I'm the kind of guy who reads way too many books at once.

I'm currently reading:
Holy Bible - King James Version (just the Protestant canon) - NOT BECAUSE I AM CHRISTIAN but because it is considered an important text
The Definitive Annotated Alice (Lewis Carrol's Alice books with ANNOTATIONS oh boy)

Books that have a sort of syllabus and are more WORK than reading:
The NLP Handbook
Prometheus Rising by Robert Anton Wilson
High Magic by Frater U.'.D.'.

The Peter and the Starcatchers saga- Ridley Pearson and Dave Barry. Pure. Epicness.

Woah, I just looked this up; I had no idea Dave Barry wrote a fiction book (although apparently he wrote several). I love his old newspaper columns, they crack me up like nothing else.

I'm reading A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man and Crime and Punishment for a summer reading assignment.

The Definitive Annotated Alice (Lewis Carrol's Alice books with ANNOTATIONS oh boy)

An excellent and very infomative book! I found my copy hidden behind a bookcase in a fun old bookstore. :)

As for my current litterary selections, I have:

Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand

Great Expectations by Charles Dickens

Gone With the Wind by Margaret Mitchell

All very good bokks, indeed.

Now I am reading two things for school...

"Animal Farm" by George Orwell
"The Road" by Cormac McCarthy

(also, I finished When the Wind Blows... amazing book. )

"Animal Farm" by George Orwell

I want to read that, I've heard from what my dad's told me that it's a pretty cool concept. I saw a cartoon version of the book, and I enjoyed that, but apparently it's awesome.

I'm reading Bleach #6 (I'm SO behind! ^^:) and Neon Genesis Evangelion (just finished #9). In terms of manga, anyways.

For school, we have to read Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card. I love that book so much. This will be the second time I've read it and I'm still getting the same thrill (even with all of the discussion question to answer!).

I heard that the cartoon was censored to reduce the impact of some of the political commentary, but I haven't seen it. The book is great, though.

Reading The Road by Cormac McCarthy for school? THAT IS QUITE LUCKY! It is a really fantastic book.

As for Animal Farm I haven't seen the movie but I cannot imagine it was censored too much since it was produced during the "red scare" and the book is pretty much a huge bashing of the Soviet Union.

I liked 1984 more, it's considerably darker and designed so that you internalize the psychology of oppression more than just saying "oh those wacky Russians! I'm glad WE are nothing like them".

We have to Ayn Rand's Anthem for school as well, and there's a pretty big social commentary in that too, correct?

I didn't see it so much as being condescending toward Russia as a whole, but rather "Josef Stalin: A Cautionary Tale." Having not read 1984, I can't comment, though.

Ayn Rand was very fond of social commentary, both obvious and discreet. I don't know about her other books, but Atlas Shrugged attacks the issues with Socialism in both ways.

On a more ontopic note, I have received a random free book titled Tiles and Tribulations, by Tamar Myers. No idea what it's about or if it's any good, but it's free and has words in it. I know what I'm reading tonight... I'll let you guys know if it's worth picking up.

I really need to get Englebaum. :)

Aw. D: Darn slow postal services!

I'm reading Podcasting for Dummies... (SERIOUSLY want to get a show up, guys. Honestly. >.>) and a really itneresting book called The Tipping Point. It's about social trends and how they get started and stuff, but it's neat because there's a lot of real-life examples. (Say, do any of you know the game Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon? Yeah. Whole chapter on that.)

Well, just finished Tiles and Tribulations. It was a pretty bad mystery novel. The characters are shallow, poorly developed, or both, the author does not understand proper use of red herrings, nor how to properly sprinkle clues. (who did it was a person with absolutely no participation till the end, whereupon everything after seemed like it was made up on the spot) There were way too many pointless plot threads that were obviously there just to fill in the book. (Oh no, I just saw my ex in a horse carriage! ALONE! I must go solve a murder now! WOOSH!)

And there were way too many 'adult' jokes. Bad ones, that weren't funny. And made by married people.

Though I must admit that I am biased towards mystery novels, mostly cuz I can solve who did it as soon as the murder happens. This did not happen this time, mainly cuz the murderer was only mentioned once, and NEVER given any character development till the end, where they suddenly become smart, insane, and a lover of poisonous tree frogs. Which were also only brought up in the last few pages of the book.

D minus.

Maximum Ride series

Pretty good series, IMO. BTW, did you read the manga version of the first book? (Or read the books that MR was based off of?)

Animal Farm

I just finished this. It's pretty interesting. Based (loosly, may I add!) on the Russian Revolution. It's intense.

In other news, I'm really liking The Road, and I'm near finished with The Hunger Games. But I'm gonna need some more books soon.
