not be a worry

Worried. Hopeful. Also cautiously optimistic.

Those fans complaining about his eyes being green, him having his homing attack, all that pointless bullshit, they need to really focus on what's important. And that is Sonic's run doesn't look anything remotely old school. It looks very slippery, very disconnected and doesn't make me think of the old days at all.
His eye colour, i don't care about. Homing attack? good for me, personaly. His character model looks nice so no complaints there. The level looks good, i'm happy. His running animation? Terrible.
It's like if they changed the way NiGHTS flies, it would ruin the fluid motion of flight. It just doesn't sit right seeing all those other old school Sonic's in the trailer running and then Sonic 4 comes in running like he's dancing on ice.
So. Sonic the Hedgehog 4. Who knew?

Though I wonder why they had to build up this hype so much JUST for that little tease.

As for the running animation, I don't think you can judge from the teaser - isolating sprites of walking/running characters always makes them look silly. Note how the oldschool Sonic sprites look pretty awkward in the video too. And you get less than a second of actual in-game running footage - unless you're analyzing THAT then I don't think you'll get a fair view.

His run does look odd, like it's too slow. I have a feeling he could easily go faster and slip back into his old infinity symbol run after that run animation.

I'm a bit upset that Sonic is the only playable character, though. Why can't we have Tails and Knuckles, too? Oh well. It still looks great. I haven't seen the video, yet, but I thought the graphics looked like...not 3-D. Which is fine, but they should definitely go all out with the graphics. I wonder if we get to see HD Death Egg? WOOT WOOT! Maybe a lil' Super Sonic? HYPER SONIC?! ULTRA SUPER MEGA UBER- -head explodes-

Why can't we have Tails and Knuckles, too?
Because having every joe bob and jimmy playable under the sun has been VERY overdone for the past 99 years. It's not very often there's just playable Sonic. It'll be a breath of fresh air. It's not like we dont have the other characters playable enough in every other game.
If SEGA concentrates on making a game that SONIC runs through they'll have more time to concentrate on -him- and not totaly derail into a million other characters that will take development time away from the main character.

Despite the animation for him running i'm still looking forward to it though. Don't want people getting that twisted. If anything, i was more annoyed with the fans complaining about his eyes and homing attacks and stuff. It just seems like a tiny little thing to be complaining about.

Wait till voice acting and cut scenes are possible added to this. People with *(#@! a storm.
Also I don't think adding some characters hurt anything as long as they all play the same. Back in the day, no one worried about Tails and Knuckles being playable since the levels were still almost the same with any of them. Just a few very minor differences. However, when you go from platforming through speedy levels, to fishing, then you my friend have gone too far.

My god the lag today...

To quote Gerald from Hey Arnold! - "You're a bold kid, Arnold. A real bold kid."
Not to diss Sonic Adventure 1 and 2, as they were both wicked-fun games in their own right, but the old-school platformers that made Sonic famous were.. well, they made him famous! What more needs saying? XD Sega's track record of dragging Sonic through so much crap brings a bit of skepticism, even to this return to the good ol' days. They've got a LOT to prove if this is the Sonic 4 to expect!
Of course, my inner nostalgic fangirl is going *FANSCREECHx9000*. XDD And the very ideya of the figure-8 dash? HOT DIGGITY. (They should make a sequel to Sonic CD, I say, but if this is a success, then maybe...?)
As for the animation? It's probably early models and footage, so I'm not terribly worried.
Yeeeeess... I have my niggling doubts, Sega, but you have my attention... ;3
EDIT: One point my sister brought up - the fact that it's downloadable caught her interest. She reckons it's a sign that they're not being blowhard-showboats about it, they honestly want everyone to to play it. Labor of love indeed? X3

Yes.
I don't really care about his running, but all that matters is a nice mix of speed, platforming, and Flow. This has all of the above.

BUT OH MEH GAWSH NEW SONIC FUN TIMES. I LOVE THE SIGN.
It's really exciting me. In that last clip of the sign, Eggman seemed to have his old outfit. I can't wait to see Eggy art.

I know that with PSN, you purchase the game, so it'll remain on your console forever, I assume it's the same with the 360. But the VC on the Wii seems to be that way, that you have to access it online.. though companies should obviously have a plan in mind for that dayWhat ticks me WAY off is that it's a download-only EPISODIC title. Unless they eventually release it on a disc, y'know, something PERMANENT that won't GO AWAY FOREVER once they shut down the network servers in a few years, I won't buy it.

One thing I will say about the green eyes is it can be seen as an unnecessary detail in character design, and Sonic may look better with the more simple black (if this game featured a model like the old Japanese artworks that might be really cool, and certainly less 'controversial'). I can understand people wanting to see Sonic look like how he did in those old games this one is now following up on. But dammit if fans aren't opinionated, and have their own ideas on Sonic's ideal look.

My only problem with it being download-only is that I cannot have a copy on my shelves to show off. And I like having a manual. Not such a huge deal though.
This is a good idea to encourage sales. I was reading an article earlier today about how this is a sign of how gaming companies are trying to combat used game sales. (Because if someone buys a used copy of a game, the company gets no money.) Also I'm sure this game will attract huge "casual" Sonic fans who would normally be satisfied with playing for 30 minutes and saying "that's enough Sonic for me!" and would sell the game if they could.
PS: Sonic has had green eyes for over a decade, and therefore over half of his existence. I'm used to them, even the Archie comics have been using his current design since SA1.
